The mate bond pull between Ayla and me was getting stronger by the day, and it took everything within me to resist her. I wanted to grab her, fuck her, and ruin her. There was no escaping that for her, as she had signed up for it when she pretended to be her sister.
I was protecting her, putting my dignity on the line, and she would have to pay for that too. As much as I wanted her to suffer more from the lack of sealing the mate bond, it was high time I burst my nut into her and watched for the chance of her conceiving the pup that would finally set me free. Tonight was that night.
The tall double oak doors of the hall opened at Calista’s and my arrival. My arm was wrapped around her as we walked into the hall. If that devil hadn’t taken this chance from me, then Calista would’ve been my actual bride.
Everyone turned their attention towards us, parting to create a path that led to the opening in the ceiling where beams of moonlight poured through. In their eyes, I could see how eager they all were to see the glistening mark on the back of the Gemini wolf.
No one must know that Ayla, my Luna Queen, wasn’t the Gemini wolf, especially my mother. She had a way of twisting things around and making it more complicated.
"Lycan King..." Calista suddenly called, her voice shaky as she stopped in her tracks.
My muscles tightened as I flicked my gaze at her. "Are you okay?"
She shook her head vigorously. "No. There is something you must know..." she said nervously.
"Let’s get you under the moonlight. You’ll tell me afterwards." I prompted her to continue walking, and she did, though hesitantly. There seemed to be something off about her, but I wasn’t about to find out what it was right now. I was eager to show the people what they wanted and get out of here.
As we neared the opening, she paused again, her breath coming out shakily, but before she could say anything, someone suddenly yelled from the other side of the hall.
"You stole my mate from me!" he yelled.
"I never stole her. She came to me willingly. You couldn’t take care of her, so she broke the mate bond and chose the best option for herself," another Alpha yelled.
Everyone’s attention was now on those two instead of Calista and me.
Before we all knew what was happening, the first one punched him hard in the face, and blood spurted out.
He used the back of his hand to wipe the blood away, a venomous look in his eyes, and in an instant, swung a powerful punch at the other man’s face. He lost consciousness immediately, dropping to the ground.
A loud gasp escaped Calista, and I turned to look at her just in time to see her collapsing into my arms.
"Calista!" I tapped her repeatedly, trying to wake her up, but she remained unconscious.
Some of the crowd’s attention was now on us. The robe almost slipped from her face, but I quickly adjusted it, looking around to make sure no one had seen her.
"I need to get the Queen to safety," I said out loud as I carried her bridal-style and walked out of the hall, making sure her face was well covered by the robe.
"What happened to her?" Ayla asked worriedly, shooting up from the bed the moment I walked into the bedroom with Calista.
She had fainted, but I didn’t tell Ayla that. A fraud like her didn’t deserve to hear anything from me.
Ignoring her, I laid Calista on the bed and removed the robe covering her, allowing her to breathe more freely. She had tried to tell me something was wrong as we approached the moonlight, but I had been too impatient to listen.
"The doctor will come in and check her any moment now. But before then, you have to change clothes back with her." I flicked my gaze backwards, stretching my neck to look at Ayla. When I didn’t see her making any attempt to strip yet, I growled, "Now!"
She flinched, her eyes widening. "Here?"
"A woman’s nakedness isn’t something I haven’t seen before." I paused for a second before growling again, "Now!"
My gaze lingered on her, my imagination running wild as I wondered how plump and soft her boobs would feel to the touch and against my mouth. I felt a tingle in my dick as I imagined her wet pussy tightening around my hard cock. A low groan escaped me when I caught myself having such thoughts, and I quickly returned my attention to Calista. I shall not see Ayla as anything more than a breeding tool. I shouldn’t be attracted to her.
I noticed that Calista’s eyes were already open, and I pushed off her immediately.
"You are awake," I murmured.
"Lycan King," she whispered as she slowly sat up. "What happened?"
She seemed really confused.
"A fight broke out, and you fainted. A doctor will be coming to see you now. Perhaps it could be the after-effects of the surgery that caused the fainting. Nonetheless, he’ll be coming to check you," I informed her.
"What?" Her eyes widened in what I interpreted as horror. She quickly replaced that look with a smile. "I mean, it’s nothing serious. I hate violence. That was probably why I got stressed out."
"You clearly weren’t feeling well even before the fight broke out," I pointed out.
She laughed awkwardly as she quickly jumped off the bed. "I am fine, Your Highness. I am great." She looked at Ayla, her gaze turning vicious. "Let’s quickly exchange clothes. I need to return to the ball before those I followed here leave me behind. I only came here to visit you and make sure you are okay, but you are still evil. There’s nothing much I can do for you anymore. Hurry up. Let’s go."
She marched towards Ayla, grabbed her hand, and dragged her into the bathroom with her.
A while later, a knock sounded on the door. Assuming it was the doctor, I called out, "Come in."
The door pushed open, and the Queen Mother strode inside, her heels clacking against the marble floor. At the same time, Calista and Ayla walked out of the bathroom.
Mother’s gaze followed them before settling on Ayla. "Calista. You fainted, but you look perfectly okay now. What happened?"
"Oh, I..." the real Calista started but quickly trailed off when realization hit her. Then she played it off with an awkward laugh. "My sister is such a fragile baby. She recounted how shocking it was for her to see someone drop dead in the middle of the ball."
"He isn’t dead. He just fainted." Mother’s gaze remained firm as she walked towards Ayla. From the look in her eyes, I knew she was about to ask Ayla to bare her back regardless, so she could see the mark beneath the moonlight herself.
I needed to do something to prevent her from asking.
"Oh, baby." I marched towards Ayla, wrapped my arm around her, and placed a kiss on her lips.
She froze, looking at me wide-eyed.
