The Little Merman in the Apocalypse 10

Su Luo’s hair was in disarray, and his cotton jacket was practically reduced to tatters scattered on the ground.

The boy’s arms were tightly bound by the vines, leaving bloody red marks on his pale skin.Full novel: The Cute Little Beauty is Always on the Bad Man’s Mind — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The irrational vines constricted him so tightly he could barely breathe, and his feeble struggles were in vain.

His damp eyelashes glistened with a layer of transparent tears, and his lips were wet and red.

He looked utterly pitiful.

The terrifying zombie dog bared its sharp fangs, as if ready to devour Su Luo alive.

In this perilous moment, the zombie dog, which had been gathering strength in its hind legs, suddenly halted its attack. Its tail drooped, as if frightened by something.

Su Luo stared in disbelief as the vines binding him also trembled, seemingly in fear of a more powerful monster…

Following the sound, the boy looked over to see a tall man walking against the light.

Tears blurred his vision, making it impossible to see the man’s face clearly for a moment.

The man walked with steady composure, holding a black dragon-patterned long knife.

He stepped over the severed vine branches, unaffected by the dirty ground.

With a swift motion, Pei Yue’s knife fell, and the twisted vines let out a piercing shriek. The man remained untouched by dust, exuding an air of nobility.

Under the absolute suppression of power, the vines had no room for resistance and fled desperately without a moment’s hesitation.

The zombie dog, overwhelmed by fear, began to retreat, but before it could escape, Pei Yue blocked its path.

The wails of the monster and the clash of blades merged into a scene of one-sided brutality.

The boy couldn’t even catch the stranger’s movements.

Sister Zhao was equally stunned.

The man’s dark eyes held an unfathomable depth, like a beautiful yet ruthless demon emerging from hell.

He effortlessly dispatched the two creatures that had nearly claimed Su Luo’s life.

Once Pei Yue severed the main stem of the vines, they lost their vitality. Instantly, the lush green leaves turned yellow and withered.

Su Luo fell from the air, caught by Sister Zhao.

The woman quickly changed him into clean clothes.

The misty moisture in the boy’s eyes hadn’t yet dissipated, and his voice was soft.

“Sister, it hurts…”

He looked so obedient that one couldn’t help but want to hold him and comfort him, not allowing him to suffer any grievance.

Sister Zhao didn’t mention the unspeakable things the vines had done to the boy. As she gently applied ointment, she said with some guilt, “It’s all my fault for not being able to protect you, otherwise they wouldn’t have bullied you.”

The boy’s eyes reddened as he comforted Sister Zhao. “It’s not your fault, Sister. You’re a good person, very kind to me. They’re the bad ones.”

Their exchange was so sweet that it left no room for others to interject.

“Ahem!”

Su Luo finally snapped back to reality, realizing he had forgotten his savior. He walked over to Pei Yue, his tone sincere. “Um, thank you…”

“My name is Pei.”

The boy blinked in confusion and then said again, “Thank you, Mr. Pei.”

The man wore a black sports jacket zipped to the top, his physique solid, and Su Luo only reached his shoulder.

Pei Yue wore a black and white baseball cap, the brim casting a shadow that conveniently concealed his unusual eye color.

The boy looked up, only able to glimpse the man’s well-defined jawline and unusually pale skin.

The man coughed quietly, his tall frame slightly hunched. The invincible aura he had moments ago suddenly vanished, leaving him inexplicably frail.

Su Luo didn’t overthink the man’s change, simply asking with concern, “Mr. Pei, are you hurt?”

The man, standing at a towering height of six foot three, was now coughing so much he couldn’t straighten up, his hand resting on the boy’s shoulder for support.

Su Luo, worried he might not stand steady, carefully helped him.

“Sister, let’s take Mr. Pei back with us.”

After all, he was his savior, and Su Luo couldn’t just leave him after he got injured.

Pei Yue was too close to the boy.

Sister Zhao found it bothersome and sighed silently. “…Alright.”

The man’s gaze was deep and penetrating as he looked at the red marks on the boy’s neck, his breath inexplicably sinister.

When Su Luo glanced over, Pei Yue’s eyes softened, and he coughed as if his lungs were about to give out.

Startling the boy, “I’ll see if there’s a pharmacy nearby and get you some medicine.”

But Pei Yue declined. “No need, it’s an old ailment that can’t be cured.”

The Base.

Cool white tones dominated the research facility.

Various complex electronic devices and intricate machinery were neatly arranged.

Beams of light from the ceiling illuminated every corner of the laboratory.

Yet they couldn’t dispel the pervasive silence in the air.

An Lan, dressed in a standard gray business suit, exuded a competent aura, though her expression was as cold as winter frost.

Her fingers tapped lightly on the tabletop, producing a sharp sound.

With an indescribable indifference, she exerted a heavy pressure that made everyone feel suffocated.

Her subordinates became anxious in her presence, not daring to speak more than necessary, fearing they might anger her.

This unexpected incident caught them off guard.

The zombies came quickly and dispersed just as fast, inexplicably ceasing their attack.

It was impossible to fathom their intentions.

Coincidentally, the little merman Su Luo went missing during the chaos.

It was unclear if there was any connection between the two.

“Dr. Qiao, do you have any thoughts?”

The man, exuding a faint scent of disinfectant, lowered his gaze, his eyes behind the glasses carrying a subtle menace.

His usually gentle face was devoid of a smile as he stood outside the thick glass tank.

He looked at the nest Su Luo had built with seaweed and peculiar little shells.

Ugly, not at all appealing.

The usually lively jellyfish and little dolphins were also listless, seemingly waiting for the boy to return and play with them.

A low, cold voice escaped the man’s thin lips. “Ms. An, you’re not suggesting that this zombie invasion was just to capture a not-so-bright little merman, are you?”

The woman neither confirmed nor denied it.

She always faced problems with a calm demeanor, issuing clear instructions.

“You have a week at most.”

No further explanation was needed, as Qiao Han understood her meaning and had witnessed her methods.

The man adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses with his slender fingers, his expression appearing gentle yet unapproachable.

“I’ll personally go and bring him back in one piece.”
