The Little Merman in the Apocalypse 12

The winter sky plunged into darkness in an instant.

Under the moonlight, the city appeared even more desolate and dilapidated, with the cold night wind howling past the windows.Full novel: The Cute Little Beauty is Always on the Bad Man’s Mind — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

From unknown corners came the eerie howls of zombies.

Su Luo and Pei Yue had gone out and returned.

He withdrew his earlier judgment that “Mr. Pei is a good person,” gripping the corner of Sister Zhao’s clothes a little tighter.

The boy’s lips, perhaps just pursed, looked incredibly soft.

Somehow, his clothes had gotten dirty, and he had changed into a fluffy white puffer jacket.

“Luoluo, are you hungry?”

Sister Zhao lowered her voice, asking in a volume only the two of them could hear.

The boy leaned close to her ear, wanting to pour out his grievances.

But as soon as he opened his mouth, he saw Pei Yue’s chiseled face showing a satisfied expression.

The man used his thumb to wipe away the moisture from the boy’s lips, also separating him from the woman.

The light from the chandelier was completely blocked.

The boy’s small body was enveloped in Pei Yue’s shadow.

The man’s deep, magnetic voice was unhurried, seemingly tinged with a teasing tone.

“Luoluo is already full, not hungry, right?”

In those ordinary words, there seemed to be an unusual deeper meaning.

Sister Zhao looked at the boy’s bewildered expression and gently touched his little belly, which was indeed full.

It seemed Pei Yue had already fed him.

The man’s flawless, handsome face was just a mask, and Su Luo had seen how malicious he could be at heart.

He bravely wanted to expose the man’s vile behavior, clenching his fist inside his sleeve.

“Sister, Mr. Pei is very bad, he…”

Like a child complaining to a parent after being wronged, but the unpleasant words were stuck in his throat, unable to come out.

Through the mask, the boy’s voice lost some clarity, instead carrying an indescribable allure.

Pei Yue lowered the brim of his hat, leisurely leaning back against the sofa, his long legs slightly bent beside Su Luo.

His posture was lazy, with a faint smile on his face.

“Oh, how am I bad?”

The momentum the boy had painstakingly built was easily dismantled by the man.

Pei Yue wasn’t afraid of his complaints, in fact, he seemed a bit expectant, encouraging him further.

“Tell your Sister Zhao what I did to upset you.”

Was it sauce or brew?

A strand of still-damp hair brushed past the boy’s lips.

His clenched fist tightened and then loosened, a thin mist gathering in his glassy eyes.

How infuriating!

Pei Yue was certain Su Luo wouldn’t be able to speak up.

But unexpectedly, the boy, like a small cannonball, mustered all his strength and charged at the man, using all his might to “fiercely” punch him in the abdomen, venting his long-held anger.

Unexpectedly.

“Ouch.”

The boy hadn’t anticipated that the man’s abdominal muscles would be as solid as iron, rebounding and causing his porcelain-white hand to slowly turn red.

Sister Zhao didn’t understand why Su Luo suddenly attacked Pei Yue.

“Silly boy, you even hurt your own hand.”

The man watched the boy, who had brought this upon himself, seemingly about to cry.

He quickly suppressed the curve of his lips, with a barely perceptible sigh, weakly coughing.

“Cough, cough, that punch really hurt me… hiss.”

The little pearls hanging at the corners of Su Luo’s eyes, about to fall, were drawn back again.

The boy stared incredulously at Pei Yue, who was clutching his abdomen.

After repeatedly confirming that the man was genuinely affected by the punch’s power,

his beautiful brows and eyes curved, forgetting the pain in his hand that hadn’t yet subsided.

“Serves you right, you deserve it.”

Pei Yue had long figured out the little guy’s nature; pretending to be in pain and coughing was a simple task for him.

The boy was no longer angry, with invisible pink bubbles popping above his head.

So easy to appease…

The researcher brought by Qi Yu was named Wang Wu, and he nervously reported his research findings.

But his voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz, audible only to those standing right in front of him.

Qi Yu impatiently glanced at him sideways.

“Tsk, speak up.”

Wang Wu swallowed, not daring to meet the gaze of this intimidating man.

“By modifying human cell genes, we can make the cells produce antiviral proteins, thus preventing viral infection.”

He paused after speaking, cautiously observing Qi Yu’s expression, having to look up at the taller man.

“And then?”

Wang Wu adjusted his old-fashioned black-rimmed glasses, speaking earnestly.

“This treatment method requires an in-depth understanding of the zombie virus genome and a safe, effective way to introduce the gene therapy agent into human cells.”

Qi Yu’s face darkened, his tone growing more impatient.

“So just say what you need.”

He had no patience for convoluted words he couldn’t understand.

Wang Wu, not daring to delay further, stated that he needed live test subjects, meaning normal people.

To Qi Yu, normal people equaled useless people.

A flash of ruthless light quickly passed through his eyes, his gaze lingering on Su Luo.

The man furrowed his brows.

“You look familiar, have we met before?”

The boy replied with a firm tone, “No!”

Su Luo was instinctively fearful of this unpredictable man, feeling flustered.

Qi Yu’s hawk-like black eyes moved away, no longer looking at him, mentally labeling the boy as a useless pretty vase.

Aside from the test subject issue, they also needed to assign people for night watch.

During the assignment,

Su Luo didn’t want Qi Yu to think he was a good-for-nothing who might be handed over to Wang Wu for experiments at any moment.

“I… I can keep watch too.”

Pei Yue raised an eyebrow silently, the timid little one had grown bolder.

But he didn’t stop him.

Sister Zhao disapproved, frowning, but before she could voice her opinion,

Qi Yu agreed without expression.

Once decided,

a burly male player chewing gum glanced at the boy’s delicate, fair face, blowing a whistle in amusement.

“Can you handle it with that small frame? Don’t get eaten by zombies without knowing it.”

But despite the joke, he still handed Su Luo a weapon for self-defense.

“Here, catch.”

The boy held the heavy assault rifle, much thicker than his palm, needing both hands to barely hold it steady.

Qi Yu’s brow twitched, unable to bear it, and he replaced it with a small handgun.

It wasn’t very powerful, just suitable for self-defense.

Sister Zhao patiently taught Su Luo.

She first explained the parts of the gun and their functions: “This is the sight, used for aiming at targets, and this lever is the trigger, used to fire bullets.”

Then,

Sister Zhao demonstrated how to properly hold the gun: “You need to grip the handle with both hands, lightly placing your finger on the trigger without exerting too much force, so you can aim steadily at the target.”

One explained earnestly, while the other listened, nodding occasionally, seemingly understanding.
