The next day was the weekend. Sang Yu didn’t go to the internet cafe, nor did she ask about Wang Yang. Today, she needed to buy some daily necessities, and there was no food left at home.
Pushing her cart around the supermarket, Sang Yu picked up some snacks and pasta, grabbing whatever caught her interest. Occasionally, she wondered if Huo Yan would like them.
“Well, look who’s here.”
While browsing, a sarcastic voice rang out. Sang Yu followed the sound and saw Pei Jing not far away, arms crossed, looking at her with an arrogant expression. Behind Pei Jing were several girls who often hung around Sang Yu like lackeys.
Sang Yu couldn’t be bothered to engage and prepared to ignore Pei Jing, planning to walk past her.
Still holding a grudge from that day, Pei Jing wasn’t about to let Sang Yu leave so easily. She stuck out her foot to block Sang Yu’s cart and said sarcastically:
“Oh, Sang Yu, you actually need to buy groceries yourself? I thought Huo Yan would just casually hand you tens of thousands, enough for you to eat, drink, and have fun. Isn’t that right?”
After Pei Jing finished speaking, her lackeys laughed along on cue. Their gazes held undisguised contempt for Sang Yu. The implication in Pei Jing’s words was clear—she was suggesting Sang Yu was being kept.
Sang Yu looked calmly at Pei Jing, a harmless smile on her face, yet it carried a faint, eerie quality.
Pei Jing’s arrogant expression froze, as if she had been transported back to that day in the small woods, gripped by the fear of Sang Yu choking her.
For a moment that day, she had genuinely believed Sang Yu might strangle her.
Shaking off the memory, Pei Jing’s eyes held a trace of fear as she looked at Sang Yu. But remembering they were in a supermarket where Sang Yu wouldn’t dare do anything, that fear was quickly suppressed.
“I heard our classmate Sang Yu even works part-time at an internet cafe. Don’t you think we should take care of our fellow student?”
“Jing Jing is right, we should definitely take good care of her.”
What kind of “care” that really meant was another matter entirely.
As the standoff continued, Sang Yu was already thinking about how to make Pei Jing suffer. Before Pei Jing could cause any trouble, Jiang Yi appeared with Shen Yanyan.
“Stop! What are you all doing?”
Jiang Yi frowned, glasses perched on his face, exuding a gentle yet stern demeanor. Beside him stood Shen Yanyan in a white dress, delicate and fragile like a dodder flower.
“Jiang Yi? Mind your own business!”
Pei Jing knew of Jiang Yi too. Faced with such a handsome guy, even someone like Pei Jing couldn’t help but soften her tone, a testament to Jiang Yi’s charm.
“If you continue like this, I’ll call the police.”
Jiang Yi raised his phone. Pei Jing gritted her teeth, shot Sang Yu an unwilling glare, the warning in her eyes unmistakable.
Just you wait!
In the end, Pei Jing left. Sang Yu also prepared to go. Shen Yanyan stepped forward: “Sister, are you heading back? Yi gege and I can walk you.”
“No need,” Sang Yu replied flatly, rejecting the offer. Just as Jiang Yi opened his mouth to speak, Shen Yanyan continued, this time with a hint of tears in her voice.
“Sister, are you still angry? Did I do something wrong? Tell me, and I’ll change.”
Sang Yu concealed the coldness in her eyes, turned around with a flawless smile, and said, “How could that be? I just worry about your health and don’t want you to tire yourself. If you insist on accompanying me, then let’s go.”
With that, she pushed her cart to checkout. Leaving the supermarket, she declined Jiang Yi’s help and walked ahead, paying no attention to the two behind her.
Go ahead and give it if you want, it’s not like she forced you anyway.
Jiang Yi watched the person walking ahead. Today, Sang Yu was wearing a white T-shirt with jeans, the T-shirt tucked into her pants, clearly outlining her curvaceous figure.
She wasn’t carrying much in her hands, and from his angle, he could just see a small part of her profile.
Her gentle, composed smile carried a hint of aloofness. In the past, wherever he appeared, Sang Yu’s gaze would always be fixed on him, filled with affection and shyness.
But now, it was as if she regarded him as a stranger, every gesture distant and indifferent.
This was something that had never happened before. The more Jiang Yi thought about it, the more something felt off.
In the past, he had genuinely looked down on her—Sang Yu was unremarkable, timid and awkward, always keeping her head down in his presence. Someone like that never really mattered to him.
But now that her gaze was gone, he felt unsettled instead.
