Shen Yanyan noticed Jiang Yi’s gaze lingering on Sang Yu, her eyes dimming slightly. Then, her brow furrowed as she suddenly stopped and clutched her chest, appearing so frail she might collapse at any moment.
“Brother Yi, it hurts…”
Jiang Yi’s attention snapped back instantly, a flicker of remorse in his eyes.
He had actually neglected Yan Yan because of Sang Yu just now.
Without further thought, he instinctively caught Shen Yanyan as she nearly collapsed to the ground.
“Yan Yan, is your heart bothering you again?”
“Brother Yi, it hurts so much… I feel awful.”
Now Jiang Yi could no longer dwell on the strange feeling he’d had earlier. He scooped Shen Yanyan up in his arms and commanded Sang Yu without room for argument:
“Sang Yu, come with me. Yan Yan needs a blood transfusion now!”
The sheer entitlement and imperiousness in his tone—though Sang Yu had heard it countless times in her past life—still made her marvel at his audacity.
Jiang Yi gave Sang Yu no chance to speak, pulling her into the car and heading to the hospital.
At the hospital, Shen Yanyan was rushed to the emergency room. Jiang Yi paced anxiously outside before pushing Sang Yu forward. “Come on, Yan Yan needs your blood now!”
Sang Yu avoided Jiang Yi’s grasp and stared coldly at him, tilting her head as she retorted, “I haven’t been feeling well lately. Can I skip the transfusion?”
“How can you be so selfish?”
As expected, Jiang Yi’s face darkened with anger, as if he couldn’t believe Sang Yu would say such a thing.
“Your sister’s life is in danger, and you’d refuse because you’re ‘uncomfortable’? When did you become so selfish and cold-hearted?”
See.
This was the man she had once loved in her past life.
So condescending. So entitled.
Anyone unaware might think she had committed some unforgivable crime.
Sang Yu lowered her head, her hair falling on either side to block Jiang Yi’s view—and causing him to miss the fleeting glint of darkness in her eyes.
Then, under Jiang Yi’s gaze, Sang Yu’s petite frame trembled slightly, and a barely audible sob escaped into the air.
“So my life doesn’t matter? All those times I gave Yan Yan my blood—do they just not count?”
Jiang Yi was speechless. Seeing Sang Yu like this, he felt an inexplicable pang of guilt. But thinking of Shen Yanyan suffering in the hospital room, he quickly hardened his heart.
“That’s not what I meant. Yan Yan’s life is at stake right now. After the transfusion, I’ll get you whatever you want to eat or drink. But Yan Yan needs to be saved now.”
“Sang Yu, you wouldn’t just abandon Yan Yan, would you?”
Sang Yu remained silent. Jiang Yi thought his words had moved her and tried to pull her toward the doctor for the transfusion.
In reality, Sang Yu was only calculating the odds of being caught if she attacked Jiang Yi in the hospital.
“Tch.”
As the two stood at an impasse, a low chuckle came from nearby—casual, laced with mockery.
Both turned toward the sound and saw Huo Yan leaning against the wall, his careless gaze radiating an air of unrivaled arrogance.
Jiang Yi wondered how much Huo Yan had overheard but said nothing, keeping his eyes on Sang Yu.
Huo Yan slid one hand into his pocket and ambled toward them with a lazy stride. Before anyone could react, he took Sang Yu’s wrist and pulled her straight out of the hospital.
Sang Yu didn’t utter a word. Around Huo Yan, she was always unusually docile, allowing him to lead her away without resistance.
After leaving the hospital, Huo Yan finally stopped.
Releasing Sang Yu’s hand, he turned to look at her. Her already fair skin appeared even paler now, taking on a somewhat wan complexion.
The only difference was her eyes, bright as stars, which held a hint of delight when looking at him.
Was she really this happy just to see him?
This discovery inexplicably lifted Huo Yan’s mood.
Sang Yu spoke softly, her eyes having been fixed solely on Huo Yan since his appearance. Tilting her head slightly upward, she met his gaze: “Yan Ge, what are you doing at the hospital?”
“Just passing by.”
“Oh.”
Sang Yu didn’t show whether she believed him or not, and Huo Yan offered no further explanation.
Huo Yan turned and walked forward, with Sang Yu obediently following behind him.
Eventually, the two stopped in front of a tattoo shop. Huo Yan glanced back at Sang Yu with a casual look before stepping into the shop.
Sang Yu widened her eyes, curiously examining the store.
The decor wasn’t particularly new, appearing somewhat dated. The sign above simply read “Tattoo Shop” in straightforward lettering. Though the storefront was small, it had everything one would expect.
“Yo! Yan Ge’s here.”
A guy wearing a tank top was the first to spot Huo Yan. Dragging along in flip-flops with a silver-black earring in his left ear, he appeared rather casual.
Then noticing Sang Yu behind Huo Yan, he whistled: “Hey, Yan Ge brought his girlfriend home with him.”
