The group crossed the street together beneath the warm glow of lantern light.

A painted wooden sign swung gently overhead.

“Oh!

I love this place.” Bunny nodded enthusiastically.

“She’s weird.” “She’s wonderful,” Zee corrected.

“She’s wonderfully weird.” “That’s fair.” Jax smiled slightly as they stepped inside.

The moment the door closed behind them, he felt it.

Magic.

Not active spells.

Not mana gathering.

Something softer.

Like enchantment itself had soaked permanently into the walls, shelves, and air.

Tiny charms floated lazily near the ceiling while glass trinkets shimmered beneath enchanted lanterns.

Everywhere he looked, objects pulsed faintly with magical energy.

Then his vision flickered.

SKILL ACTIVE – INSPECT Information exploded across his vision.

Silver Bracelet Minor Regeneration Effect Ring of Warmth Temperature Resistance Invisibility Brooch Limited Visual Concealment “…Whoa.” Jax wandered deeper into the shop immediately.

Nyxian folded her arms.

“There he goes.” “He really IS like a kid discovering magic,” Zee said softly.

“Technically,” Jax called back while examining a glowing necklace, “I AM a kid discovering magic.” He stopped in front of the invisibility brooch.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

He picked it up.

Nothing happened.

Jax frowned.

Then touched it again.

Still nothing.

A third tap— —and he vanished completely.

Bunny jumped.

“There he goes!” Jax blinked.

“…Wait, what?” Nyxian grinned.

“You disappeared.” Jax looked down at himself.

“…I can still see me.” “That’s because it’s YOUR invisibility,” Llandra said dryly.

Jax touched the brooch again.

Reappeared.

Touched it again.

Vanished.

Again.

Nyxian sighed dramatically.

“He’s absolutely going to abuse magic.” “Obviously,” Jax’s invisible voice replied.

A musical voice drifted from the back of the shop.

“Hello my wonderful customers” A fairy zipped into view.

Barely three feet tall.

Curly hair.

Bright eyes.

A dress covered in stitched magical runes.

Pure chaotic energy.

“Oh!

Zee!” she gasped dramatically.

“And Bunny!

My adorable girls!” Bunny laughed immediately while Zee smiled warmly.

The fairy suddenly froze midair.

Her eyes locked onto Jax— who was currently flickering in and out of visibility while examining enchanted jewelry.

“…And who,” she asked slowly, “is THIS handsome disaster?” Nyxian smirked immediately.

“Oh, this should be good.” Llandra stepped forward quickly.

“He’s not with us.” The fairy looked unconvinced instantly.

“Mmhm.” “No, really.” “Of course, dear.” Llandra looked physically pained.

Jax raised a hand.

“Question.” The fairy gasped dramatically.

“Oh!

I LOVE questions.” Jax pointed around the shop.

“How does enchantment work?” The fairy spun happily through the air.

“These items are enchanted with magic because I am an Enchantress~!” Jax blinked.

“…That answered almost nothing.” Nyxian snorted.

The fairy pointed proudly toward herself.

“I infuse magical effects into objects!

Rings!

Jewelry!

Accessories!

Trinkets!

Fashionable doom!” “Then why don’t people enchant weapons?” Jax asked.

“Oh, different process entirely.” She floated closer.

“Weapons and armor require transmutation.

Much harder.” Jax’s eyes sharpened slightly.

Interesting.

The fairy sighed dramatically.

“Imagine if I married Mister Grumpy Smith across the street and we combined our crafts into one beautiful magical child.” Nyxian burst out laughing.

“You mean Brannic?” “Oh absolutely not,” the fairy said instantly.

“That man has all the emotional warmth of a brick.” “He seemed nice enough.” “I invited him to the theater once.

He spent three hours glaring at performers.” Jax looked horrified.

“…Who doesn’t enjoy theater?” The fairy pointed at him triumphantly.

“SEE?

This one understands culture.” Another system notification appeared quietly.

NEW SKILL AVAILABLE ALCHEMIST SKILL – TRANSMUTATION Would you like to learn?

Jax blinked slowly.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

The system wasn’t just giving random abilities.

It was responding to things he encountered.

Like it was adapting around him.

Cataloging the world alongside him.

“…Yes,” he muttered.

CONFIRMED Something clicked quietly in the back of his mind.

Knowledge.

Instinct.

Possibility.

Jax immediately looked around the shop differently afterward.

Connections.

Materials.

Enchantments.

Potential combinations.

The system wasn’t teaching mastery.

It was giving him understanding.

That distinction felt important.

Very important.

He wandered back toward the invisibility brooch.

“So hypothetically,” he asked casually, “what could someone make using flame dragon materials?” The fairy gasped loudly.

“Oh, SO many things.” She started counting excitedly on tiny fingers.

“Flame resistance enchantments!

Self-heating armor!

Regeneration effects from heart essence!

Fire magic amplification!

Living weapons!” She floated closer dramatically.

“Dragon materials are priceless.” Then she tilted her head.

“…Young man, just because YOU can’t see yourself disappear doesn’t mean nobody else can.” Jax froze.

“…Wait.” The girls all stared at him.

“You’ve been invisible for almost thirty seconds,” Nyxian informed him.

Jax immediately touched the brooch again and reappeared.

“…I should probably apologize.” The fairy burst out laughing.

“Oh, he’s polite too.” Jax bowed slightly.

“You have an incredible shop,” he said sincerely.

“Seriously.

This place is amazing.” The fairy blinked.

Then smiled more genuinely.

“Well,” she said softly, “that’s lovely to hear.” Jax gestured around the room.

“Your craftsmanship’s incredible.” The fairy placed both tiny hands against her cheeks dramatically.

“Oh girls, he compliments artisans.” Nyxian grinned.

“He’s dangerously well-adjusted.” Bunny giggled.

Zee smiled warmly.

Llandra looked increasingly resigned to her fate.

As they started toward the door, the fairy called after them: “Snatch him up before someone else does!” Llandra nearly walked into the wall.

“We are NOT pursuing him!” “No time like the present, dear!” Outside, evening had settled fully over Solmere.

Lanterns glowed warmly along the roads while the smell of grilled meat and fresh bread drifted through the air.

Jax slowed slightly.

“…You know,” he admitted awkwardly, “today’s been kind of incredible.” The girls looked toward him.

Jax rubbed the back of his neck.

“I woke up in another world, fought a dragon, accidentally became rich, learned magic exists, and met all of you.” Nyxian smiled faintly.

“That DOES sound like a productive day.” Jax laughed softly.

Then his expression became more honest.

“…I don’t really know anybody else here.” The mood shifted slightly.

Not sad.

Just real.

“So,” Jax continued, “I was thinking maybe we grab dinner?” Bunny immediately grabbed his arm.

“Yes.” Nyxian smirked.

“Free food?

Absolutely.” Zee nodded softly.

“I’d like that.” Llandra hesitated briefly.

Then sighed.

“…Fine.” Nyxian elbowed her.

“You were saying yes regardless.” “I was evaluating.” “You were lonely for him.” Llandra looked ready to commit violence.

Jax laughed despite himself.

And as Bunny happily pulled him forward through the lantern-lit streets of Solmere— for the first time since arriving in this world— he didn’t feel alone anymore.
