8 – The White Rabbit Becomes a Green Rabbit
“Ahhh, why didn’t you bring me one too! The line at this place is always so long, I’ve been wanting to try it but haven’t had the chance yet!” Fu Yifei’s voice was full of complaint.
“Let’s go in.” Fu Chenxiu strode toward the entrance.
Rabbit followed, hopping along while holding her milk tea with both hands and sipping from it.
Shi Hai also followed them inside.
Fu Yifei: “…” So no one cared about him, right!
During dinner, Fu Yifei’s phone rang.
Pulling out his phone, he saw that it was a call from Master Fu.
“Hello, Grandpa.”
A deep, authoritative elderly male voice came from the other end: “Let your brother answer the phone.”
“Brother, Grandpa wants to talk to you.” Fu Yifei handed the phone over.
Fu Chenxiu pressed his lips together and took the phone. “Hello.”
“Is she still with you? You haven’t chased her away, have you?”
Knowing exactly who his grandfather was referring to, Fu Chenxiu lifted his gaze and glanced at the rabbit sitting across from him, who was holding her milk tea with both hands and drinking with complete satisfaction.
He responded with a noncommittal “Hmm.”
“Good. If I find out you’ve driven her away, just wait till I get back—I’ll teach you a lesson! Now give the phone back to your brother!”
Fu Chenxiu passed the phone back to Fu Yifei. Whatever Master Fu said next, Fu Yifei just nodded obediently.
“Don’t worry, Grandpa, I’ll definitely protect Sister-in-law!”
After hanging up, Fu Yifei said to Fu Chenxiu, “Grandpa said Dad needs a follow-up check tomorrow, so he’ll be back the day after tomorrow.”
Fu Chenxiu acknowledged with a sound of agreement.
Mu Mian picked up on something and asked curiously, “Aren’t you two from the same father?”
Otherwise, why would Fu Yifei say “my dad”?
“Oh! My brother and I are cousins! My dad is his dad’s younger brother.”
Mu Mian nodded in understanding.
“By the way, how can you use this rectangular thing to talk to Grandpa?” Mu Mian couldn’t contain her curiosity.
She had often seen them holding this rectangular object before.
Fu Yifei waved his phone. “You mean this?”
Mu Mian nodded.
Fu Yifei asked in disbelief, “Sister-in-law, have you never seen a phone before?”
Mu Mian shook her head obediently again.
What in the world was a phone?
Fu Yifei’s jaw dropped in shock. Just which mountain did Sister-in-law come down from?
Given the country’s development speed, it shouldn’t be possible to be completely disconnected from the internet!
“This thing lets you make calls, and you can even see people through video.”
“Wow! That’s amazing!” Rabbit took Fu Yifei’s phone and examined it with wide-eyed wonder.
“Is this very expensive?”
“Not at all, everyone has one. If you want one, Sister-in-law, I have an extra spare phone I can give you.”
Mu Mian’s rabbit ears perked up excitedly: “I want one!”
Just then, Fu Chenxiu stood up. Rabbit immediately put down the phone and looked at him, her big eyes seeming to ask: Where are you going, husband?
“I’m finished eating. I’m going back to the study first.” Fu Chenxiu walked out of the dining room.
After dinner, Fu Yifei brought out an unused phone of his, reset it, and gave it to Mu Mian.
He kindly saved his brother’s and his own numbers in it and taught her how to make calls.
“Tap this, then tap this, and you can make the call.”
Fu Yifei demonstrated by opening the contacts and tapping his own number.
His phone immediately lit up. “See, it’s connected now. Here you go, Sister-in-law.”
Rabbit excitedly took the phone as if she had received a marvelous new treasure.
She had a phone now too!”Sis-in-law…” Fu Yifei couldn’t contain his curiosity, “Which mountain did you actually come down from? Why don’t you even know what a mobile phone is? What exactly are you?”
He had always been curious about what his older brother’s legendary fiancée would be like.
Though he guessed she wouldn’t be an ordinary person, he never expected… she’d be like this.
“I’m not a person! I’m a rabbit!” Mu Mian answered with complete seriousness.
Fu Yifei: “…” If he didn’t know that his sis-in-law would never lie, he would have definitely called the mental hospital.
“Sis-in-law, do you know there’s a rule that creatures can’t become spirits after the founding of our nation?”
Mu Mian furrowed her brow, thoughtfully considering for three seconds: “But Rabbit became a spirit before the nation was founded!”
Fu Yifei: “…” Well, that rule certainly doesn’t apply to you then.
Mu Mian happily returned to her room with the phone, playing with it as she walked to the bedside.
Xiao Qiu immediately flew over and landed on her shoulder.
“Master, what is this?” Xiao Qiu asked curiously.
Though she had lived many more years than Mu Mian, she had always stayed near where Mu Mian slept, only flying further away occasionally to hunt for food.
“You don’t know either? This is a mobile phone! It’s amazing! You can use this to talk to people in other places!” Mu Mian proudly explained.
“Really?”
“Of course it’s true! Let me show you!”
Mu Mian picked up the phone while Xiao Qiu curiously stretched her bird neck closer.
Mu Mian opened the contacts, tapped on Fu Chenxiu’s number and dialed.
Seeing the call interface on the phone, Fu Yifei had said this meant the call was connected.
“Hello! Husband!”
However, no response came from the other end.
Rabbit frowned in confusion. Why wasn’t her husband speaking?
In the study, a phone ringtone suddenly sounded.
Fu Chenxiu looked at his phone, saw an unknown number calling, and hung up.
This was his private number that only a few people close to him knew. Unknown numbers were usually spam calls that he wouldn’t answer.
After Fu Chenxiu hung up, Mu Mian heard a gentle female voice: “Sorry, the subscriber you dialed cannot be answered at the moment…”
Unexpectedly, the person answering wasn’t her husband but a woman’s voice. Rabbit immediately jumped up anxiously from the bed.
Why was there another woman’s voice coming from her husband’s phone!
Was there another woman by her husband’s side?
Mu Mian suddenly felt she had transformed from a white rabbit into a green rabbit!
Forgetting even to wear her slippers, Mu Mian hurriedly left the room and went upstairs.
Though it was her first time going upstairs and she didn’t know which room was Fu Chenxiu’s study, her rabbit nose could smell her husband’s scent.
Hearing the door suddenly open, Fu Chenxiu slightly furrowed his brow and looked up to see Mu Mian marching in proudly with her rabbit ears standing tall.
“What’s wrong?” Fu Chenxiu asked with a puzzled frown.
After scanning the room and finding only Fu Chenxiu in the study, Mu Mian questioned him with the authority of the primary wife: “Where is that woman?”
Fu Chenxiu’s brow furrowed deeper, his handsome face filled with confusion.
“What woman?”
“I just called you, and the person who answered was clearly a woman!”
Fu Chenxiu, being clever, immediately understood.
“Was that call just now from you?”
Rabbit nodded.”I didn’t know that was your number. I didn’t answer it.”
“But there was clearly a woman’s voice speaking!”
