9 – The Rabbit Face is Dead
Meeting the girl’s slightly aggrieved gaze, he knew she had misunderstood something.
Fu Chenxiu let out an almost imperceptible sigh.
“Give me your phone.”
Mu Mian raised her hand and obediently passed over her phone.
Fu Chenxiu held his own phone in one large hand and Mu Mian’s in the other.
He dialed his own number from her phone.
After Mu Mian’s phone rang, he put it on speaker and hung up the call.
Then they heard the same familiar female voice coming from Mu Mian’s phone.
Fu Chenxiu lifted his gaze to meet hers. “This is just the phone’s notification sound. There aren’t any other women in my room.”
Rabbit was quite a clever rabbit, and after Fu Chenxiu’s demonstration, she realized what she had misunderstood.
The rabbit ears that had been proudly perked up just moments ago now drooped guiltily in an instant.
She hadn’t turned into a green rabbit, but because she had misunderstood her husband and felt both embarrassed and ashamed, she became a red rabbit instead.
Noticing Mu Mian’s ears flushed bright red with embarrassment, a faint smile hidden at the corner of his mouth, Fu Chenxiu spoke in a deep, serious tone: “Now you know you misunderstood me?”
Mu Mian nodded obediently in admission of her mistake.
Then she spoke in a pitiful voice: “But why didn’t husband answer my call…”
So it was because her husband had hung up the call that the female voice had played, which led to Rabbit’s misunderstanding.
“Because this is Yi Fei’s backup phone. I didn’t have this number saved, and I thought it was a spam call, so I didn’t answer it.”
Hearing Fu Chenxiu’s explanation, Mu Mian’s ears turned even redder: “Is that so…”
Seeing the girl’s rabbit ear tips red enough to drip blood, he leaned back against his chair, crossing his arms over his chest. “So you want me to answer every call? Then I’d receive countless calls from women every day.”
Hearing this, Rabbit’s ears perked up again instantly as she exclaimed excitedly: “That won’t do!”
Fu Chenxiu didn’t speak, just continued watching her with his arms crossed, observing her leisurely.
Rabbit hung her head low: “Rabbit was wrong.”
“Wrong about what?”
“Shouldn’t have misunderstood husband…”
The little rabbit didn’t realize she had been completely handled.
“Alright, go back to your room and rest.”
Mu Mian obediently left the study.
She had already walked out and was about to close the door when suddenly a rabbit head popped back in.
“Then husband must answer the phone from now on!”
“Mm.”
Only after getting his response did the rabbit head disappear, and the study door closed.
Fu Chenxiu shook his head lightly, an involuntary curve forming at the corner of his mouth.
Becoming aware of his own action, the smile on Fu Chenxiu’s lips faded, his eyes turning dark and profound.
After returning to her room, Xiao Qiu immediately flew over to ask what happened.
Thinking about the misunderstanding she had caused earlier, the redness on Mu Mian’s ear tips hadn’t completely faded yet.
This was so embarrassing for a rabbit.
Late at night, Mu Mian lay on her bed, her small hand swiping back and forth across the screen. After hesitating for a long time, she finally made the call.
Mu Mian pressed both her rabbit ears against the speaker.
Listening to the “beep… beep…” of the unanswered call, her little heart tightened with anxiety.
Over at Fu Chenxiu’s side, his phone rang. Seeing the number he had just saved on the caller ID, noted with a rabbit emoji.
He answered the call.
The man’s deep voice came through: “What’s wrong?”The man’s magnetic voice came through the phone, and Mu Mian pressed her rabbit ears tightly against the speaker. Her hearing was naturally sharper than ordinary people’s, and in this position, it felt as if the man’s voice was speaking directly into her rabbit ears.
Perhaps because it was late at night, his voice seemed deeper and more magnetic than usual, causing a certain rabbit’s ears to immediately perk up and turn bright red.
“N-n-n… nothing! Good night, husband!”
After saying this, Mu Mian frantically ended the call. Still unfamiliar with the device and flustered, she tapped the screen several times before finally hitting the end call button.
The little rabbit was too embarrassed to admit she just wanted to confirm whether her husband would actually answer her call.
On the other end, Fu Chenxiu could easily guess her thoughts when the girl quickly bid goodnight and hung up. He shook his head gently with a resigned smile, checked the time, and stood up to leave the study.
Having confirmed that Fu Chenxiu would answer her calls, Mu Mian drifted off to sleep with a sweet smile gracing her lips. She truly was an easily satisfied little rabbit!
The next morning, the maid came as usual to wake Mu Mian for breakfast.
When she came downstairs to the dining room, Fu Yifei noticed Mu Mian was still wearing the same dress she had arrived in yesterday.
“Sister-in-law, why are you still wearing that dress?” Fu Yifei couldn’t help but ask.
Mu Mian looked down at herself. “But this is the only dress I have…”
After she moved in, Shi Hai had arranged for clean undergarments and pajamas to be delivered.
“That won’t do! Grandpa is returning tomorrow! If sister-in-law doesn’t have proper clothes, Grandpa will think you’re mistreating her, brother!”
Fu Yifei said this while looking at Fu Chenxiu.
“Brother, you should take sister-in-law shopping for some clothes.”
Hearing this, Mu Mian immediately looked at Fu Chenxiu with hopeful eyes.
Since finding her husband in this lifetime, she hadn’t gone out with him yet!
“I have a meeting today. You take her,” Fu Chenxiu replied, as he did indeed have a scheduled meeting.
“I have a photoshoot today too! And! Brother, have you forgotten! I’m currently a popular male idol! If I go shopping at a mall with a girl and get spotted by fans, it’ll cause a sensation!”
Fu Yifei protested while slapping the table, expressing his dissatisfaction with his brother always forgetting his status.
“It’s okay, I can go by myself!” Mu Mian offered considerately.
She didn’t want to cause them any trouble.
Besides, it wasn’t like she had never gone out alone before – she had visited commercial streets and markets in the past. Modern shopping malls probably weren’t that different, right?
“That won’t do.” His sister-in-law had never even drunk milk tea before and only learned how to make phone calls yesterday – there was no way she could go shopping alone.
“I’ll arrange for a maid to accompany her,” Fu Chenxiu stated.
Mu Mian nodded obediently.
After breakfast, Fu Chenxiu left for the company with Shi Hai, while Fu Yifei also went out for his photoshoot.
Shortly after, a female maid approached Mu Mian.
“Madam, the master has arranged for me to accompany you shopping. Shall we head out now?”
Mu Mian nodded and left the villa with the maid.
They arrived at one of City A’s most upscale department stores.
Upon entering the mall, Mu Mian’s eyes widened in astonishment.The shopping areas now were completely different from before, as if all the commercial streets that used to span several blocks had been gathered into one massive building.
Mu Mian resembled a country rabbit entering the city for the first time.
The servant watched Mu Mian’s unsophisticated demeanor and couldn’t help but silently criticize.
Where did this suddenly-appearing fiancée of the young master come from? Why did she seem so utterly unacquainted with the ways of the world?
