Shen Lifeng stepped down from the bed and happened to see Wen Zhiyu’s less-than-pleasant expression.
He felt a brief surge of secret joy, but quickly restrained it.
Wen Zhiyu also finally got up, put on her shoes, and checked her clothes. After confirming that nothing inappropriate had happened after drinking, she quietly let out a sigh of relief.
Then she said sincerely, “Comrade Shen, I’m very sorry. Nothing happened last night. Let’s just treat it as if nothing occurred.”
Shen Lifeng was momentarily speechless.
Wen Zhiyu’s mood was a bit complicated, so she didn’t dwell on it. After a few steps outside, she ran into Xiao Jiang, who was holding a toothbrush.
Xiao Jiang pointed at the door behind Wen Zhiyu.
The door was still open. Shen Lifeng was sitting on the bed, holding a corner of the blanket, watching Wen Zhiyu’s actions—looking like a little abandoned wife.
Compared to him, Wen Zhiyu looked much more composed.
“Sister Wen, did you two sleep together last night?”
Xiao Jiang exclaimed in shock, though not entirely surprised.
She had always thought Sister Wen and Comrade Shen were a perfect match anyway.
Wen Zhiyu covered her mouth and dragged her back into her room.
“Nothing happened. I just went there to borrow toothpaste!”
Wen Zhiyu said seriously.
Xiao Jiang nodded like a chick pecking at rice. “Yes, yes, nothing happened!”
She understood. Although there was no longer a strict “hooliganism crime” like in earlier years, a man and a woman together would still cause gossip.
From Wen-jie’s attitude, she clearly didn’t want to be entangled in unnecessary trouble.
She understood everything!
Wen Zhiyu sighed helplessly. She said she understood, but it didn’t really seem like she did…
She felt she had definitely been misunderstood.
After Xiao Jiang left, Wen Zhiyu sat on the bed for a long while to calm herself.
Then there was a knock at the door. When she opened it, she saw Ruan Yue and Ruan Qingyang.
Ruan Yue was very excited, while Ruan Qingyang stood behind her.
Wen Zhiyu noticed that Ruan Qingyang seemed a little… shy?
“Zhizhi, come with us to town today!”
Ruan Yue said excitedly.
She grabbed Wen Zhiyu’s hand, “My brother and I haven’t had time to explore here yet. Let’s go together!”
Just then, Shen Lifeng walked out from next door and happened to see Ruan Qingyang’s gaze toward Wen Zhiyu.
It was familiar. He sometimes looked at Wen Zhiyu like that too—because he only had feelings for her, so the expression was very recognizable.
“Sorry, I need to go back to the hospital. I have some patients who need follow-ups after several days away,” Wen Zhiyu declined.
Ruan Yue still wanted to persuade her, but Ruan Qingyang stopped her.
“If Zhizhi is busy, then we’ll go together later and bring her some local specialties!”
Ruan Qingyang was indeed very considerate.
After Wen Zhiyu returned to her room, Ruan Yue and Ruan Qingyang also greeted Shen Lifeng.
Shen Lifeng had very sharp hearing, so even after they walked away, he could still hear their conversation.
Ruan Yue said, “I’m doing this for you! If you don’t hurry, you still think you can marry my Zhizhi? Dream on!”
The fragmented words drifted into Shen Lifeng’s ears on the wind. He stood at the doorway thinking for a long while.
If it was about becoming a son-in-law… maybe he should talk to his mother properly. It wasn’t impossible—if Zhiyu really needed a man to marry into her family.
He turned and went back into his room, sitting down calmly. He touched his abdomen.
Last night, Zhiyu seemed to like touching here the most—she kept touching it for over half an hour.
So she likes this.
Then he should train more.
Not only abs—other muscles too. Otherwise, she might like someone else’s.
As he thought about it, his mind filled with the image of last night: the soft, warm girl in his arms, so different from her usual cold, distant demeanor.
So soft…
A drop of sweat slowly slid down his ear. It seemed he could no longer escape his imagination.
Meanwhile, Wen Zhiyu truly went to see patients.
When she passed Shen Lifeng’s room, she paused briefly, then decided not to disturb him. Although he stayed here to protect her, he still had his own work.
As she left, Shen Lifeng’s door opened.
After walking a few steps, Wen Zhiyu suddenly felt like someone was watching her. She turned back instinctively, but saw nothing.
She frowned.
At noon, Shen’s mother brought her lunch.
“Auntie, I can just eat at the cafeteria. You don’t have to walk all this way every day—it’s too troublesome,” Wen Zhiyu said sincerely.
But Shen’s mother waved her hand.
“What trouble? There’s nothing good to eat here. I’ll make you more every day—you’ve gotten thinner since coming to the countryside!”
She looked her up and down as if she were her own child.
Wen Zhiyu could only laugh helplessly at the word “thinner.”
“Our A Feng has been at the hospital recently, right? If you want anything, just ask him to take you out, or have him ride a bicycle to town. Don’t be polite—just treat him like family.”
Wen Zhiyu nodded repeatedly.
She tried hard not to think about last night—or the dream.
Last night, it seemed she had accidentally touched something rather hard.
It was really… awkward.
She sighed quietly.
During the day, everything was normal—just routine medical issues.
After eating the lunch Shen’s mother brought, Wen Zhiyu felt even less like going to the cafeteria at night.
She couldn’t eat.
Thinking she might cook in her spatial storage, she didn’t go out.
But at the dorm entrance, Ruan Qingyang and Ruan Yue were waiting.
Seeing her, Ruan Yue rushed over.
“You’re finally back! My brother brought you food and also bought gifts!”
Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
Ruan Qingyang handed her a packed lunch box.
It was a good insulated container—the food inside was still warm.
“Zhizhi, my brother borrowed a stove in town to cook this. He’s really good at cooking and even likes doing housework!”
Ruan Yue kept praising him.
With her nonstop chatter, Ruan Qingyang just stood there, occasionally adding modestly, “It’s not that impressive, I just enjoy it.”
At that moment, Shen Lifeng came up the stairs from below and saw the two smiling brightly in front of Wen Zhiyu.
He paused, lowering his gaze to the meal he had brought from the cafeteria.
Cooking…
Should he learn too?
Otherwise, he’d really have no competitiveness.
Thinking this, aside from training his body, he silently added another goal.
Wen Zhiyu didn’t refuse their kindness. The Ruan siblings left from another direction, and she happened to see Shen Lifeng coming up.
Seeing the meal he was holding, she asked, “You haven’t eaten yet?”
Shen Lifeng lifted the food slightly.
“I’ve eaten. I heard you haven’t, so I brought this for you.”
Wen Zhiyu glanced at the other lunch box in her hand.
They overlapped.
