Wen Zhiyu still chose to take a car to the hospital.

But the moment she entered, she saw a nurse suddenly turn around and run off.

What was going on?

The nurse rushed to the head nurse.

“Head Nurse! Comrade Wen is here!”

The head nurse immediately took over the relay and sprinted to the director’s office without even stopping to catch her breath. She pushed the door open and found the hospital director pulling at his hair in frustration.

“Director! Comrade Wen is here!”

The worried director instantly shot to his feet. The gloom on his face disappeared, replaced entirely by excitement and anticipation.

His voice trembled slightly.

“Let’s go! Find her!”

By the time Wen Zhiyu arrived at the ward, she hadn’t even had a chance to say a word to Mother Shen before the director and head nurse practically burst through the door.

Wen Zhiyu turned around in surprise. Mother Shen looked over curiously as well.

“Comrade Wen!”

The director hurried to her side. Looking at Wen Zhiyu, he was so nervous that his face had turned unusually red from excitement.

Wen Zhiyu looked at him strangely.

“Is something wrong?”

The director chuckled awkwardly.

“Comrade Wen, I’ve already contacted Beijing regarding your plan to operate on Comrade Shen Lifeng. Whatever you need, just tell us. We’ll do everything we can to cooperate and help you complete the surgery!”

Wen Zhiyu had expected this and simply nodded.

“Alright.”

But the director didn’t leave. Instead, he stood there hesitantly, clearly wanting to say something else.

Wen Zhiyu looked at him.

“Is there something more?”

The director rubbed his hands together.

What he wanted to say was difficult to bring up, but after gritting his teeth, he finally spoke.

“Comrade Wen, we were wondering… have you considered finding a job?”

Wen Zhiyu immediately understood.

They wanted her to work at this hospital.

With the head nurse present, it was obvious the director already knew about the incident yesterday when she had been mistaken for Doctor Jiang.

And, of course, he had also heard about her reputation at Beijing First Hospital.

Seeing her remain silent, the director grew anxious.

The previous day, he had called Beijing and learned all about her.

Wen Zhiyu had been an outstanding student throughout her studies. During her internship at Beijing First Hospital, she had impressed everyone with her abilities, performing surgeries independently and excelling in both surgery and internal medicine. Patients treated by her spoke highly of her without exception.

At the time, Wen Zhiyu had become something of a legend in Beijing First Hospital. Even veteran doctors with decades of experience willingly acknowledged her superiority.

Someone with her talent would normally never appear in a remote place like theirs.

But now she was here.

And she was Shen Lifeng’s fiancée.

If Shen Lifeng truly recovered and Wen Zhiyu stayed behind as part of a military family posting, their chances of convincing her to remain would become much higher.

To the director, it felt like a pie had fallen straight from heaven.

Of course, he knew it was unlikely she would abandon the bright future waiting for her in Beijing.

But soldiers here were frequently injured, often severely. Too many had died because of inadequate medical conditions and the limited skills available locally.

He had witnessed countless tragedies and felt endless regret, but the reality was that conditions were what they were.

Nothing could be changed overnight.

“A full-time position probably isn’t possible. I’ve already promised my mentor that I’ll join his laboratory.”

Wen Zhiyu answered calmly.

The director’s heart sank.

But he couldn’t blame her.

He had simply been dreaming beyond reality.

“However, while I’m staying here, if you have any patients who need my help, you can come find me.”

The director’s heart immediately leaped again.

“Really?”

he asked excitedly.

Wen Zhiyu nodded.

“Of course.”

“Wonderful! Wonderful! Comrade Wen, your sense of responsibility is truly admirable!”

Although she had said so, he knew he couldn’t actually ask her to treat patients before Shen Lifeng woke up.

After asking about the hospital’s facilities, Wen Zhiyu let out a sigh.

The director and the others all inhaled sharply.

Was it impossible after all?

“Make the arrangements. I’ll perform the surgery today. If it’s successful, he’ll only need about two weeks of recovery before being discharged.”

Wen Zhiyu continued seriously.

The director immediately took the head nurse away to make preparations.

Not only that, he instructed every doctor in the hospital who had free time to come observe.

Among them was the recently arrived Doctor Jiang.

Doctor Jiang was only twenty-three years old and had returned after studying abroad.

She knew of Wen Zhiyu because of the patients Wen had treated.

At first she hadn’t paid much attention.

But after seeing how those patients’ wounds had been handled, she became extremely interested in Wen Zhiyu.

At noon, after finishing lunch, Wen Zhiyu was informed by the head nurse that everything was ready.

She scheduled the operation for three o’clock in the afternoon.

Before entering the operating room, she noticed an unusually large number of people undergoing sterilization.

Once inside, she realized just how many observers had gathered.

The director was among them.

He laughed awkwardly.

“Comrade Wen, these are all doctors from our hospital. They’ve heard about your skills and wanted to observe.”

Wen Zhiyu nodded.

She didn’t say much.

She understood.

In fact, she was happy to demonstrate.

If it helped them save more soldiers in the future, that would only be a good thing.

Seeing that she wasn’t upset, the director breathed a sigh of relief.

Doctor Jiang and Doctor Song watched her with shining eyes.

The instant Wen Zhiyu began the operation, the gentle aura she usually carried vanished completely.

The operating room became her battlefield.

And on that battlefield, she had only one goal:

To win.

Shen Lifeng’s external injuries had already been treated.

However, the bullet lodged near his heart had never been removed because the hospital simply lacked the capability.

In addition, Wen Zhiyu’s examination showed that he had suffered brain trauma.

That was the true reason he had remained unconscious for so long.

His other injuries were not life-threatening, so she planned to address them last.

Half an hour later, the bullet that none of the hospital’s doctors had dared touch was removed.

Wen Zhiyu skillfully closed the incision and turned her attention to Shen Lifeng’s head.

His hair had already been shaved before entering surgery, saving her an extra step.

A strange thought suddenly crossed her mind.

Hmm…

This man really is handsome.

Even with a shaved head, he’s handsome.

The thought lasted only a moment before she refocused entirely on his brain.

By now, some of the doctors who had reluctantly attended and felt the director’s arrangement was a waste of time had become completely stunned.

Was it really that simple?

They had held countless meetings and not one doctor had dared perform surgery on Shen Lifeng.

They had consulted specialists elsewhere, but under the limitations of their current facilities, no one had been willing to take the case.

As a result, Shen Lifeng had remained bedridden for so long that his condition had nearly become hopeless.

And now the problem had been solved so easily?

Everyone held their breath.

Wen Zhiyu’s performance had shattered their understanding of the limits of medical skill.

Just as she was preparing to continue, a middle-aged doctor spoke up.

“Comrade Wen, if you continue, can your body handle it?”

Although Wen Zhiyu had taken only thirty minutes, if any of them had attempted the procedure, it would have taken ten hours and still might not have been finished.

The longer the operation, the greater the physical and mental strain.

And now she was about to begin an even more delicate brain surgery.

Surely she should rest first and proceed with the utmost caution.

Wen Zhiyu looked at him strangely.

“Why wouldn’t I be able to handle it?”
