The next morning…
Jay’s fever had dropped, but she was still weak.
The doctor had given one clear instruction.
Complete bed rest.
Keifer stood beside the bed.
“You’re not leaving this room.”
Jay nodded obediently.
“Okay.”
He narrowed his eyes.
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
“I said okay.”
Satisfied, he left for an important meeting at Watson Holdings.
Thirty minutes later…
The maids were shocked.
“Ma’am!”
Jay smiled sheepishly.
“I was bored.”
She was in the kitchen, insisting on making soup herself.
“I’ll be fine.”
“Sir will be furious.”
“He won’t know.”
At the company…
Keifer was in the middle of a board meeting.
His phone vibrated.
A message from Felix.
Felix: Sir…
I think you should come home.
Keifer frowned.
Keifer: Why?
A photo arrived.
Jay, still pale from her fever, was standing in the kitchen stirring a pot while trying not to cough.
The wooden spoon nearly slipped from her hand.
Keifer’s face darkened instantly.
He stood up.
The directors looked at him in confusion.
“Sir?”
“The meeting is over.”
“But we’re discussing—”
“I said…”
His icy gaze swept across the room.
“…it’s over.”
No one dared object.
Fifteen minutes later…
The front door of the mansion slammed open.
Everyone froze.
The Devil had returned.
His footsteps echoed through the hall.
“Where is she?”
The head maid nervously pointed toward the kitchen.
Keifer walked in.
Jay had just finished pouring soup into a bowl.
She looked up.
“Oh…
you’re back early.”
He didn’t answer.
He walked over, took the bowl from her hands, and set it on the counter with a sharp clink.
“What exactly did I tell you?”
Jay looked down.
“To…
stay in bed.”
“And where are you?”
She mumbled,
“…The kitchen.”
His voice rose.
“The kitchen.”
The maids lowered their heads.
No one had ever heard him this angry over someone making soup.
“I leave for less than an hour, and you ignore the doctor’s orders?”
“I was only making—”
“I don’t care!”
The words echoed through the room.
Jay flinched.
“I wasn’t hungry for the food the chef made.”
“So you decided to cook with a 103-degree fever?”
“I felt a little better.”
“A little better?”
He stepped closer.
“You nearly fainted yesterday!”
His voice was firm, almost shaking with restrained emotion.
“What if you collapsed here?”
“What if you hit your head?”
“What if no one reached you in time?”
Jay stared at him.
She had never seen him lose his composure like this.
“I…”
“You what?”
“I didn’t think—”
“Exactly!”
“You didn’t think.”
Silence.
Jay lowered her head.
“…I’m sorry.”
Keifer took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.
Instead, he noticed her shivering.
She was still cold.
Still sick.
Still trying to act as though nothing was wrong.
His anger faltered.
Without another word…
He removed his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
She looked up in surprise.
“You never listen.”
His voice was quieter now.
“And every time you don’t…”
He exhaled slowly.
“…you make me worry.”
Jay blinked.
“You…
worried?”
He looked away immediately.
“I was angry.”
She smiled faintly.
“No.”
“You were scared.”
Keifer didn’t answer.
Instead, he gently picked her up in his arms.
“Keifer!”
“Quiet.”
“I can walk.”
“No.”
“The staff is watching!”
“I don’t care.”
The entire kitchen watched in stunned silence as the ruthless Devil carried his wife upstairs.
Felix leaned against the doorway, trying not to smile.
The head maid whispered,
“Sir looked terrifying…”
Felix chuckled softly.
“He wasn’t angry because she disobeyed him.”
He glanced upstairs.
“He was angry because he thought he might lose her.”
