The third day arrived with a heavy, suffocating stillness.

Sera stood beside the arched window of her room.

Outside, the academy courtyard looked completely ordinary.

Students walked in small groups.

Laughter echoed faintly in the distance.

Still, everyone knew this wasn’t an ordinary morning.

The calm mood was just hiding the real trouble.

It masked the storm gathering around them.

Inside the room, the silence was almost deafening.

Kairos leaned against the far wall, mute and tense.

Lucien sat on the edge of the unmade bed.

He was unusually quiet and lost in thought.

Outside in the hallway, heavy footsteps echoed.

Caelum and Riven were pacing back and forth.

Their steps reminded her she wasn’t alone.

The weight of the deadline pressed heavily upon them.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden door creaked open.

Caelum stepped into the room.

His expression was set in hard, rigid lines.

”Your father is here,” Caelum said directly.

”He’s waiting in the Headmaster’s office.” ”Alone.” Sera’s fingers tightened against the stone sill.

Her knuckles turned stark white.

A sudden chill rushed through her veins.

She refused to let fear show on her face.

Drawing a deep breath, she pulled her emotional mask tight.

She gave Caelum a brief, decisive nod.

”Let’s go.” The Headmaster’s office was bathed in dim, golden light.

King Voss stood near the massive mahogany desk.

He looked far more exhausted than ever before.

Deep hollows carved the space beneath his eyes.

When Sera entered, his gaze locked onto her.

”Seraphina,” he murmured softly.

Sera closed the door behind her with a soft click.

The male leads positioned themselves near the entrance.

She had no intention of facing her father alone.

”Why are you here?” Sera asked bluntly.

She offered no courteous greeting or formal bow.

King Voss gestured subtly toward the Headmaster.

The Headmaster quietly excused himself from the room.

Left alone with Sera and her companions, the King sighed.

His shoulders sagged under an invisible weight.

”The pressure from home has reached a breaking point,” he began.

”Isolde has formally involved the clan elders.” ”They claim your actions are dragging our name through the mud.” ”News of the academy incidents has already spread.” Sera crossed her arms tightly over her chest.

”So, you came all the way here to take me back?” ”I came here to protect you!” King Voss insisted.

Desperation bled into his tone.

”Duke Aldric is still willing to proceed.” ”He is fully aware of your…

condition.” ”Yet he is still agreeing to the marriage.” ”It is the safest option left for you, Seraphina.” Sera stepped closer, locking eyes with him.

”Safe for whom?” ”Safe for the House?” ”Safe for Isolde?” ”Or safe for me?” The King fell silent, unable to meet her gaze.

”You want to sell me off,” Sera stated coldly.

”Again, like you always planned to do.” King Voss’s expression contorted in pain and anger.

”I am not selling you off!

I am trying to—” ”You are weak,” Sera interrupted smoothly.

Her voice was sharp, clear, and absolute.

”Ever since Mother passed away, you yielded to Isolde.” ”You accept every single decision she makes.” ”Now you stand here pretending to ‘protect’ me.” ”Truth is, you just want to relieve your own pressure.” A suffocating silence descended upon the room.

Behind her, the male leads remained motionless.

King Voss took a long, ragged breath.

He looked smaller, humbled by the harsh truth.

”You don’t understand, Seraphina.” ”Isolde is capable of things you cannot fathom.” ”She will tear the entire House apart from inside.” ”I…

I can no longer control her.” Sera looked at him quietly.

Her anger dissolved into a cold, sharp clarity.

”You can’t control her,” Sera echoed softly.

”So your ultimate solution is for me to surrender.” ”You want me to marry a man who can ‘handle’ my power.” ”To you, I was never a daughter worth saving.” ”I was just a problem you needed to solve.” For the first time, King Voss lowered his head.

”I never wanted you to face this alone,” he muttered.

”Except I am facing it,” Sera replied firmly.

”You coming here won’t make me feel small again.” ”There’s no way I’m going back home.” ”And no way I’m marrying anyone Isolde picks out for me.” ”That is my final decision.” King Voss raised his eyes one last time.

Disappointment and sorrow mingled in his gaze.

”You are just like your mother,” he said quietly.

”Equally stubborn.” ”Equally isolated.” He turned slowly toward the heavy oak doors.

”Isolde will not stay quiet after this.” ”I came here to give you at least that much warning.” With those words, he walked out into the long hallway.

For several seconds, no one in the room breathed.

Lucien finally shattered the heavy quiet.

He let out a long, dramatic exhale.

”Okay…

wow.” ”That was significantly heavier than I expected.” ”I almost forgot how to make a joke back there.” Kairos stepped closer to Sera.

”Are you alright?” Sera drew a steadying breath and nodded.

”Yes.

Everything is clear now.” Caelum stepped forward, eyes narrowed.

”He exposed his vulnerability.

Isolde is pushing him hard.” ”And I gave him my answer just as clearly,” Sera stated.

”He will go straight back to Isolde.” Riven looked out at the setting sun.

”Malric arrives tomorrow.” ”The pressure is about to double from both sides.” Sera looked down at her hands.

A faint, golden warmth stirred gently beneath her skin.

Followed closely by a cool, grey wave of energy.

She embraced the sensation, anchoring her soul.

”I’m ready,” she murmured softly.

By late afternoon, academy life resumed outside.

Inside Sera’s room, the atmosphere remained coiled tight.

Riven stood near the window sill, silent as a shadow.

Caelum was hunched over studying a detailed map.

Kairos stood guard near the door.

Lucien sat on the edge of the bed spinning a dagger.

Suddenly, a soft knock echoed against the door.

Instantly, everyone went on high alert.

Kairos cautiously pulled the door open a few inches.

A young academy servant stood in the hallway with a tray.

On it rested a pristine, jet-black envelope sealed with wax.

”For Miss Seraphina,” the servant said briskly.

He handed the letter and vanished down the corridor.

Kairos handed the letter to Sera.

She broke the dark seal and pulled out a parchment.

Inside were only three words written in sharp ink: ”Tomorrow morning.

I am coming.

— Malric” It was quick, clear, and scary.

Lucien leaned over her shoulder and whistled softly.

”Well, straight to the point.

No poetic nonsense.” Caelum took the note, his brow furrowing.

”Our three-day window has officially run out.” ”The true game begins tomorrow.” Sera reached into her pocket, touching the cold metal key.

The key her mother had left behind.

A wave of realization washed over her.

An hour ago, she stood tall against her own father with zero hesitation.

Yet now, holding this paper, a shudder ran down her spine.

It was at the mere mention of Duke Malric’s name.

Two entirely different kinds of fear, she realized.

One is a conflict I can fight and resolve.

The other is a dark, unpredictable monster.

Deep within her chest, the golden light flared once more.

Her dormant power acknowledged the shift within her soul.

Riven turned away from the window and met her gaze.

”We will be ready too.” Outside, the last rays of sun dipped below the horizon.

Painting the evening sky in shades of crimson.

The last day of safety was officially coming to an end.

Sera had stood her ground and delivered a clear “no” to her father.

Unbroken.

Unbending.

Ready for the impending storm.
