Openly photoshopping a ghost in a horror game, these players really had guts.
“All right, enough already,” Qi Yu rubbed his temples helplessly. “Let’s not waste time here. They’ve already opened two rooms, we’d better hurry.”
As a team leader, Wang Yicheng wasn’t half bad. He’d shared a few practical tips that weren’t too private, making their room-clearing process faster and safer.
Maybe this dungeon’s drop rate was unusually high, because after opening just two rooms, someone had already found another item.
It looked strangely familiar, a stethoscope, almost identical to the one Tang Yu had obtained earlier, except this one was cracked and nearly falling apart.
Normally, a stethoscope in that condition meant it had a limited number of uses, two, maybe three at most, before breaking.
But so what?
It was still an item! In a game like this, even clearing multiple dungeons might not guarantee you a single usable tool.
The player who picked it up nearly burst out laughing, quickly tucking it safely into their backpack.
The room was small and crowded, so there was no way to hide the discovery. Within minutes, the entire group knew about it, the news spreading like wildfire.
Even without joining their chatter, Qi Yu overheard enough to piece things together.
As expected, the stethoscope’s effect was similar to Tang Yu’s, except the new one could only be used twice, while Tang Yu’s had no usage limit at all.
That alone showed just how outrageously lucky Tang Yu was. But instead of being content, the man was already itching for more, vowing to snatch every future item he came across and become the undisputed “Item King” of the dungeon.
Qi Yu had already guessed that about him, but seeing it firsthand still gave him a headache. That desperate need to one-up everyone reminded him of his chubby little cousin, who once wanted to win the title of “Biggest Appetite” in kindergarten, ate until he puked, and ended up in the hospital.
“Which rooms are still unopened?” Tang Yu asked seriously, flipping open his notebook,“Count them up. We’ll go through them one by one. But before opening any door, check for signs of danger,if it looks suspicious, skip it.”
“Our main goal is to gather as many items as possible and tag along with other players to clear the story safely. If we encounter a troublesome NPC, we’ll immediately send our comrade Qi Yu to negotiate.”
“If you can talk your way out of it, talk. If not,run like hell.”
“Everyone got that?”
Qi Yu: “…”
Got what, exactly? This whole plan sounded anything but proper. Had he made a mistake joining their team?
“You guys… actually clear dungeons like this?” he asked incredulously.
“Of course!” Qi Wenyu chimed in, eyes shining. “Tang-ge’s amazing! Every team he’s ever led ended up rich with rewards. Everyone secretly calls him ‘Little God of Fortune.’”
Expressionless, Qi Yu replied flatly, “Let me remind you, you’ve only ever cleared one dungeon and that was with me. You don’t get to talk. Shut up.”
Tang Yu quickly tried to smooth things over. “It’s not entirely wrong. My past dungeon strategies were… basically the same, except I’d remove the ‘negotiation’ part and skip straight to running.”
He actually looked thoughtful for a moment, “Honestly, that saves time. Should we stick to the old plan?”
Stick to what plan, strapping firecrackers to their legs and sprinting away at the first sign of a ghost?
They might not mind losing face, but Qi Yu wasn’t about to be chased breathless by some ghoul.
He gave the two of them a silent look, then led the group down the corridor toward the unexplored end of the hallway.
“Let’s open this one first.”
The old, peeling wooden door was tucked away behind a corner, nearly invisible. Both its material and its position screamed “unremarkable.”
Yet compared to other doors, whose plaques had long since peeled and faded, this one was strangely pristine, as if someone had recently wiped it clean. The nameplate gleamed, unnaturally new.
The kind of newness that made your skin crawl.
No one wanted to go in there. But they had to.
Because written neatly on the plaque were two words,
[Records Room]
Recalling their main objective, to uncover the hidden truth of the hospital, there was no place more valuable than this.
No other room could possibly hold more direct information.
Which meant they had no choice but to enter.
“Nice find,” Tang Yu said after staring at the door for three seconds. He turned around, giving Qi Yu a big thumbs-up.
Just when Qi Yu thought he was about to see Tang Yu demonstrate some professional door-opening technique from his “experienced player” days, Tang Yu, who was absolutely shameless despite his boyish face, cleared his throat and suddenly raised his voice in a startled yet excited tone:
“Oh my god! Someone come quick! Captain Wang! I found something amazing!”
Qi Yu: “…”
Are you kidding me?!
Even after Wang Yicheng and the others came running over, Qi Yu still hadn’t recovered from his shock. Those two words echoed in his mind, looping endlessly.
He truly hadn’t expected Tang Yu to pull such a ridiculous stunt. Where was that so-called “veteran’s wisdom” now? What was the point of sneaking past other teams just to get here first if they were going to call everyone over anyway?
He was furious.
“Don’t be mad,” Tang Yu said, patting him on the shoulder like coaxing a child. “How about this, let Captain Wang check it first. If it’s safe, you can be the first to open the door. Very heroic, very cool, right?”
Wang Yicheng turned around with a broad smile. “Yes, exactly! New players need both courage and caution. Since your team found the room first, if you want to go in, any item you find inside will be yours. How about that?”
Items, huh?
Under everyone’s expectant gaze, Qi Yu smiled innocently. “No, thank you, Captain. I’m… easily scared. I’ll pass.”
A wave of “rookie’s so dumb” expressions swept through the crowd. To them, risking a little danger for a guaranteed item was always worth it. Several players even volunteered to go first, eager to snatch whatever was inside.
Qi Yu, Tang Yu, and Qi Wenyu shrank obediently to the back, looking even more cowardly than the newbies.
“Hey,” Tang Yu nudged Qi Yu with his elbow, whispering, “why didn’t you agree? What if there really was an item inside? You’d miss out big time.”
“Then why didn’t you go?” Qi Yu shot him a fake smile.
Tang Yu was also one of the discoverers of the Records Room. If he’d wanted to, Wang Yicheng would’ve gladly let him open it but instead, Tang Yu stayed right where he was, wide-eyed and trembling, clearly playing the “scared baby” card.
Compared to Qi Yu, his acting was masterful.
The two exchanged a glance, rolled their eyes at each other, and said nothing more.
Both of them had sharp instincts. The moment they got close to the door, they’d felt a faint chill, an unspoken warning that something about this room wasn’t right.
Best not to enter rashly. But since they couldn’t avoid it entirely, staying behind to observe was the safer option.
If something happened to the first few players, at least two clear-headed ones would remain to pick up the pieces.
Qi Wenyu, who hadn’t sensed anything, noticed their cautious behavior and immediately crouched obediently behind them, deciding to follow their lead.
Meanwhile, the players up front were sweating with excitement, hearts pounding as they worked to force the door open, completely unaware that, just a few dozen meters away, the doctor ghost who should’ve still been hanging from the ceiling had quietly peeked out from behind the doorframe.
Its pale face tilted curiously, eyes wide with admiration.
Wow… these players are brave! They’re actually breaking into the boss’s study! Not afraid of dying at all, huh?
Shaking its head in disbelief, the doctor ghost quickly ducked back inside and pulled out its phone to type.
“Reporting to the boss: the players are breaking into your study.”
“At their current pace, they’ll breach the door in thirty seconds. Should I stand guard to block their escape?”
The message vanished into the void, no reply coming. The ghost was used to that by now. It calmly pocketed the phone and went back to spying from the doorframe.
On the players’ side, progress was smooth. With one final shove, the door creaked open.
What they saw inside were several towering iron shelves, crammed with files and documents, so tightly packed they seemed to merge together. Rows upon rows of folders and books filled every inch of space, clean, orderly, and dust-free.
It was nothing like the cluttered rooms they’d explored before.
The first player tiptoed inside, grabbed a book from the nearest shelf, and bolted back out as if chased by fire.
Then, a notification appeared before everyone’s eyes
[Congratulations, players, you’ve discovered an important area: The Sealed Records Room.]
[Tip: Each player may only take one document. Please exit promptly after collecting it, or you will anger the owner of this place and trigger severe consequences.]
The group fell silent.
Only one document?
There were so many files, most without titles, what was the point of picking one blindly? What if they all chose useless ones?
Cursing the damned game under their breath, the players could only obey, lining up like schoolchildren waiting for homework books, each taking one folder and leaving.
Qi Yu followed the flow, entering quietly. The players ahead seemed to have found nothing valuable, their expressions disappointed.
He thought for a moment, then drifted toward the farthest shelf, peering around cautiously. Seeing no traps or movement, he advanced slowly.
And there it was, his eyes lit up.
A small booklet, the title barely legible but clearly containing the words “Hospital History.”
Found it.
He stretched up on tiptoe, reaching for the top shelf but before his fingers could touch the spine, two cold hands suddenly wrapped around his waist.
He was pulled firmly backward into a chest that carried a faint, clean scent of crushed herbs.
A low, gritted voice murmured right against his ear
“Missed me, you little brat?”

The author has something to say
Tang Yu: I have tried it, Qi Yu is a very good friend, I must take him away!
Qi Yu: It seems quite reliable, you can give it a try.
Xie Shao: 🙂 If you have the guts, try it!]
