Liu Family.

Liu Yancheng arranged for Su Xingnuo to start working at Liu Group.

Su Xingnuo thanked him, just as her phone rang.

The screen displayed the name “Xie Zhi,” accompanied by vibrations.

The phone rang for a long time before Su Xingnuo answered.

On the other end, Xie Zhi’s impatient voice came through:

“Su Xingnuo, why are you just answering now? We have distinguished guests at home and want to eat the Wagyu you make. Whatever you’re doing, be home in half an hour.”

Before Su Xingnuo could respond, she hung up.

Holding the Bentley keys, Su Xingnuo walked out.

She had learned cooking to make dishes for Xie Ran, but after her mother-in-law and sister-in-law moved in, the family naturally treated her as a free cook.

And now they wanted her back home to continue cooking—impossible.

Su Xingnuo slowed her pace, glanced at the time, and turned to Liu Yancheng.

“Brother, let’s visit our shopping mall. I want to buy a few things.”

She hadn’t even bought gifts for her family yet.

“All right.”

Liu Yancheng immediately arranged a car, and Su Xingnuo chose the nearest Liu family commercial district.

She changed into a red long dress and a black netted hat with a wide brim that nearly hid her delicate face.

Once outside the car, she silenced her phone, walking beside Liu Yancheng with two bodyguards behind.

Liu Yancheng was usually cold, but when speaking to Su Xingnuo, a softness appeared.

“The time is tight, and we can’t clear the area. Let’s go to the fifth floor.”

The fifth floor of the mall was for luxury goods, quiet and elegant.

Su Xingnuo watched Liu Yancheng politely hold the elevator doors for her.

Which woman will eventually capture this brother’s heart?

On the fifth floor, Su Xingnuo took the lead, browsing the men’s section and choosing two ties and a pair of cufflinks.

At checkout, Liu Yancheng pulled out his card, but Su Xingnuo pushed it back.

“Use mine,” she insisted.

“Since we’re shopping together, of course, I should pay,” Liu Yancheng said.

Su Xingnuo nodded but insisted. These were gifts for their father; letting him pay wouldn’t make sense.

“I know you care, but please let me do something for you too, okay?”

Liu Yancheng’s expression remained serious, but his eyes softened.

“All right.”

The bodyguards were stunned—they had never heard Liu talk like this.

This Miss Su—no, young lady—is truly favored. Not like that adopted daughter who grew up in the house for over a decade.

Liu Yancheng looked like he wanted to pluck stars from the sky to give her.

After paying, Su Xingnuo bought a classic, understated-colored handbag. She handed it to the bodyguards before finally taking out her phone.

It had been flooded with calls from Xie Zhi, and a few from Xie Ran, plus messages from Xie Zhi:

[Su Xingnuo, it’s been half an hour! Why aren’t you back yet?]

[You’ve been away for days. Today, I only asked you to make a meal. You’re giving attitude!]

[Answer your phone! If you don’t come back, I’ll smash your room.]

[You’re dead! Tomorrow, I’ll have my brother divorce you. You’ll be out of the house. Cry all you want—you won’t enter the Xie family again!]

Just reading them, Su Xingnuo could feel Xie Zhi’s fury.

It made sense—a woman who had worked tirelessly at home for three years, never defying her, was now treated like air. Of course she was angry.

She also saw messages from Xie Ran:

[Su Xingnuo, why aren’t you answering? Even if you don’t want to come back, at least say something. We’ve been waiting over an hour.]

[I know you’re angry, but don’t vent it on my sister. Talk to her properly—she’ll understand.]

Su Xingnuo snorted. “Understand?”

If Xie Zhi understood anyone, the Earth would be rotating backward.

Perhaps Xie Zhi could understand others, but Su Xingnuo had never felt it once.

She recalled always cooking at home. Once, after drinking soup, she became dizzy and vomited.

She was allergic to crab roe, but luckily she had allergy medicine.

She confronted Xie Zhi: why add crab roe to the soup?

Xie Zhi said lightly,

“I wanted it, didn’t I? Do I need to report to you? Don’t forget your place in this house.”

Su Xingnuo was sick for three days, yet was accused of faking illness to avoid work.

That was when she first considered divorce.

But thinking of Xie Ran risking his life to save her, she suppressed the thought.

She recalled the fire at the resort—building materials were mostly foam panels or wood, so once it caught fire, it was uncontrollable.

It was nighttime; many people perished in their sleep.

She was only alerted by a call from a friend abroad and ran outside.

Even with a wet towel over her mouth, the smoke burned her lungs.

She gradually collapsed, just as a pair of leather shoes appeared in front of her. She was carried out.

Before losing consciousness, she heard someone call,

“Mr. Xie.”

…

“Sister?”

Su Xingnuo came back to herself. Liu Yancheng stared at her worriedly.

“Sister, why are you frowning at your phone?”

She was deep in thought.

Liu Yancheng’s heart raced, though he maintained a calm exterior.

Su Xingnuo glanced at her phone and replied to Xie Ran:

[Did I say I was coming back? Xie Zhi hung up without asking if I had time. I am not the family’s 24/7 nanny.]

After sending the message, she put away her phone and followed Liu Yancheng.

Suddenly, a rush of footsteps approached.

The bodyguards immediately blocked Su Xingnuo and Liu Yancheng.

Leading the crowd were several people resembling reporters, with a swarm of people behind them holding phones, snapping photos.

“Wow! This must be the Liu family’s eldest son—what a figure!”

“That’s the Liu family’s recently found daughter next to him?”

“Imagine being ordinary for twenty years and suddenly finding out you’re a tycoon’s daughter. Only in novels!”

“If it were me, I’d be overjoyed even in my dreams…”

“Yeah, but this is reality for her.”

Hearing them, Su Xingnuo lowered her hat, keeping her head down under the bodyguards’ protection.

The reporters followed, taking photos relentlessly. When the group disappeared, they checked their shots—none captured her face.

Still, even the silhouette and figure would earn them well.

Su Xingnuo got in the car and finally breathed easy. Her face wasn’t captured, but Liu Yancheng surely was.

She checked her phone again—their images had already hit the front page.

Su Xingnuo frowned. Since when was she a slum girl? These reporters had quite the imagination.

Liu Yancheng noticed her displeasure and reassured her,

“That’s just how journalists are. If you dislike it, I can contact them to take it down.”

Su Xingnuo was about to agree, but the comments were already flooding in.

Some were casual onlookers; some were less friendly.
