Late at night.
Yan Jin tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
Thinking it over carefully, she had treated Yue Feiyao like that. Considering the female protagonist’s vindictive personality, could she really have left so quietly? Yan Jin felt that it was somewhat unbelievable.
“Awoo…”
At that moment, waves of wolf howls echoed outside the courtyard.
“What is going on? Wolves?” Yan Jin sat up immediately, completely awake.
“Sister, I hear wolves howling.”
Before Bai Ruozhu could finish speaking, hurried knocking sounded from outside.
“Boss, a pack of mutated wolves has appeared outside. They have been staring at our courtyard,” Yu Chen called anxiously.
Yan Jin felt puzzled. Logically speaking, this was not some deep mountain wilderness. Why would mutated wolves appear here?
The three of them hurried to the rooftop balcony to check the situation.
Yan Jin discovered that the mutated wolves here were much larger than those from her original world, at least more than twice the size.
A wolf king with a white neck and white chest stood at the front, leading the entire pack as they surrounded the inn. Their sharp fangs were exposed, and many spikes on their bodies gleamed coldly.
[Ding. Side mission triggered: Resolve the inn crisis.]
[What the hell! Does this mission mean I should go die?]
These mutated wolves were far more troublesome than humans, and there was more than one of them.
Before the system could respond, the wolves bared their teeth viciously. Drool dripped from their huge fangs as they let out low growls.
The wolves behind them opened their mouths and released blades of wind that shot toward the inn. The wind blades struck the protective barrier and quickly dissipated.
[Host, you must quickly find a solution. There are too many wolves, and the barrier level is too low. It cannot hold for long.]
[You are only telling me this now?]
“Awoo!”
A miserable cry suddenly tore through the night sky.
Yu Chen held a longbow in his hands and fired several arrows toward the wolves at the outer edge of the pack. The arrows pierced into the bodies of the mutated beasts, though not very deeply. The damage was limited, yet it still caused them to howl in pain.
Bai Ruozhu had never encountered such a scene before. However, the fear in her heart quickly faded, and she joined the battle.
Yan Jin also activated the Heavenly Thunder Talismans she had exchanged from the system. Thunder rumbled across the sky as bolts of lightning struck the mutated wolves outside the courtyard.
Thud.
Yu Chen’s arrow pierced directly into a blood red eye, driving deep into the wolf’s skull.
The mutated wolf had already been partially paralyzed by Yan Jin’s lightning talisman. After being struck by Yu Chen’s arrow, it died instantly.
…
The two foolish geese in the courtyard also joined the fight.
Flapping their massive wings, they created small tornadoes that swept up the wolves outside.
The dozens of wind blades released by Bai Ruozhu shredded through the wolves like a blender, leaving their bodies torn and bloody.
Bai Ruozhu and the two big white geese cooperated seamlessly, killing quite a number of mutated wolves.
“Awoo!”
A terrifying howl echoed across the night sky.
A pair of blood red eyes suddenly leaped more than ten meters into the air, lunging toward the direction where the three of them were attacking.
Bang!
It crashed into the protective barrier and was thrown backward. The wolf king revealed a disdainful look as cracks spread across the barrier.
[Ding ding ding… Protective barrier damaged. System requires upgrade and reboot.]
“You useless system!”
Yan Jin cursed loudly.
The wolf pack rushed forward recklessly, their bodies crashing one after another into the protective barrier.
“Awoo.”
The wolf king issued another command, and the wolves became restless once again.
Blood dripped everywhere from the wolves’ bodies. Yan Jin worried that the smell of blood might attract zombies.
The three of them did not dare relax.
Yu Chen launched one fireball after another into the wolf pack, filling the air with the smell of burning flesh.
“Why did these wolves suddenly attack us?” Bai Ruozhu asked in confusion.
“There must be something in our courtyard that drove them mad,” Yu Chen said after thinking for a moment.
Yan Jin’s gaze darkened. Her thoughts matched Yu Chen’s exactly.
Seeing that they could not gain the upper hand here, the wolves gradually retreated.
“These mutated wolves are quite cunning. We injured so many of them. They will definitely look for another chance to take revenge. We cannot lower our guard,” Yan Jin said.
“If they come again, I will smash their heads into pieces. Right?”
The last sentence was directed toward the two big white geese. The geese raised their necks proudly and flapped their white wings, clearly agreeing with Bai Ruozhu.
Bai Ruozhu’s words instantly eased the tense atmosphere. The two women burst into laughter. Yan Jin even began considering picking up the dead mutated wolves to roast and eat later.
[Ding. The inn’s protection system has been repaired and upgraded.]
