Yan Jin opened the inn’s three dimensional model and saw that everything was now covered in a layer of green. Meanwhile, the gold coins she originally had were completely gone.

[What the hell? Where did my gold coins go?]

After saying that, the system immediately disappeared. No matter how much Yan Jin cursed at it, it refused to respond.

Yan Jin comforted herself internally. It was fine. She could always earn more money later.

She let out a long breath and finally managed to calm her mood.

Yu Chen did not dare relax. Standing at a high vantage point, his eyes remained fixed on the distant area where the wolves had gathered.

During the wolves’ first assault, three or four wolves had died. The rest of the injured wolves had barely managed to drag their bodies away. They probably would not survive much longer.

“Thank you for tonight, Mr. Yu,” Yan Jin said.

Yu Chen waved his hand and smiled. “I paid for a room here. If the inn had been destroyed by those mutated wolves, then my money would have been wasted.”

Yan Jin did not take his words seriously. She felt that Yu Chen’s thoughts were probably not that simple.

“Come on. Let’s bring the dead mutated wolves back and roast them for wolf meat,” Yan Jin said.

None of them had ever eaten wolf meat before, and no one knew what roasted wolf meat would taste like.

In the distance, the mutated wolf king let out waves of mournful howls.

Yan Jin noticed that the side mission had not yet been completed. It seemed likely that the wolves would return again.

After reinforcing the courtyard with several defensive talismans, the sky gradually began to brighten.

The group quickly cleaned up the battlefield and carried the corpses of the mutated wolves back. Yan Jin converted the mutated wolves into gold coins, and only then did she feel her purse become full again.

In a rather good mood, Yan Jin was feeding the two big white geese. After feeding them for a short while, she suddenly heard Bai Ruozhu’s hurried footsteps, followed by her panicked scream.

“Sister!”

“What happened?” Yan Jin quickly put down the food in her hands and ran over.

“The backyard…”

Before Bai Ruozhu could finish speaking, Yan Jin had already run in the direction she pointed.

On the small hill behind the courtyard, a person lay motionless.

“Why is there someone lying here?”

Yan Jin saw that half of the person’s body was buried in the soil. His body was covered in dirt and sand. His black clothes were soaked through with blood.

She had never realized that the human body could bleed so much.

“I do not know either. I was just checking the surroundings to see if there were any problems, and I discovered him lying here,” Bai Ruozhu said nervously.

Yan Jin hurried forward and turned the man’s body over. She raised her hand to check his breathing and discovered that his thighs and arms were covered with bite marks from wolves.

“Could it be that the wolves last night were searching for him?”

The man kept coughing up blood.

“Quick, help me carry him back,” Yan Jin said.

“If we bring him back, what if the wolf pack from last night returns again?” Bai Ruozhu asked with lingering fear.

“We already offended them last night. Besides, they probably believe we are hiding this man anyway. If that is the case, whether we save him or not, they will still return. In that case, I might as well save him and ask what exactly happened.”

Yan Jin struggled to lift the man. He was not dead yet. As he was carried over her shoulder, his back continued trembling weakly.

Blood flowed down Yan Jin’s shoulder and soaked her clothes.

The man muttered faintly, clutching Yan Jin’s clothing tightly.

“I… do not want to die.”

Yan Jin gritted her teeth and said, “Do not worry. You will not die. I still want to know who led that wolf pack to my place.”

The two of them carried the man back and wrapped his wounds with bandages. However, the blood continued to seep through and would not stop.

Yan Jin searched through the entire system shop, but the suitable medicines were all too expensive. She simply could not afford them.

[System, is there any way to save him?]

The system remained silent for a long time before finally speaking.

[If you complete the side mission, you will likely receive another draw opportunity.]

“In the apocalypse, life and death are ordinary matters. Sister, do not blame yourself too much.”

Bai Ruozhu thought Yan Jin felt guilty for failing to save the man, so she tried to comfort her.

Yan Jin shook her head.

“I am not blaming myself.”

She only felt a bit emotional.

In the apocalypse, the law of the strong devouring the weak had already become normal. She simply had not expected it to appear so nakedly before her eyes.

Suddenly, she thought of something. The side mission had not specified that all the mutated wolves must be killed. That meant she could…

She explained her idea to Bai Ruozhu, omitting any mention of the system.

Just as the two of them prepared to leave with the big white geese, they ran into Yu Chen, who was also heading out with his bow.

Yu Chen said, “I was just planning to hunt some mutated wolves to exchange for gold coins.”

“Why not come with us?” Yan Jin asked.

Yu Chen nodded and did not refuse. With so many mutated wolves around, having one more person meant additional support.

When they approached, the wolves were already alert. More than ten mutated wolves spread out into formation at the same time.

Bai Ruozhu stood in the distance and released dozens of wind blades, forcing the wolves apart.

Yu Chen’s longbow fired arrows in rapid succession. Several arrows shot out swiftly, striking several mutated wolves in a row.

This immediately agitated the wolves. The wolf king roared and charged forward, stirring up a storm of dry leaves.

At that moment, Yan Jin began using her Heavenly Thunder Talismans as if they cost nothing, blasting them toward the wolf king.

The agile wolf king slowed down as its fur was scorched by the lightning.

Boom. Boom.

Another bolt of heavenly thunder struck it.

With a furious roar, the wolf king leaped into the air and swiped its claws toward the lightning.

A violent explosion echoed.

“So strong,” Yu Chen exclaimed.

Yan Jin suddenly felt a tightness in her chest and collapsed to the ground. She glanced at the remaining duration of the defensive talisman.

Two minutes left.

At that moment, the mutated wolf king licked its injured paw, its blood red eyes staring directly at Yan Jin and the others.

The rest of the wolves had already been separated by Yu Chen and Bai Ruozhu, leaving only the wolf king standing alone.

Now was the moment.
