Even though Grace was not an expert specializing in reproduction, he was well aware of what Natural Conception meant. Even after hundreds of years, discussions and debates about its value had never ceased.
If the news of Lu Xia’s Natural Conception were to be exposed, it would be enough to cause a sensation throughout the Empire.
Realizing this, Grace took a deep breath, and his expression grew solemn.
He packed his things, did not linger in the First Military District, and did not even bother to pay attention to the loser Kofi. Instead, he hurriedly drove his hovercar away.
By the time Colonel Kofi finished shouting 500 times that he was an idiot and wanted to find Grace, the man was long gone.
At this moment, Colonel Kofi deeply felt that Grace had truly never taken him seriously.
This left him feeling somewhat bewildered.
He couldn’t understand why Grace, as a “defective product,” could be so arrogant and confident instead of living cautiously like other “defective products.”
Where did his strength come from?
As for Colonel Kofi’s inner thoughts, Grace paid no attention at all. He was rushing home as quickly as possible.
When Lu Xia changed her clothes and came downstairs to have something to eat, she was surprised to see Grace hurrying back. She raised an eyebrow, thinking that this man reacted quite quickly.
Before she could speak, Grace had already approached her and said, “Can we talk?”
His tone carried an obvious plea, which inexplicably softened Lu Xia’s heart. She nodded gently, “Sure, what do you want to talk about?”
They didn’t go to the study but simply sat on the sofa in the living room. After all, aside from the two of them, only the old butler was in the house, and he wasn’t around at the moment, making it a suitable place to talk.
Grace didn’t insist on going to the study either.
“I want to know, how many people are aware of this matter at the moment?”
As soon as Grace asked the question, Lu Xia understood what he meant. It seemed the man was thinking along the same lines as her, which made Lu Xia somewhat happy. “Not many. Those who know can be trusted. I don’t want to make it public, and I certainly don’t want to become anyone’s research subject. Although I don’t know why this happened, since it has, I can only accept it.”
Hearing Lu Xia’s words, Grace’s tense nerves relaxed. He was relieved that Lu Xia felt the same way.
With the weight off his mind, Grace couldn’t help but glance at Lu Xia’s flat abdomen. It was hard for him to imagine that life was already beginning to grow there.
Even now, he hadn’t fully recovered from the shock.
He, of all people, was going to have his own child—and one conceived through Natural Conception.
Sensing where Grace’s gaze had landed, Lu Xia felt a bit self-conscious and instinctively covered her abdomen with her arm. “I don’t know what will happen during the pregnancy. For the next while, I’ll likely need you to take care of me.”
“Of course. Whatever you need, just tell me, and I’ll do my best to fulfill it,” Grace assured her earnestly.
In fact, even if Lu Xia weren’t pregnant, as her Husband-Attendant, he should have done the same. There was no reason to hesitate.
“If you need, I can request leave from the First Military District to focus on serving you at home.” When Grace said this, there was even a hint of anticipation in his eyes.
Lu Xia, however, felt somewhat uncomfortable hearing the word “serve” once again and decisively refused, “No need. You should focus on your work and not devote all your energy to me. I’ll reach out if I need you.”
The light in Grace’s eyes dimmed upon hearing Lu Xia’s words. Then, he listened as Lu Xia changed the subject and asked, “How is Colonel Kofi? Has he left the First Military District?”
Suddenly hearing Lu Xia ask about this, Grace remembered the man and shook his head, “I don’t know. When I returned, he hadn’t finished shouting.”
Although Grace didn’t specify what Colonel Kofi hadn’t finished shouting, Lu Xia knew all too well—this punishment was something she had actively requested.
The thought of Colonel Kofi shouting “I am a fool” in front of so many people was endlessly amusing.
Unable to hold back a smile, she said, “Regardless of whether he leaves or not, he likely won’t have the face to bother you in the First Military District anymore.”
“Thank you.”
Grace’s sudden expression of gratitude caught Lu Xia off guard. “What are you thanking me for?”
“I know you did this for my sake.” Otherwise, Lu Xia could have easily ignored the matter. Yet, upon learning of it, she immediately chose to stand by his side and defend him. Grace felt deeply grateful.
Lu Xia, however, replied, “I just couldn’t stand his arrogant attitude. It doesn’t have much to do with you.”
Hearing this, Grace took her words as an attempt to reassure him not to overthink it. With a smile in his eyes, he said, “I understand. But even if it was only a little bit for me, I should still thank you.”
What he didn’t voice aloud was his gratitude for Lu Xia telling him about her pregnancy.
She could have kept it hidden. Even if she hadn’t said a word, he would never have known. Yet, Lu Xia personally went to the First Military District to deliver this news, simply because he was the child’s male father—an acknowledgment of his identity.
In the Empire, Females only artificially conceive offspring with their Main Husband, or occasionally with favored secondary consorts.
But Husband-Attendants like him were never granted such an opportunity.
Yet now, Lu Xia hadn’t denied his existence because of his status.
The balance in Grace’s heart finally tipped uncontrollably in Lu Xia’s favor at this moment.
Why did a Female like Lu Xia exist in this world?
Noticing the fervor in Grace’s eyes, Lu Xia felt inexplicably uneasy. She instinctively stood up, “Alright, if you have nothing else, I’m going to eat.”
With those words, Lu Xia hurriedly left the dining room.
Watching her depart, Grace couldn’t help but curl his lips into a smile, his eyes filled with tender affection.
Lu Xia had been worried about whether she would experience any pregnancy symptoms. Although this was her first time, she had seen others go through pregnancy before. She was well aware of those who suffered from morning sickness from the start and feared she might be the same.
But the reality was, after two days of anxiety, she discovered she seemed to have no reaction. She didn’t know if it was because it wasn’t time yet or if her constitution was truly special, but in any case, everything remained uncertain.
Once she realized this, Lu Xia no longer dwelled on the matter and instead threw herself wholeheartedly into her work.
