Qiao Xi let out a sigh of relief. She had cursed him out quite satisfyingly just now, but when it came to truly severing ties with that past relationship, it still hurt inside.

She lifted her head to look at Nangong He and said seriously, “Thank you. You saved me again. Sorry for troubling you.”

“Not for free. You’re coming to the hospital with me,” Nangong He replied succinctly.Full novel: The Fierce Yet Adorable Young Madam Only Wants to Focus on Her Career — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Turning to glance at her younger brother’s hospital room, Qiao Xi hesitated. “But my brother’s transfer to another hospital—”

“Are you oxygen? If he loses you, will he stop breathing?” Nangong He shot back mockingly.

Qiao Xi took a deep breath and thought very seriously that the reason Nangong He had managed to live this long without being beaten to death was definitely because his family was rich.

Such a beautiful mouth, yet every word that came out of it was poisoned.

“He won’t stop breathing without me, but listening to you talk makes me want to stop breathing.”

Qiao Xi snapped back, but still obediently added, “I’ll go to the hospital with you. Is it to see your grandfather?”

At the mention of his grandfather, Nangong He unexpectedly stopped being sarcastic. He nodded. “He saw today’s news and insisted I bring you over.”

After leaving the hospital and getting into the car, Mo Hua handed a thick stack of documents to Qiao Xi.

Then he respectfully passed an A4 sheet of paper to Nangong He.

“Miss Qiao, this is our CEO’s profile. Please familiarize yourself with it on the way to the hospital to avoid exposing any flaws later.”

Looking at the forty or fifty pages in her own hands, Qiao Xi couldn’t help but glance curiously at the single sheet in Nangong He’s hand.

Mo Hua quickly explained, “The CEO is holding your profile. The two of you need to familiarize yourselves with each other.”

However, Nangong He didn’t even look at it. He casually tossed it aside and opened his laptop to review documents online.

Qiao Xi had seen clearly just now—her profile didn’t even fill half the page. It basically only contained things like her name and age.

Looking down at the thick pile in her own hands, Qiao Xi suddenly felt the gap between herself and Nangong He.

It was like she was taking a closed-book exam covering seven entire subjects.

While he only had to take one subject—and it was open-book.

During the whole ride, neither her mouth nor her brain got a moment’s rest. Qiao Xi spent the entire journey memorizing the information until she had most of it down.

“The old master may not ask about it, but you absolutely must know it clearly,” Mo Hua reminded her nonstop while opening the car door for her.

Although Qiao Xi felt she had memorized things quite thoroughly already, Mo Hua’s reminder suddenly made her feel like a student waiting for a teacher to randomly call on her to recite a text.

Still uneasy, Mo Hua gave her a surprise quiz on a few of the harder sections.

To his surprise, Qiao Xi answered fluently without a single mistake.

Even Nangong He showed a trace of surprise in his eyes as he lowered his voice and said, “Looks like you’re not stupid after all. You’ve got talent. So why did you repeat a grade in middle school?”

By the time he was fifteen, he had already graduated from a foreign university.

Meanwhile, Qiao Xi had only just entered her first year of high school.

“Oh, my useless foster father gambled away the money for my brother’s medical treatment, so I went to work and earn money for him. Then I came back to continue school. Problem with that?”

She said it lightly, but for a minor, it must have been a dark and painful memory she could barely bear to revisit.

A complicated shadow flickered through Nangong He’s eyes. He said nothing more and simply strode into the hospital first.

Behind him, Qiao Xi rolled her eyes and grumbled irritably, “So all those impressive achievements of yours are just for showing off in front of a poor student like me? Then you—”

Before she could finish speaking, the two of them reached the hospital room door and suddenly heard the sound of a cup smashing onto the floor.

A series of crashing noises erupted from inside. Several shards of broken porcelain had even flown out through the crack beneath the door and scattered into the hallway.
