Right now she really couldn’t touch the Gu family yet, but that didn’t mean she had to be afraid of a mere maid!
Xiaomo had never expected that this real daughter, who always swallowed everything without complaint, would actually dare to raise a hand against her. For a moment she even forgot to keep up her bluster, standing there stunned.
Seizing the moment, Gu Wanshi slapped her again.
One cheek, then the other, now that was symmetry.
After taking the second slap, Xiaomo finally snapped back to her senses and shrieked, “You poor beggar, how dare you hit me? I’ll teach you a real lesson today…”
The moment she raised her hand, she heard Gu Wanshi say coldly, “Try touching me and see what happens. Say what you want, I’m still a daughter of the Gu family. If a servant like you dares lay a hand on me, and I take it to my parents, do you think they’ll side with you or with me?”
Even though Xiaomo was furious, hearing this made something flicker in her eyes.
That was true, no matter how unwanted Gu Wanshi was, she was still the Gu family’s young lady.
If a mere servant of the Gu family really dared to raise a hand against the Gu family’s young lady, and it got taken to Mr. Gu and his wife, would they really side with her?
But before now, Gu Wanshi had always let her be pushed around however she liked, never daring to report her or even talk back. Why did she seem like a completely different person today?
Before she could work it out, Gu Wanshi had already walked off.
Having given the little tramp’s lackey a light lesson, Gu Wanshi was in a good mood. She used the Dengdeng car-hailing app to call a luxury taxi, planning to head straight for a restaurant nearby called Zuihai Yuntian.
The city she currently lived in was City A, and Zuihai Yuntian was one of City A’s few leading restaurants. All the others required membership, except this one.
She was starving right now, and planned to go there directly to eat, spending the hundred thousand from her task.
Meanwhile, the more Xiaomo thought about it, the angrier she got, so she ran to Gu Wanning and reported the incident with plenty of exaggeration.
Gu Wanning had just finished being fussed over by her family and was still savoring it.
So what if Gu Wanshi had been found and brought back? There could only be one real daughter of the Gu family, and that was her, Gu Wanning!
After hearing Xiaomo out, Gu Wanning raised her eyebrows in surprise. “That country bumpkin actually dared to hit someone?”
“Exactly, Miss! She even said a few mocking things about you. I asked her where she was going, and she wouldn’t even say! She couldn’t be planning something to hurt you, could she?”
Gu Wanning let out a cold laugh. “Let’s go see exactly where she thinks she’s off to.”
She went straight downstairs to the front door, just in time to see Gu Wanshi climbing into a luxury taxi and driving off.
Gu Wanning immediately had her own driver bring the car around and followed right behind the taxi.
“Driver, please hurry,” Gu Wanshi said the moment she got into the taxi.
After all, the task had a two-hour limit. It should only take twenty minutes to get there, but it was better to be careful.
As the driver drove, Gu Wanshi used the Huaqianbao app on her phone to link the bank card the system had given her, transferring the entire hundred thousand from the card into Huaqianbao.
In the world of this book, mobile payments were the popular method too, and Huaqianbao was one of the most widely used payment apps.
But the Huaqianbao here had no spending limit, whether for transfers or payments, there was no cap at all.
Gu Wanshi noticed that if she hadn’t transferred this hundred thousand, her Huaqianbao would have held only a little over three hundred.
And to think she was supposed to be the Gu family’s real daughter, how pathetic!
The phone number linked to the bank card was the same one she was currently using, so she was able to link the bank card to Huaqianbao.
Once the linking was done, Gu Wanshi suddenly thought of something and asked in her mind, “System, this money on the card you gave me, it’s legitimate and above board, right?”
“Rest assured, host. No matter how much money this system gives you, it is entirely legitimate and above board.”
“Good.”
The car pulled up in front of the restaurant, and the fare came to just over two hundred.
The restaurant was open twenty-four hours. As soon as she got out, she walked straight in, and a server quickly came up to greet her. “Welcome, miss! Just… one?”
“Yes, just me,” Gu Wanshi nodded.
The server sized her up with suspicion.
The cheapest dish at their restaurant cost eight or nine hundred, and the girl in front of him had an unremarkable face and unremarkable clothes, could she really be someone who’d come here to eat on her own?
Gu Wanshi caught the doubt in the server’s expression and said directly, “I’ll order first, and pay as soon as I’m done ordering.”
“Pfft.” The server let out a cold laugh. “Are you here to take photos, or to hook a rich guy? We don’t welcome people like you here, get out.”
Gu Wanshi raised an eyebrow and said coldly, “Who gave you the right to insult a customer like that? I imagine a place like this has a pretty thorough complaint process, doesn’t it?”
“You—!”
At that moment, a woman who looked like a manager walked over and stopped the server, then politely led Gu Wanshi to a table in the main hall and handed her the menu.
“I apologize, this server is new. I’m the hall manager, I’ll be attending to you from here.” The manager wore a friendly smile.
Gu Wanshi didn’t pay it much mind. She’d seen plenty of people judge others by appearance, she’d eat her meal, no need to care what others thought.
In her past life she had, after all, been an award-sweeping actress, so even though the prices on the menu were shockingly high, she didn’t so much as blink.
“Do you have any recommendations?” Gu Wanshi asked.
The manager immediately rattled off several dish names. “These are all our restaurant’s signature dishes.”
“Alright, I’ll take the lobster omelet, the dragon soup, the jade-cut beef ribs, and one gold-leaf sundae.”
Hearing the dishes Gu Wanshi named, the earlier server froze for a second, then immediately said, “Manager, don’t listen to her, how could she possibly afford this? She’s clearly here to cause trouble!”
These dishes were all the restaurant’s signature specialties, and naturally none of them were cheap.
The manager glared at him, then turned back to Gu Wanshi with a smile. “Are you sure about all this?”
“Yes. How much does that come to so far?”
The manager quickly did the math, then said, “Thirty-five thousand.”
That still left sixty-five thousand short of the task amount, but Gu Wanshi couldn’t eat any more than that, wasting food was never a good idea.
After thinking it over, Gu Wanshi ordered a bottle of red wine worth sixty-five thousand as well, bringing the total to exactly a hundred thousand.
“That’ll be all. I can pay now.”
“Heh, still keeping up the act?” The server, still unconvinced, kept up his mockery. “Looking at that getup of yours, it’s probably not even worth a hundred bucks total! You can afford a meal this expensive?”
Just then, a soft voice rang out: “Let me pay for her.”
