Gu Wanhe had the other bodyguards leave first, then leaned in and asked Gu Wanshi quietly, “Wanshi, are you serious about this? Where did you even get the money? And why did you suddenly move out of the house, did you actually buy this place yourself?”

“Cousin, I’ll explain later.”

Gu Wanshi first signed a one-year contract with the bodyguard agency Zhao Tong belonged to.Full novel: The Get-Rich System: The True Heiress Stuns the World — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Two million four hundred thousand a year, of which Zhao Tong would receive sixty percent.

They’d agreed beforehand that besides protecting Gu Wanshi’s safety, whenever Gu Wanshi went out shopping, Zhao Tong would also help carry things.

With wages this high, Zhao Tong naturally had no objections.

Just as Gu Wanshi was about to transfer the money, she heard the system’s voice: “Ding! Current main quest activated: spend eight million within two hours to earn a rebate and two lottery draws.”

Talk about perfect timing.

Since Gu Wanshi was hiring the bodyguard to protect her own safety, this counted as spending money on herself, so the payment naturally counted toward the quest.

But beyond the bodyguard’s normal salary, buying Zhao Tong anything extra would have to be counted separately.

After transferring the money, the quest still had five million six hundred thousand left.

“Cousin, going shopping? I’ll treat you to dinner after!” Gu Wanshi said eagerly.

“No, I still have to go to work. I’ll come find you tonight, and then the two of us can have a good talk,” Gu Wanhe said.

“Okay.”

After Gu Wanhe left, Gu Wanshi set off for the mall, with Zhao Tong naturally following her every step.

The two of them took a premium taxi, and Zhao Tong asked curiously, “Boss, you’re so rich, why haven’t you bought a car?”

“No rush,” Gu Wanshi said. “I haven’t picked one out yet.”

“I see.”

Once they reached the mall, Gu Wanshi launched into a frenzied shopping spree.

There was no way around it, the quest only had a little over an hour left, so she had to hurry and could only buy pricier items at the mall.

She bought three bags from a luxury store in one go, all limited editions, totaling two million six hundred thousand.

Then came clothes, shoes, necklaces, skincare products, makeup… all high-end brands.

Zhao Tong’s eyes were practically bulging by the end of it.

Finally, she bought a cup of milk tea, and the eight-million main quest was complete, earning her a fivefold rebate, forty million.

Gu Wanshi also casually used her own personal funds to buy a cup for Zhao Tong.

According to the system’s assessment, Zhao Tong’s character was absolutely trustworthy, but her appearance score was still a little lacking, so buying her things had to come out of Gu Wanshi’s personal funds.

But with over a hundred million in personal assets now, what was the cost of a cup of milk tea?

Besides, she’d already promised earlier to cover Zhao Tong’s food and drink.

There was a plaza outside the mall entrance, and Gu Wanshi and Zhao Tong sat on a bench there, sipping their milk tea and resting.

It was a weekday, so there weren’t many people in the plaza.

Just then, Gu Wanshi suddenly noticed several men walking toward them.

Judging by their manner, they were clearly headed straight for the two of them, and each one looked aggressive.

Zhao Tong noticed even before she did, by now she’d already set her milk tea aside and stood up, positioning herself in front of Gu Wanshi.

The several men really did walk right up and stop in front of them.

One of them, his face fierce, said to Zhao Tong, “This has nothing to do with you, get lost!”

Zhao Tong looked at him coldly and started stretching her limbs.

But the men didn’t take her seriously at all.

“Who are you?” Gu Wanshi asked, frowning.

“Heh.” Another man sneered. “Who we are doesn’t matter. What matters is you need to come with us right now, someone wants to see you.”

“Is this some kind of joke?” Gu Wanshi said coldly. “You show up and don’t explain a thing, and expect me to just go with you?”

Actually, she could already guess who was behind this.

Although the plaza wasn’t crowded, doing something like this in broad daylight, this had to be people the Gu family had sent.

“Don’t be ungrateful for kindness, or we won’t be polite about this!”

With that, the man reached out to grab Gu Wanshi.

Zhao Tong blocked him instantly, grabbed the man’s arm, and threw him hard to the ground with a shoulder throw.

“Ouch!” The man’s face twisted in pain.

Seeing this, the others immediately grew furious.

“You bitch, think you’re tough, huh? Brothers, get her, teach her a proper lesson!”

With that, the men all charged forward together.

But Zhao Tong wasn’t fazed at all.

With a left hook here and a right hook there, followed by a roundhouse kick, a side kick, and a spinning triple kick, she had all the men flat on the ground within moments.

From start to finish, Gu Wanshi didn’t even need to stand up from the bench.

Gu Wanshi watched, utterly stunned.

She’d already known Zhao Tong was skilled, but seeing it with her own eyes like this, she still felt… how satisfying!

Her judgment really had been good!

This bodyguard hadn’t been hired for nothing!

“Get lost, now!” Zhao Tong barked. “If you dare bother my boss again, I’ll knock every one of your teeth out!”

Although the men were unwilling to admit defeat, they knew full well they were no match for Zhao Tong, so they struggled to their feet and ran off, cursing under their breath.

“Boss, are you all right? Weren’t scared, were you?” Zhao Tong turned and looked at Gu Wanshi with concern.

“I’m fine,” Gu Wanshi shook her head. “Zhao Tong, you can actually fight this well, that’s amazing!”

Zhao Tong scratched her head, quite proud of herself. “Heh, I’ve been learning taekwondo and sanda since I was a kid, and picked up some other stuff too. I was never interested in studying, I just liked martial arts! I’ll be honest with you, boss, even if those guys just now brought ten more like them, I wouldn’t be fazed.”

“Wonderful!” Gu Wanshi stood up, beaming. “You did great just now. Come on, let’s go buy you something, as a reward!”

Zhao Tong quickly said, “Boss, no need. You already pay me a salary, what I just did was simply part of my job, there’s no need to reward me for it.”

“Salary is salary, but doing good work deserves a reward too, don’t some companies even give out bonuses?” Gu Wanshi said with a smile. “If you feel bad taking things from me for free, then just protect me even more diligently from now on.”

“Don’t worry, boss, as long as I’m around, I won’t let anyone touch a single hair on your head!”

Gu Wanshi took Zhao Tong into the mall again, wanting to buy her a few pieces of clothing.

But Zhao Tong firmly refused any luxury brands, so Gu Wanshi didn’t push it and instead spent just over a thousand yuan on a few sets of sportswear for her.

As for the several men Zhao Tong had chased off, they slunk off to Gu Corporation and went straight to the general manager’s office.

After hearing what they had to say, Gu Zihao flew into a rage and smashed the cup right next to him.

“A bunch of useless idiots, can’t even handle such a small task properly?”

“Y-young Master Gu, it’s really not our fault. That woman with Gu Wanshi, she could really fight, we did everything we could!”

“What woman?”
