24 – That’s right, I am Chengguan
Ye Yuntong turned her head to glance at him and winked.
Qin Dingzhang looked at the unyielding Ye Yuntong, who still had the mood to flirt with others, and felt utterly helpless. He released her first, then pulled out a badge from the inner pocket of his white coat. “Police. Please cooperate.”
It was a police officer’s ID.
Ye Yuntong glanced at it—it was genuine, but just like hers, it was specially issued.
Ye Yuntong nodded with feigned understanding, then crossed her arms and leaned in toward Qin Dingzhang. “Officer, on a special mission?”
“Behave. Name, age, occupation, birthplace, and why are you at the hospital?!” Qin Dingzhang put away his badge, his expression stern as he stared at her.
Ye Yuntong remained as casual as ever. She tilted her head and smiled sweetly at Xu Dongzhi. “Is that little brother also a police officer?”
Flattered by her smile, Xu Dongzhi felt a sudden surge of pride. He saluted. “People’s Police!”
Although their Sixth International was not affiliated with any government, their duty was to protect the people—all people in the broadest sense.
Ye Yuntong returned the salute.
Her gesture was surprisingly precise.
“Who exactly are you? If you don’t explain clearly today, I have the authority to take you in for questioning.”
“No need. Just like you, I’m officially employed too.” Ye Yuntong unzipped her work jacket, pulled out an ID, and announced loudly, “Captain of the Second Brigade, Urban Management Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau, Wuli Town, Dafeng Township.”
What she produced was her urban management officer’s ID.
“Wait.” Xu Dongzhi processed the long string of words, then widened his eyes in disbelief. “Urban management?”
Ye Yuntong nodded. “That’s right. I’m an urban management officer, deputy section level.”
Qin Dingzhang examined her urban management ID carefully.
No issues.
She really was an urban management officer!
Qin Dingzhang handed the ID back to her.
“All good now, Officer?” Ye Yuntong took her ID, stuffed it into her pocket, and prepared to leave. “If there’s nothing else, I’m heading back.”
“Wait.” Qin Dingzhang stopped her again.
“What now?”
“Why are you at the hospital?” Qin Dingzhang pressed further.
“To see a doctor.”
“What illness?”
“Seriously, Officer? You’re even going to question why I’m seeing a doctor? Can you cure illnesses too?”
“Just answer the question. What illness?”
“Women’s issues. Not convenient to say!”
“What illness!”
Ye Yuntong rolled her eyes at such a rigid person. “Irregular periods, menstrual cramps. Can you treat that?!”
“Ahem.” Xu Dongzhi choked slightly on his own saliva.
This girl was a bit spicy.
Qin Dingzhang’s ears flushed slightly, but he continued questioning. “But the hospital is closed now. Why are you here in the middle of the night?”
“Officer, I’m from a small town. I didn’t know hospitals close. My stomach hurt badly in the middle of the night, okay?” Ye Yuntong rubbed her stomach, putting on an act.
Qin Dingzhang frowned, clearly unconvinced.
“Want to check?” Ye Yuntong straightened up, grabbed his collar, and started pulling him along. “I’ll show you in the restroom.”
Qin Dingzhang shook off her hand, his ears now bright red. “You can go.”
“Sure you don’t want to check?” Ye Yuntang turned around and raised an eyebrow.
Qin Dingzhang looked down at her from his superior position, warning, “You’d better make sure you’re not lying to me.”
“I’m a law-abiding citizen, so bye-bye, officer!” Ye Yuntong waved at him with a flick of her hand, then shoved both hands into her pockets and walked away.
“Little girl, drink more brown sugar water.” Just as she stepped out the door, Xu Dongzhi called out loudly behind her.
