“Your Highness Luo… Fast actually doesn’t mean any harm. He’s just… just…”
Ye Wen was the first to react, desperately trying to find an excuse for Fast but after repeating “just” several times, he still couldn’t come up with anything convincing.
On one side was the young master of the Alwen family; on the other was the only S class male zerg. He couldn’t afford to offend either.
As the gazes of both male zergs turned toward him, cold sweat began to bead across Ye Wen’s forehead. He couldn’t help but regret speaking up without thinking.
Luo’s gaze toward Ye Wen was actually unfocused.
He had only looked over instinctively at the one speaking. In reality, his thoughts were elsewhere:
The Alwen family… Silver General… that sounded familiar…
Right! Earlier, Principal Charles had said the fountain at the school gate was a trophy belonging to General Berkeley Alwen.
So this noisy fellow actually belonged to the same family as that general?
Luo lifted his eyes, disbelief clear in his voice. “Do zerg genes degrade over time?”
Otherwise, how could the descendant of such an impressive general sound so… unintelligent?
Fast took a few seconds to process before realizing Luo had insulted him.
The young master, who had never been scolded before, froze for a moment, then erupted in fury.
“You rude brat!! How dare you say something like that to me!”
Luo tilted his head slightly. “What did I say that was wrong?”
His matter of fact expression only poured fuel onto the fire. Fast’s face flushed red with anger, even the patterns on his neck emerging uncontrollably.
“What are you pretending for? I don’t understand how General Gu Yuan could choose to take care of trash like you!! He clearly said he prefers independent male zergs!! What right do you have to be looked after by him?!”
…What even was all this supposed to mean?
Why shouldn’t he be taken care of? Besides, it was Yuanyuan who had willingly treated him like a hatchling, it wasn’t something he had asked for.
If anything, he was the one troubled by the fact that the entire zerg race inexplicably treated him like a child.
Over there, seeing that Luo remained silent for so long, Fast assumed it was guilt. He raised his hand, preparing to attack Luo with his own mental tendrils.
Unlike female zergs, who would partially transform their bodies during combat, male zergs mostly relied on mental tendrils to attack.
These mental tendrils could provide the greatest comfort to female zergs yet when used offensively, they could inflict the most cruel pain. Even among lower ranked male zergs, the mental pressure from a higher ranked male would force them into submission.
But Luo’s rank far surpassed Fast’s and strictly speaking, he wasn’t even a zerg.
The teachers nearby were so anxious that they almost rushed forward, intending to shield the still ignorant young male zerg from Fast’s mental tendril attack yet Luo merely watched indifferently as the thread like tendrils hovered in the air.
In truth, such mental tendrils should not have been visible to any zerg, not even to their user. That was why Gu Yuan had never questioned Luo’s tendrils.
But for some reason, Luo could see them clearly, as though they had substance.
“Whoosh!”
The mental tendrils lashed out abruptly. Luo tilted slightly to the side, effortlessly dodging the attack.
At the same moment, the tendrils behind him reacted as if stimulated by the sudden aggression.
They shot forward in an instant, wrapping around Fast’s mental tendrils, extending outward and lifting the furious Fast straight into the air.
“Ahhh!!”
Caught off guard, Fast was hoisted into midair, flailing wildly as he struggled.
Ah… the tendrils were a bit out of control.
But it didn’t matter.
Luo paid little attention to the stunned expressions of those around him. He walked forward at an unhurried pace, stopping in front of Fast.
The slightly unruly tendrils seemed to sense his mood. As he approached, they slowly lowered Fast, stopping at a height where his feet couldn’t touch the ground yet remained within Luo’s easy reach.
Luo’s gaze swept over Fast’s terrified expression, his own face almost indifferent. Idly, he thought that male and female zergs didn’t seem all that different to him.
Fast was just like that Bai Langdi, once lifted by his tendrils, both would scream in shrill panic. At their core, they seemed equally weak, to the point that he almost felt a hint of pity.
“You said you don’t understand why Yuanyuan takes care of me?”
Luo let out a light laugh, his tone carrying a naïve kind of cruelty.
“This is the reason.”
“Y… you…”
Fast’s face turned pale, his chest heaving violently, his voice faltering.
“What about me?”
Luo asked with a smile.
“I’m strong. Why shouldn’t I be with Yuanyuan?”
As he spoke, the tendrils lifted again, raising Fast even higher into the air.
Seeing himself being carried farther and farther from the ground, Fast steeled himself, squeezed his eyes shut and shouted,
“So what if you’re strong? You still have to obey the arrangements of the Empire and the Male Protection Association!”
“You think you came here to study?! My male parent said it himself! They put you in Class A so you can marry those noble military females and produce offspring! You’re the only S class male zerg, the Association would never, *mmph!”
Before he could finish, Ye Wen reacted swiftly, tossing a summer fruit into the air to block his mouth.
Fast had spoken too quickly and his words were filled with complex terms. Luo took a full half minute to process what he meant.
He recalled the comments he had seen in the livestream that morning. Frowning slightly, he guided his tendrils to slowly lower Fast, intending to let him explain properly.
“Doo doo doo.”
At that moment, a notification chimed from the terminal on Luo’s wrist.
A video call request, from Gu Yuan.
“Thud!”
Luo released his tendrils without hesitation, dropping Fast straight onto the ground. Then he quickly accepted the call, his voice bright and cheerful:
“Yuanyuan, you’re here~”
Sure enough, saying he liked him had worked. Gu Yuan had even taken the initiative to call him, at least for now, there was no need to worry about him sneaking off to the frontlines again.
Gu Yuan’s stern features appeared in the projected video. He seemed to have just arrived at the military headquarters; documents lay scattered across the desk before him. At the sight of Luo, a faint smile softened the corners of his eyes.
“Have you already entered the school? Didn’t you say you’d start the livestream once you got there? Did something delay you?”
Only then did Luo remember the livestream. Still unfamiliar with the terminal, he fumbled until he found the streaming app. After turning it on, he looked back at Gu Yuan and spoke in a slightly coaxing tone,
“I started it now!”
Gu Yuan chuckled softly. “I wasn’t insisting you had to stream. I just thought something might have happened to you at school.”
Something… happened?
Out of the corner of his eye, Luo glanced at Fast, who was still sprawled on the ground, not yet recovered.
Fast’s words from earlier surged back into his mind. Thinking about how he hadn’t been able to “taste” even a trace of Gu Yuan’s pheromones over the past few days, Luo finally felt a wave of grievance.
The upward lilt in his voice from seeing Gu Yuan dropped instantly. His eyes lowered, his expression turning pitiful.
“Something did happen. Luo got bullied.”
Gu Yuan’s expression sharpened at once. His gaze swept over Luo, examining him as if checking for injuries.
“Who bullied you?”
The viewers, who had just flooded into the livestream upon seeing it start, immediately heard the young male zerg’s aggrieved complaint and exploded:
[Who?! Who bullied my baby?!]
[I told you Luo shouldn’t go to a military academy!! Look at what those military females have done!]
[General, are those really documents on your desk?]
[Ahhhh I see it, those are slips of paper! They say “make the call” and “don’t make the call.” He was drawing lots, wasn’t he? Hahaha why is the General suddenly so cute?!]
[What do you mean “little couple”… wait no, who bullied Luo?! Step forward if you dare! If you’ve got the guts, fight me one on one!!]
[Thanks for the invite, I’m currently at the Empire’s First Military Academy, heading over to beat someone up right now!!]
Fast, still sprawled on the ground and unable to get up: ?
Who exactly got bullied here, huh?!
Author’s Note:
So many people showed up all at once (panicking). Thank you all for coming specifically to laugh at me, QAQ.
I know it sounds absurd, the author writing a zerg story getting scared by bugs but please let me explain, TVT:
I really am terrified of bugs. Last night, I didn’t notice the cockroach on the takeaway bag. I thought it was some kind of new sealing sticker. So when it suddenly flapped its wings and flew down, I genuinely got so scared that I completely broke down…
This story is about the zerg race but it incorporates a lot of my own original settings. Since it’s set in a fictional world, the zergs here are not based on any real insects from Earth.
That’s also why I’ve never described specific real life inspirations for the characters, I have a separate concept for the origin of this “zerg race.”
I really like the worldbuilding of zerg settings. It allows me to write about beautiful, powerful tops and strong, compelling bottoms, which is why I chose this theme.
A sweet, gentle story featuring a seemingly innocent but secretly dark and otherworldly young god like top paired with an outwardly cold but inwardly warm, nurturing male lead, that’s my personal preference.
Writing light, sweet stories is also my way of giving everyone a sense of joy while reading. If this situation made everyone laugh, then I suppose we’ve arrived at the same destination by different paths.
I update daily! Unless something unexpected happens, new chapters will be posted every night at 9 PM.
Also, I noticed that many readers aren’t very familiar with zerg settings. I’ve reflected on that and over the next few days I’ll revise the earlier chapters to provide a clearer and more detailed explanation of my version of the zerg world.
