Eric was confused by the assassin’s words.
“What does he mean by ‘wild spark’?
As if I’m supposed to be controlled.” Eric summoned his sword and readied his battle stance.
He knew he couldn’t beat the assassin, but he had to delay him.
Daina wasn’t someone who would simply back down because of what he had done, but Eric couldn’t let the assassin know that he was stalling for time.
Seeing Eric’s actions, the assassin followed suit and conjured a sword of his own.
However, unlike Eric, he lacked the serious expression on his face.
The assassin pointed his sword at Eric, daring him to attack.
Accepting the invitation, Eric bolted forward, his sword aimed at the assassin’s neck.
As soon as his opponent moved to block, Eric Flash Stepped behind him.
But before his body could even fully materialize, a kick connected with his head, sending him crashing into a nearby building.
Before he could even stand, a torrent of flames enveloped his body.
Eric felt his skin tear apart, only to rebuild itself moments later, before being torn apart again.
Pain.
That was all Eric could think of.
Before the flames could reduce him to ash, he Flash Stepped to the side, staggering as phantom pain continued to crawl across his body.
Before he could regain his focus, a knee slammed into his stomach, causing him to cough up blood.
The blood quickly disintegrated into sparks before vanishing.
The knee strike snapped Eric out of his dazed state.
He immediately Flash Stepped backward, then focused his senses.
He felt the assassin approaching before the man even arrived.
Eric raised his sword and blocked a downward slash before Flash Stepping several steps backward.
A spear suddenly shot toward his head.
Eric tilted his body, narrowly dodging it.
The spear grazed his shoulder, but the wound immediately healed.
The weapon flew past him before suddenly turning around and attacking from behind.
Expecting it, Eric disintegrated into sparks, causing the spear to pass harmlessly through his body.
Throughout the exchange, Eric’s soul was being drained in large quantities.
For a brief moment, the assassin’s smile faltered before returning to its creepy expression.
“It seems you have some skills,” he remarked.
Eric reformed his battle stance, his expression cold.
“You want to kill me?
Who do you think you are?” His voice held no amusement.
“I am the heir of Life.
My entire existence demands that I stay alive.” The assassin’s face twisted with anger upon hearing Eric’s words.
“Big words from the descendant of a dead god.” The assassin bolted forward.
This time, he was going for the kill.
Eric raised his sword and blocked the incoming strike, but the sheer force of the blow sent his arms flying backward.
Before he could recover, the assassin drove a knee into his stomach.
Pain exploded through Eric’s body.
Before he could even register it, a kick slammed into his thigh, sending him crashing into another building.
The residents of the surrounding buildings had already fled before the fight even began.
Seeing his opponent’s dazed and weakened state, the assassin raised his sword and prepared to plunge it into the skull of the kid.
However, before he could complete the attack, his mind suddenly became fuzzy.
For a split second, his senses failed him.
Then— A pair of claws slashed across his chest.
The assassin’s eyes sharpened.
Something had lunged at him.
He instinctively grabbed the beast’s jaws just before its teeth could sink into his neck.He pushed the beast back and stared at it with a wary gaze.
“Fox demon.
Only three tails.
A mere Awakened.” Eric stood up from the rubble and summoned a set of clothes from his ring.
Seeing Daina’s figure, he smiled as electricity crackled across his body.
“Wow, a hero with fangs.
All you need now is a cape.” Daina looked at him with a disdainful expression before moving to stand by his side.
Three figures stood on the roof of a tall building, gazing at the fight.
They wore identical uniforms, each bearing a badge etched with the crest of the Void Clan.
The first figure leaned against the edge of the roof, watching the battle with an amused smile.
“Interesting.
That boy is still alive.” The second figure narrowed his eyes as he studied Daina.
“Forget the boy.
That’s a daughter of the Beast God.” His tone carried a hint of caution.
The third figure remained silent, his gaze shifting between Eric, Daina, and the assassin.
“Something is wrong,” he finally said.
The other two glanced at him.
“The boy shouldn’t have survived that many attacks from an Ascended,” he continued.
“And that fox demoness appeared at exactly the right moment.” The three had sensed the waves of different mana signatures and had come to investigate.
Upon their arrival, they had found an Ascended from the Phoenix Clan clashing with an Awakened from the ruined Storm Clan.
They had refrained from interfering in the activities of the Phoenix Clan, despite the fact that the battle was taking place on their territory.
The first figure chuckled.
“We can let them finish.
If the Phoenix Clan destroys half the city while doing it, we’ll simply send them the bill.” The second figure shook his head.
“Assuming the assassin survives long enough to finish his job.” Their gazes returned to the battlefield.
To their amusement, the assassination was not going as the Ascended had intended.
The child of life simply refused to die.
No matter how many times the assassin tried to kill him, the boy continued to survive.
Just when he was about to deliver the finishing blow, a daughter of the Beast God had suddenly arrived and stopped him, completely changing the flow of the battle.
The first figure’s smile widened.
“Now this is getting interesting.” The second remained cautious.
“Interesting?
If that fox is truly a daughter of the Beast God, I’d rather not get involved.” The third continued studying Eric.
“Neither would I.
But I want to know why an Awakened from the Storm Clan is still standing.” Below them, Eric and Daina readied themselves for the inevitable clash with the assassin.
The assassin had also lost some of his previous confidence, though he remained certain that he would win.
