Lamar
I have always felt like I never belonged to this world that I live in. I am a chocolate 17 year old male with steel grey eyes, and a full muscular build. My hair is the color of gold which I have always thought was unusual for someone who looks like me, but hey who am I to question my unique looks.
I turn to look at the woman who raised me. “You are up early this morning,” she says as I bend down to kiss her on the cheek and accept the plate of bacon, eggs, and pancakes that she hands to me. I am her only child that I know of. She never wants to talk about her past with me and after a while I stopped asking her. In the back of my mind, I always wondered how she became my mother and what brought us to the current state of our lives together? I see a twinkle in her eyes as she looks at me with a look of love and winks in approval at my acceptance of the breakfast she has made us. I say this because I have yet to see her eat the many meals that she cooks for “us.” It makes me wonder what does she eat after after all of these years we have had together as mother and son. I glance at her blonde hair and olive skin tone and I think about how grateful that I am that she chose me to care for. The origins of my birth are still a mystery to me. I know that she has cared for me since I was an infant, but the details of my story she tends to keep to herself just like the origins of her former life almost 18 years ago.
Mystic
I look at my son and marvel at how much he has grown since I took him away many moons ago. He was so small and yet now he is 6’3”, so muscular and he has strength of ten men combined. I saved him from the cruel fate that his mother and father suffered on the night he was born. I was the midwife. At some point, I must tell him the story of his origin and who he must become, but I can not find the words to tell him. Perhaps I will have the courage to give him the history of his birth by the time he turns 18 in a couple of months, but for now I am content with the life that I have built for us.
Yes, I had a life before my son was born. I don’t like to talk about my former life to my son because it would reveal too much to Lamar and I have chosen for us to live a human life even though we are much more than human. I have kept us hidden from the supernatural world for almost 18 years, but soon there will be no way to keep Lamar hidden from his destiny.
