Isla had a full smile on her lips as she entered Logan’s penthouse.
The humiliation that her ex-mate just experienced made her feel happy.
Her heart thumped in excitement.
For the first time she was the one that was pushed in the mud.
She quickly dropped the things she brought in her room and prepared to cook.
She walked to the kitchen and the staff gave her a weird look.
“Ma’am?
What do you need?” One of the maids approached her.
“An apron.” Isla said with a smile on her face.
She was so happy that it radiated off her.
The maids looked at each other in surprise.
“But…we can do what you want and bring it to you.” The same maid spoke up.
Isla smiled and walked to the shelf pulling out an apron for herself.
“I’ll be fine, go ahead and do what you were doing.”
The maid nodded and walked back to kitchen island.
They all stared at the new member of the family.
One thought filled the minds, when did a member of the Vale family ever do any work?
They always got the staff to do the chores for them.
Isla ignored them all and got to work.
The event that happened earlier kept replaying for free in her head.
“I can’t believe that the bastard wanted us to get stuck.
He still thought we were helpless.” Serena scoffed at the back of her mind.
She stifled a giggle at the thought.
Isla was always the one cooking and cleaning back at the Spencer house so this was not a problem.
She hummed and cut the vegetables, poured the raw ingredients in the pot and started cooking.
The aroma of her meal filled the entire penthouse.
Even the maids salivated at it.
In about an hour she had filled the entire dining table with trays of food.
Not long after Logan returned from work and the aroma hit him from the door.
He followed the scent and found Isla seated on the dining table.
“You did this?” He gestured at the food on the table.
“Yup, I did.” She looked at his wide eyes.
“Is that surprising?”
“Yes, it is.” He leaned his weight against a chair.
“You should not be stressing yourself like this.
It is not good for our pup.”
“I’m not handicapped, I’m just pregnant.” She rolled her eyes at him.
“Your situation is still fragile.
You are carrying a baby and your body needs enough rest.”
“I can cook for even fifty people.”
“I can hire as many staff as possible to make sure that doesn’t happen.” He countered her.
“Stop arguing with me.
Sit down and have something to eat.” She urged him and he quietly did as she said.
The staff looked at each other with wide eyes.
No one ever told their Alpha what to do and he did it.
Now a little woman called the shots.
He dug into the food and his face furrowed.
Isla kept stealing glances at him.
“Is it that bad?”
“Not bad.”
“You’re trying to be nice.” Isla forced a chuckle.
“I don’t sugarcoat things.
This is really good.” His tone is calm and cool.
The staff couldn’t believe it.
Alpha Logan never told anyone anything really nice about a meal.
Isla gave him a genuine smile and continued to eat her meal.
For the first time since their contract marriage, something felt real between them.
They looked like a picture perfect family, having a meal.
They soon finished the meal and Logan left for another part of the penthouse.
Isla headed to her room.
She took a bath and dressed in the bathroom.
Her silk night dress held loosely against her body and her damp hair was draped against her shoulders.
She pulled open the bathroom door and gasped in mild surprise.
Logan was in her room, worse on her bed!
“I could eat this delicious man up.” Serena whistled at the back of her mind.
“Shut up.”
“But he looks so sweet.”
“Is there a reason you’re here?”
Logan’s eyes locked with hers and the hair on his skin rose in anticipation.
Her natural scent of vanilla and pine hit his nostrils.
He quickly shifted his gaze.
“The healer you met the first day, came over today.”
“Okay?”
“She said that our pup is really growing fast based on her last check up on you.”
“So?”
“To help with the healthy growth of our pup, we need to bond.”
Isla stilled at this.
Things were getting more complicated by the day.
“So you’re sitting on my bed because?” Her eyes filled his hands and he had a children’s book.
He waved the book.
“So we could spend time together, the three of us while I tell our pup a story.”
Isla couldn’t help how adorable he looked.
The almighty cold Alpha holding a colourful children book.
“What?” He demanded because of her long stare.
She chuckled out loud.
“You look adorable.”
He rolled his eyes at her.
“Time is ticking, come let’s start out with the book.
You know the healer even mentioned that the pup can recognise voices already.”
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah, so I want my pup to know my voice.
Now let’s start.”
Isla nodded and sat by him, she mistakenly brushed against him and a sharp electric feeling hit them both.
Logan cleared his throat and started reading the popular werewolf tale of the rejected cub that became a king.
He read it with so much emotion and it struck a chord in Isla’s heart.
Then she jolted in surprise.
Her baby kicked.
Her eyes widened.
“Logan, I think he can hear you.”
Logan looked confused and just stared at her.
She grabbed his hand and placed it against her belly.
He felt a light kick as it made him drop the book and placed his other arm on her belly.
Pure astonishment was written on his face.
“I will protect you, pup, with my life.” Logan said with conviction.
He then stared at Isla in the eyes.
“And you too.”
They started pulling towards each other just before their lips touched, Logan regained his senses and quickly pulled away.
“Have a great night’s rest.” He murmured and walked out.
Both of them laid with lingering thoughts of each other.
Could this be more than just a contract marriage?
