Four days later Isla was discharged from the hospital.
Logan had disappeared after the argument, only coming back at intervals to make sure she was okay.
Isla soon got back to the penthouse and there was still a lot of tension.
Logan had gone to pick her up himself.
Once she got past the sitting room the sight before her made her gasp.
A comfy looking workstation was set up.
She walked closer to the table and lifted the files on it.
There were research files, journals, equipment needed for video conferences.
Logan gave her everything that she needed but didn’t permit her to go back to work.
Isla turned towards him and he raised an eyebrow at her.
“What is this about?” She enquired.
He shrugged his shoulders.
“We agreed that you would work but not from the office.
You can work from home.”
“You can’t control my every move!” Isla’s voice was laced with irritation.
“I’m not controlling you.
I’m trying to keep you safe.
Someone wants to hurt you badly.
Never underestimate these people.”
“I’m not underestimating them.
I just don’t see the reason why I should cower.”
The argument started escalating.
Now, no one wanted to calm down.
The staff in the house disappeared in seconds.
No one wanted to be caught in the cross fire.
Isla banged her fist against the table.
“You have no idea how hard I worked just to be noticed one day.
Now that I’ve finally gotten it, you won’t make me give it up.”
“I will not have you putting the life of our pup in danger.”
Isla growled and walked out as fast as she could.
She couldn’t stand this nonsense.
How dare he think that he could control her every move.
She walked into her room and banged the door hard.
“I think you should calm down, Isla.” Serena spoke up with a calm voice.
“Why?
He wants to control me.
He started acting like he didn’t mind me working but now I’m not so sure.”
Serena groaned and hit her head on an imaginary wall.
“You’re just being stubborn.
He wants us safe.
He cares about the pup too.”
“But….”
“Aren’t you scared?
Will you want to go back to that place without them finding out who did this?
What if the person comes for you again?
What if you’re not so lucky next time?”
Isla went silent and pondered on what she said.
She quickly pulled off her clothes and sat on the bed wearing a short gown.
“Now is your head set straight?
You shouldn’t have lashed out like that.
I was so scared for you and the pup after the incident.” Serena’s voice was low and Isla realized that she was being unreasonable.
Isla heaved a sigh.
How would she go about this?
“I’m glad that you’re thinking straight now.
I think you both need to have a conversation.”
Isla just nodded and stood up, heading straight to Logan’s home office.
She knocked on his door.
“Come in.”
She pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Logan was surprised to see her.
“Do you need anything?” He asked politely.
“Do you not want me here?” She folded her arms, lifting an eyebrow at him.
“Not at all.
I’m just surprised you’re here.
You never come to see me here.”
She cleared her throat and walked closer to the table.
“I have a proposal.”
“I’m listening.” He dropped his glasses from his face and paid full attention to her.
“I accept to work from home.
I won’t do any fieldwork, or travel unnecessarily. Visit g.com for the full chapter.
Just don’t make this any worse for me.”
Logan was quiet and stared at her pointedly.
“Say something.” She urged with a pout.
“Well, I have just one little condition.”
“What is that?”
“Report to me daily.”
Isla scoffed and laid back on the chair.
“I’m not some child, I can take care of myself.”
“You will do as I say.” He gritted his teeth.
“You can’t make me.” She countered.
He placed his hands on his face.
This woman will be the end of him.
She has no idea how he almost went feral at the sight of her motionless on the hospital bed.
He couldn’t bring himself to tell her that though.
“For the sake of our pup, do this.”
“Whatever.” Isla answered and stood up from the chair.
“Is that a yes?” He called out before she walked outside.
“Yes, it is.” She shut the door behind her.
Isla went to her work station and turned on her laptop.
She realised that she had a lot of tasks waiting for her.
She didn’t waste any time and immersed herself in the tasks left for her to do.
She went at it for hours without even realizing it.
She saw the place getting dark and checked the time.
It was about 6pm.
Her phone began to ring and she checked the screen.
She didn’t have this number saved.
She contemplated picking it up and finally did.
“Hello.”
A sniffle and sob made her furrow her eyebrows in confusion.
“Who is this?”
“It’s me, Isla.”
Her heart sank at the voice.
She thought that she was done with the Spencers.
Why the hell was her step mother calling her?
“Why are you calling me, Melinda?”
“It’s….it’s your father.”
“He’s not my father.” Isla said in annoyance.
“He had a stroke.”
