Isla jolted awake and her hands flew to her belly.

“My pup.” She whispered with a croaky voice.

The stinging memory of what happened hit her like a truck.

The hallway.

Just by the stairs.

The force, someone did it.

She felt the hard shove.

Someone orchestrated this madness.

“The pup is safe.” Logan’s deep, soothing voice made her push her eyes open.

She whipped her head in his direction, her eyes locked with his.

She looked down at her bulging belly and heaved a sigh of relief.

She peered around the room that they were in and it was a hospital room.

A well equipped one at that.

It reeked of wealth.

“You’re here.” She said and had a good look at him.

He looked tired with eyebags around his eyes.

His usually sharp look wasn’t there today.

The clothes on his body were wrinkles and some buttons undone.

She intentionally avoided staring too hard at that.

Her eyes soon connected with Logan’s and she saw a look of pure rage in it.

It was like he was barely able to control himself.

“What happened?”

She heaved a sigh.

“I had just closed for the day and headed outside.

I dialled the number of the driver you had assigned to me and was about to go down the staircase when I felt a hard push.

Someone pushed me down and I wasn’t expecting it so I just…..fell.”

Logan’s wolf, Draken, growled in pure rage. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.

“I was hoping that it would not be this.

I was really hoping that it was just an accident.”

Logan’s chest rumbled as he growled.

“Can you remember who pushed you?

Even a scent.”

Isla went quiet and tried to search her memories if she could find anything but could find nothing at all.

She tried harder but a blinding pain shot through her skull.

She groaned and Logan inched closer to her.

“What’s wrong?”

“I just can’t remember who did it.

I only felt the push but nothing else.

Everything after that was so fuzzy.”

Logan stared at her.

“Don’t push yourself too hard.

I just wanted to try because the CCTV cameras did not pick up anything relevant.”

“What?

But there are cameras all over the place.”

“The edge where the person stood to carry out the atrocity was a blind spot.”

She went still at his words.

They both had the same haunting thoughts.

Someone had carefully planned this evil act.

It was too good to be a mistake.

A gentle push to the door broke the silence.

A woman with a lab coat walked inside with a little smile on her face.

She looked middle-aged and had some white streaks in her hair.

The doctor smiled at her and placed the kit she had in her hands on the bedside table.

“Let me examine you a bit.”

She examined Isla for some minutes then nodded to herself.

“Well, I’m happy to announce to you both that you’re fine.

Your pup as well.”

Isla heaved a sigh that she didn’t know she was holding.

The creases around Logan’s eyes straightened and he looked at ease.

The news gladdened the couple but the doctor’s expression turned serious.

“Ma’am, I would advise that you stay away from anything that would stress you, either physically or mentally.

You need to be well rested for the sake of your baby’s safety.

Today was a close call.”

“I will do that, thank you.”

The doctor walked out and left them alone.

There was lingering silence for a while then Logan finally spoke up.

“You’re leaving that job.”

Isla heard him but couldn’t believe her ears.

“What did you say?”

“I said that you’re leaving that job!” He said with a stern tone.

Her blood boiled at his words.

“That will never happen!”

“Someone wants to hurt you!

You were targeted.”

“Hiding like some coward will not save the situation either.”

Logan was slowly losing control.

How could she not see that he was doing this for the baby’s safety, and hers?

“Your top priority should be the baby in your belly.”

“Have you even spared a thought about me?”

“What do you mean by that?”

“It is all about the baby.

What about my goals, my dreams, the work I’ve put in so far?”

Logan fell short of words.

He had nothing to say about that.

“You know, all my life I’ve been downplayed to be nothing more than a useless Omega.

For once I felt seen and you expect me to just leave all that.”

“Your ambition is not more important than our pup.” His sharp words cut deeper than knives.

Isla paused then chuckled darkly.

“I know I’ve only been a baby carrier to you, nothing more.”

“It’s not….”

“Don’t bother explaining.

You’ve made that clear from the beginning.”

This was a clear misunderstanding and Logan chose to be quiet.

He knew that if he continued to talk then it might escalate.

Isla laid back on the bed and ignored him humming a song to herself.

He stood up and walked out of the room to give her some space.

His feet did not make a sound in the long hallway.

He picked up his phone and called his Beta.

“Alpha.” The man answered on the end of the phone.

“I am certain now that someone has pushed my wife down the staircase and she felt it.

Make sure you investigate everyone in that institute.

Leave no stone unturned.

From the most important person to the least.”

“It will be done, Alpha.”

“Good.” Logan ended the call and chose to sit at the reception of the hospital.

He was livid that someone dared to touch Isla and he would make them pay.
