Isla’s heart thumped hard against her chest.
The air suddenly felt suffocating.
Now she knew why her instincts told her otherwise but she was so stubborn.
She felt so stupid.
Despite the years of neglect and torture by her father she still came when she heard that he was dying.
Melinda chuckled and leaned against the wall.
“You were always so easy to predict.
Your so-called good heart was always just stupid.”
Those words stung Isla and fury made sheep blood boil.
The curtain by the side of the room moved, Caspian and Hilda walked out with smirks on their faces.
“You lied to me!” Isla spat at Melinda.
Hilda rolled her eyes at this.
“We knew that this would be the only thing that would make you agree to come.”
Isla gritted her teeth in anger.
They tricked her here, she had cut off every tie she had with the family.
But the years of their ill treatment towards her hit her like bricks.
They almost sold her to the bastard, Alpha Reid.
Hilda went ahead to steal her ex-mate, Coel.
“How dare you?” Isla screamed and her eyes shone.
“Just shut up.” Melinda taunted.
“You have always been easy to bait, foolish girl.”
Isla turned towards the door and tried pulling it open but it didn’t budge.
“Let me out of here, you bastards!” She shook the handle but it was no good.
“It’s funny that you think it would be so easy to leave.
We have unfinished business.” Caspian said, pulling a chair from the side of the room and taking a seat.
Isla took deep breaths to calm herself down.
“We need to think fast, I know these idiots have nothing good up their sleeves.” Serena said at the back of Isla’s mind.
“I am so sorry that I didn’t listen to you.” Isla responded.
“This is not the time.
You were being humane unlike them. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.
Just keep talking to them, let me think.” Serena added.
Isla turned towards Caspian who gave her a cold look.
“Why did you bring me here?” She asked him pointedly with no emotion in her voice.
Caspian looked surprised.
“I see that you have grown a backbone now.”
Isla looked around for an escape route but to her disappointment two burly men walked inside from a door by the side.
They looked dangerous and watched her with eyes like hawks.
The door looked like the wall and she didn’t even realise that it was there.
“Why are they here?
What is going on?” Isla asked no one in particular.
“We just want to have a family meeting.” Hilda said in a sugary voice.
“Then let me out.
We can talk outside or on the phone.” Isla answered with urgency.
They all went silent staring at her.
This was definitely much more than a conversation.
“You are all running mad!” Isla added.
“Really?
I think we are as sane as we could ever be.
We have a preposition to make.” Caspian spoke and soon everyone’s eyes went to her protruding belly.
She followed their gaze and realized that this wasn’t even about her but about the baby she was carrying in her belly.
She instinctively used her hands to cover her belly though it was of no use.
“I see you’re getting smarter by the day.
The baby is obviously our concern.” Melinda chuckled darkly.
“What do you mean by that?” Isla asked in confusion.
“You’ve always been a slow one.” Melinda rolled her eyes at her.
“You are carrying Logan Vale’s seed.”
“And so?” Isla growled. New chapters come out on g.com first.
“And so?” Melinda scoffed.
“Do you have any idea what it would be for us?” Her greed seeped out of each word.
“It will do nothing for you.” Isla answered defensively.
“It will be of good to us.
It guarantees us wealth and power.”
“They haven’t changed a bit.
It was always about what they would get and not about anything else, greedy lots.” Serena growled in annoyance.
“So you brought me here as leverage?” Isla scoffed in disappointment.
“I can’t believe that I felt you people could be any better.
I gave you too much credit.”
“You’re being dramatic.
We needed you here and that was the best idea we could think of.”
“What do you want?” Isla heaved in exasperation.
“A few favours from that husband of yours.” Melinda said in a sing-song voice.
Isla paused for some moments and burst in a fit of laughter.
“Something funny?” Caspian asked in irritation.
“Well, it’s funny that you think Logan will give you any favours.” Isla finally spoke up.
“You think he has a choice?” Melinda raised an eyebrow in question.
Isla went still with a thoughtful look on her face.
“What are you planning?”
“Now you’ve asked the right question.
You are the leverage.
You’re the one that we would use to get favours from him.” Hilda said with a sweet smile.
They all had sick smiles on their faces that unsettled Isla.
“How do you even plan on forcing his hand?”
“If we tell you it will ruin the surprise, don’t you think?” Caspian clapped his hands like a kid about to open a Christmas present.
“Whatever you’re planning won’t work?”
Caspian’s eyes turned dark.
“It would be smarter for you to cooperate.
We wouldn’t want anything to happen to your baby, you know.” His gaze fell to her belly again.
Isla realised that this was much more sinister than what she initially thought.
She needed to get out and fast.
