Good Person

Lang Zhan pulled a leather-wrapped object from the stone jar. Inside was a pale red, translucent crystal about the size of an egg.

Bai Lou thought the crystal looked familiar. It wasn’t until he saw Lang Zhan bite off a piece of meat and expertly lick the crystal that he finally remembered what it was.Full novel: The Kitten Was Coveted by a Wolf King — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

It was a salt stone, commonly used on Blue Star to replenish the salt levels of animals.

While they were indeed animals, eating salt stones was perhaps a local custom.

But looking at the meat skewers sprinkled with sea salt and Lang Zhan licking the salt stone, Bai Lou bit his lip, feeling a strange, tingling sensation in his chest.

“You eat!”

Lang Zhan looked at the roasted meat shoved in front of him, then turned to Bai Lou in surprise. Bai Lou was staring at him expectantly, his expression seemingly unhappy.

Lang Zhan didn’t understand Bai Lou’s emotions. In the tribe, having salt stones to eat was considered a good thing and most beastmen relied on the blood of their prey to replenish their salt levels.

This sea salt was something his father had specially bought for his parents.

He assumed Bai Lou was upset he hadn’t eaten the grilled meat Bai Lou had specially prepared.

“I don’t need this. The grilled meat is delicious, and not fishy at all,” Lang Zhan said awkwardly, trying to comfort and praise him. “You’re amazing.”

Bai Lou glared at him angrily. “Eat!”

Ever since meeting Lang Zhan, he’d been timid. This was the first time Lang Zhan had seen him show such a temper.

He looked kind of cute when he glared, and Lang Zhan couldn’t help but think.

Seeing the stubbornness in Bai Lou’s eyes, Lang Zhan didn’t refuse anymore. He put the grilled meat back on the rack and took the skewer from Bai Lou to eat.

Bai Lou’s lips curled up slightly. He rubbed his chest, finally feeling better.

Having prepared his own roasted meat, Bai Lou ate while asking, “Zhan, what do you do with the hides and bones of the dragon beasts after finishing their meat?”

Without the bitterness of the salt, the roasted meat instantly tasted delicious.

Lang Zhan ate heartily, pondering how to exchange it for some sea salt. He wouldn’t eat sea salt after this meal, but what was left wouldn’t be enough for Bai Lou and Lang Tu until the next market.

“Dragon beast hides are too tough and don’t keep you warm. We usually bury them somewhere a bit far away.”

“Then can I have them? I… I’ve never touched them before. I want to look at them more. After I’ve looked at them enough, I’ll bury them.”

Bai Lou’s words were a little hesitant. He hadn’t originally intended to take the dragon beast scales as they were Zhan’s spoils. But now Bai Lou thought that if he could sell them for salt, Zhan and Lang Tu wouldn’t lack salt anymore.

Lang Zhan didn’t ask any further questions and readily agreed.

“Once my hand heals, I’ll help you remove the hide and bones. Actually, the legs aren’t very nice, but the teeth are nice to collect. Some dragon beasts have bone spurs on their backs, those are pretty too. I’ll get them for you next time I hunt one.”

Many people are curious about such powerful creatures as dragon beasts, and quite a few people in the wolf tribe have collected dragon beast bones and scales.

Bai Lou nodded, his beautiful cat eyes curving into a charming arc.

Lang Zhan’s beast form was enormous and ferocious in battle. His human form, though handsome, had sharp features and a perpetually cold expression.

Yesterday, Bai Lou was somewhat afraid of him, but now, Bai Lou felt that Zhan might just look fierce and actually be a good person.
