Dinner

Bai Lou didn’t understand these things. His knowledge of this place was insufficient, and the preciousness of food was merely a vague concept to him. On Blue Star, it was normal for other people’s children to come and play, receiving snacks or even a meal.

He used animal hide as a liner to remove the earthenware pot and used a spoon to scoop the lard inside into another pot.Full novel: The Kitten Was Coveted by a Wolf King — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The Lang Zhan family only had one of these shallow, large earthenware pots and were meant to be used as cooking pots, not for storing anything.

When only a thin layer of oil remained in the pot, Bai Lou placed it back on the campfire, added the sliced meat, and stir-fried it until it was just cooked through. He then added scallions, sprinkled in salt, and quickly stir-fried it again.

A fragrant aroma of scallions wafted from the pot. Lang Tu’s stomach rumbled. It looked down at the oil residue in the stone bowl and it seemed to have cooled down.

It lowered its head and licked two pieces into its mouth. The oil residue was fried until crispy, and with each bite, its mouth was filled with a delicious, crispy flavor.

Lang Tu’s eyes widened, his tongue twitching repeatedly, unwilling to swallow.

Bai Lou glanced at the food and said, “You two eat quickly, it won’t taste good when it gets cold.” The fried pork lard would become soft when cold.

“It’s alright, eat up.” Lang Zhan knew what Lang Bai was thinking, seeing the chubby boy pawing at the food with longing, and said.

As if receiving a royal decree, Lang Bai eagerly plunged his mouth into the stone bowl. Then, like Lang Tu, he became a dazed wolf.

Lang Bai had never eaten anything so delicious before. It was fragrant and crispy, with a hint of saltiness, which perfectly balanced the greasiness of the fried pork cracklings, leaving only a mouthful of fragrance.

The thinly sliced dragon beast meat cooked quickly. This kind of stir-fried meat couldn’t be cooked for too long, otherwise it would become tough. Although beastmen’s teeth didn’t care about the texture—Lang Zhan was a wolf that could bite through dragon beast scales—Bai Lou still thought this dish should be tender.

Bai Lou ladled the vegetables into a large stone bowl, added some oil and salt, then picked up a large egg and gently tapped it against the edge of the stone slab, cracking the shell.

He then pried open the shell with both hands, letting the yolk and white fall into the earthenware pot.

He cracked in two more eggs, stirring the yolk and white together. The mixture turned golden, then quickly became an enticing pale yellow under the hot oil.

After a quick stir-fry, he added the remaining scallions. The two wolf cubs sniffed contentedly, and even Lang Zhan couldn’t resist glancing at the pot.

He knew eggs were delicious—tender, smooth, and not fishy—a favorite of females and cubs, but he hadn’t known that beast eggs smelled so good when fried in oil. It was a delicate aroma, different from roasted meat, making Lang Zhan eagerly anticipate the meal.

Since there were two pots of vegetables, it wasn’t convenient to eat by the campfire, so Bai Lou moved everything to the stone table in the living room.

The two wolf cubs, completely captivated by the aroma of fried pork lard and stir-fried vegetables, followed Bai Lou closely.

Lang Zhan went outside, tore off a large leaf, washed it, and laid it on the table. Bai Lou placed the roasted lemon meat on top, and the two wolf cubs obediently sat in one corner of the table. Bai Lou had placed a piece of animal hide there, not worried about them getting the table dirty.

This was the scene that greeted Lang Quan and Lang Yue when they entered.

The door was ajar. Lang Quan called out from outside and, receiving permission from Lang Zhan, came in. He stood at the doorway, staring blankly at the sumptuous meal on the table and Bai Lou sitting nearby.

Lang Yue was also taken aback, then looked at her son, who was squatting there waiting to eat, with a slightly embarrassed expression. The little chubby boy also seemed a bit dazed, almost forgetting that he wasn’t there to eat and that his parents were supposed to take him home.

“What’s wrong?” Lang Zhan asked Lang Quan.

Lang Quan hesitated for a moment, then shook his head, saying helplessly, “It’s nothing.”

Lang Yue went over and picked up his cub, smiling sheepishly.

“I’ve come to pick up Lang Bai.” He glanced at Bai Lou beside him and couldn’t help but ask, “Is this Bai Lou?”

Bai Lou was a little conflicted. He felt he should invite guests to eat with him, but the meat and eggs were Lang Zhan’s spoils while the scallions and lemons were his.

Even he, who relied on cooking to get a free meal and sleep at Lang Zhan’s place, didn’t seem to have the right to invite others to eat.

Hearing Lang Yue’s question, Bai Lou smiled at him. “Yes!” He remembered Lang Yue as it was Lang Yue who grilled the meat for him last night. Hmm… although it wasn’t very tasty, he still wanted to thank him.

Lang Yue held his son, who was constantly squirming and trying to see the food on the table, his gaze sweeping over Bai Lou, Lang Zhan, and Lang Quan.

Lang Quan had heard that Lang Zhan had traded dragon beast meat for fatty meat and found it strange. He was also worried that Lang Zhan’s injury made cooking difficult, so he wanted to see if he needed help.

But now… Lang Yue swallowed hard. The dishes on the table not only looked delicious, but also smelled incredibly fragrant.

Especially that pale yellow dish dotted with green and white leaves—what was that? Lang Yue couldn’t recognize it, only feeling a unique aroma he’d never smelled before wafting into his nostrils.

Lang Zhan definitely didn’t have that skill, so it was obvious who had made it.

How could Bai Lou, a beastman, cook such fragrant food? And… Lang Yue couldn’t help but look closely at Bai Lou’s face again. He was so handsome, even more beautiful than the female foxes.

Apart from the constantly fluttering Lang Bai, the group remained silent. Lang Quan and Lang Yue kept glancing at him. Bai Lou felt the atmosphere was a bit awkward and looked expectantly at Lang Zhan, “Say something!”

Lang Zhan, who was frowning, relaxed his brows slightly upon seeing Lang Yue’s expression and said coldly, “Anything else?”

“Oh, nothing, nothing,” Lang Yue said, snapping out of his daze, his face flushing. “Oh no, I actually stared at a beastman so intently! If Kai finds out, he’ll be furious.”

Lang Quan snapped out of his daze, gave a gentle smile to Bai Lou, who was looking at Lang Yue and him with a mixture of embarrassment and curiosity, and said, “Then, Tribe Leader, Bai Lou, we’ll be going now.”

Lang Zhan nodded. Seeing that he didn’t seem inclined to stand on ceremony, Bai Lou reluctantly got up and saw them to the door.

Back at the table, Lang Tu was staring intently at the dishes, while Lang Zhan seemed indifferent, his eyes constantly glancing at the table.

Bai Lou smiled and scooped a spoonful of scrambled eggs into Lang Tu’s bowl. “Let’s eat!”

The eggs were fragrant and tender, the lemon-roasted pork was refreshing and not greasy, and the stir-fried pork with scallions was tender and juicy, the scallions slightly charred, giving it a unique caramelized flavor.

The two men and the wolf were completely satisfied with the meal. Lang Tu’s little belly was round and noticeably full. Only after finishing the meal did he realize his stomach was rumbling. He tried his best to hide it, and felt a little embarrassed.

Bai Lou washed the pots and pans, stretched, and then moved a stone bench to sit against the stone wall, sprawling out like a cat.

Comfortable!
