A few days ago, Yan Xiao had intercepted her at the train station and brought her here. Now, where was he taking her?
“Today is my wedding. The whole city should know,” he said.
Yan Xiao opened the car door for her to get in before taking his own seat.
The car slowly started, leaving the bustling streets of Liangzhou behind.
Along the way, townspeople stopped to watch, whispering and speculating about this sudden convoy.
Inside, Shen Wan stared expressionlessly out the window, pretending not to notice Yan Xiao sitting beside her, ignoring all the commotion around them.
Yan Xiao leaned slightly, “If your father and mother were still alive, they’d be happy to see you marry me.”
Shen Wan shot him a cold glance. “My father and mother wouldn’t interfere with my marriage. If they were still alive, the first day you harassed me three years ago, they would have thrown you out immediately.”
Her parents…
Would have only allowed her to marry the one she loved.
Looking at the crowded streets, she was about to marry a man she didn’t love.
Wasn’t it painful? Of course it was.
“Bang!”
The sudden gunfire shattered the lively street scene.
Yan Xiao dove toward Shen Wan, shielding her beneath him.
Bullets rained down on the car like heavy rain, shattering the windows and violently shaking the vehicle.
“The General they really made a move!”
Yan Xiao pressed her down. “Stay low, don’t move. I’ll take care of this quickly.”
Shen Wan curled up in the car, trembling and clutching her head…
He stepped out with his gun, his only thought to eliminate the attackers quickly and return to comfort his little cat.
He had anticipated someone trying to strike during his wedding today.
Yan Xiao couldn’t bear to let Shen Wan be in danger, even if it meant putting himself at risk.
But he also wanted the whole city to know how he felt about marrying Shen Wan.
Shen Wan’s fear of gunfire came from the shadow left by her parents’ deaths, and Yan Xiao knew this.
Fortunately, he had prepared in advance…
Gunfire continued, chaos erupted in the streets.
Yan Xiao’s guards clashed fiercely with the assassins.
After an unknown amount of time, the gunfire finally ceased.
Yan Xiao returned to the car and lifted Shen Wan, still in her white gown, onto his lap.
“It’s over. No need to be afraid anymore.”
Shen Wan suddenly lifted her head, locking eyes with Yan Xiao, pushing away his face. “We’ve already signed the papers, the marriage registrars stamped them why are you out here?!
You knew this would happen! Are you trying to use me as bait? Or do you want Zhou Yan to find out that you married me?!”
Yan Xiao gripped her wrists as she flailed against his chest. “Shen Wan, don’t let me hear another man’s name from your mouth! As my woman, sooner or later you’ll face these things. You need to get used to it.”
His grip tightened, causing her pain.
Shen Wan struggled but remained defiant. “I will call his name Zhou Yan, Zhou Yan, Zhou Yan! I won’t get used to it! I have no interest in your world or your life! If you truly loved me, you wouldn’t drag me into this mess!”
She tried to get off his lap, but he held her firmly.
Her voice rose with anger. “Yan Xiao!”
Seeing her no longer frightened, Yan Xiao finally loosened his hold and placed her back in the seat.
“That’s better,” he said with a smile. “If it comes from your mouth, it should be my name.”
Shen Wan turned her face toward the window, refusing to speak.
Yan Xiao’s guards stayed behind to deal with the bodies in the street while he got into the driver’s seat.
Though the car windows were shattered, it was still drivable.
With both hands on the steering wheel, Yan Xiao spoke to Shen Wan behind him. “But there’s one thing I’m really curious about. That kid from the Zhou family when you two met before, you only wandered the streets together, read books, drank sweet soups, not even holding hands. Did you really love Zhou Yan?”
