“Ah!” Shen Wan cried out, and the train ticket and her luggage scattered across the ground.

Her heart clenched violently, as if gripped by an invisible hand.

Terrified, she turned around and saw Yan Xiao standing there in a black long robe, his face dark with an almost terrifying intensity. His eyes burned with a furious fire, as if they could consume her entirely.Full novel: The lady was extremely difficult to please. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Trying to run?” Yan Xiao ground out through clenched teeth, the words icy cold, making the surrounding air feel frozen.

Shen Wan paled at his sudden appearance, struggling to steady herself.

“I…” she opened her mouth, but no words came.

How could she have forgotten…

The Governor of Liangzhou held military power; there were surely soldiers stationed near the train station.

By showing up here as a target under Yan Xiao’s watchful eye, wasn’t she practically declaring to him that she was trying to escape?

“Now you’re scared, huh?” Yan Xiao sneered. He grabbed her wrist with such force it felt as if he could crush her bones. “I told you already you can’t get away!”

Shen Wan winced in pain from his grip but didn’t dare struggle. She bit her lip and stubbornly turned her face away.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Seeing her like this only fueled his anger further. He yanked her directly in front of him, forcing her to meet his gaze.

Shen Wan had no choice but to tilt her head back, staring at this domineering and dangerous man, filled with humiliation and fury.

She wanted to argue, to shout but in the end, she could only close her eyes in helplessness.

Yes… she couldn’t escape.

Seeing her like this, so vulnerable, Yan Xiao’s anger only grew stronger.

He hoisted her onto his shoulder, ignoring the astonished gazes around them, and strode toward the exit of the train station.

“Yan Xiao! Let me go!” Shen Wan was startled by his roughness and struggled violently, but he held her firmly against him, leaving her unable to move.

“Behave!” Yan Xiao roared, quickening his pace.

He carried her all the way to a black car parked by the roadside, roughly shoved her inside, and then got in himself.

Shen Wan sat in the car, still in shock, watching the scenery fly past outside the window, her heart sinking with despair.

“Yan Xiao, what do you want from me?” she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and turned to look at the man beside her, her voice trembling slightly despite her effort to keep it steady.

Yan Xiao ignored her and coldly instructed the driver to start the car.

The vehicle quickly left the noisy train station behind, heading toward the outskirts of the city.

All the way, neither spoke a word.

After an unknown amount of time, the car finally stopped in front of a grand European-style villa.

“Get out.” Yan Xiao ordered coldly.

Shen Wan hesitated for a moment, but ultimately got out obediently.

She looked up at the unfamiliar, luxurious villa before her, her heart tight with unease.

This was the Governor’s residence Yan Xiao’s home.

Yan Xiao said expressionlessly, “From today onward, you’ll be living here.”

The sun set, and the last light of the day was swallowed by night.

Inside the Governor’s residence, lights blazed, isolating the interior from the outside world, giving it an air of strict severity.

Shen Wan paced back and forth in the dim room. Two nights had passed since she had been confined here, unable to go anywhere.

The windows were sealed tightly, heavy curtains blocking everything outside.

Knock knock.

The sound of knocking made Shen Wan’s heart skip. She quickly turned toward the door.
