Everyone looked outside and saw two soldiers pushing through the crowd.
"Excuse me! Please make way!"
It turned out to be Han Xiao and Chen Liang who entered.
"Chief of Staff Xu!"
The two saluted Chief of Staff Xu, who had a dark expression, and then Han Xiao spoke:
"Chief of Staff Xu, we are here to explain to everyone that Comrade Song Ning, yesterday morning, in order to save a child, risked her life and jumped into the mudslide alone, and luckily escaped!
We searched for nearly eight hours yesterday before finding her seven kilometers away from Yanjiao Village. After sending her to Gaoping last night, we went to repair the road. This morning, we heard some negative remarks about her from the medical team, so we came specifically to clarify!"
Chen Liang, who spoke little, added at this moment:
"Commander Gu instructed that she should be injured and needs rest."
Silence fell over the room again.
Jumped into a mudslide alone?
Saved a child?
Swept away by the mudslide for seven kilometers?
This girl, so frail, did something so earth-shattering, and didn't mention a word when she returned?!
And yet, this Chen Yuting was still here making a scene unreasonably!
Insisting she apologize!
Demanding she care about the "family member's" mood!
She was already not a likable girl, and now, no matter how they looked at her, they found her displeasing...
Zheng Changan had brought Song Ning's bag over. At this moment, he couldn't help but regret it. He only knew Song Ning was swept away, but he didn't know she was saving someone...
Moreover, he had even forgotten to ask if she was injured?
Alas! Being this younger brother was truly unqualified...
Seeing that no one was speaking, Han Xiao asked again:
"By the way! Comrade Song Ning! I inquired for you! Comrade Lu Changqing is in Gaoping. I heard he was injured. Have you met him yet?"
As soon as this was said, everyone present was stunned!
Including Song Ning.
Alright! She had just been thinking about how to appropriately reveal her "hidden identity."
Unexpectedly, these two comrades suddenly appeared, and as soon as they arrived, they established her "value," elevating her image, and then they said what she needed to say. In this situation, should she consider changing her "persona"?
Thinking of this, she pinched her thigh hard...
Everyone turned their gazes to Song Ning, only to find that Song Ning, who had been talking animatedly just now, had lowered her head at this moment...
"Han Xiao! What do you mean by that?"
Chen Yuting couldn't help but ask, "Why would she inquire about Lu Changqing?"
Han Xiao hadn't heard the previous conversation and didn't know that Chen Yuting and Lu Changqing already had a relationship where they called each other "family member." He inexplicably said:
"Comrade Song Ning came to find Company Commander Lu! She is Company Commander Lu's partner! She came to the military unit to get married!"
As soon as this was said, the room buzzed with excitement.
What a huge piece of gossip!
Here, Military Doctor Chen was calling her "family member" and "Brother Changqing" repeatedly!
But they didn't know that the person opposite was someone else's "marriage partner"!
This, this isn't clearly interfering with someone else's marriage!
With this kind of relationship, let alone breaking it off!
It would be good if they didn't stab someone twice!
Chen Yuting's face turned pale!
She shrieked:
"Impossible! How could you possibly be Changqing Ge's partner! You..."
"Silence—"
Chief of Staff Xu, unable to bear it any longer, slammed his hand on the table.
He had been called here overnight to clean up Chen Yuting's mess. He hadn't expected that not only was her conduct improper, but now, morally... she also had problems!
Chief of Staff Xu looked at Song Ning and softened his voice:
"Comrade Song Ning, is what Comrade Han Xiao said true?"
Only then did Song Ning slowly raise her head...
Everyone then noticed that the girl who had saved someone and returned without a word now had tears welling up in her eyes.
Her small, palm-sized face was pale and haggard. Compared to Chen Yuting's arrogant demeanor, everyone couldn't help but feel more sympathy for her.
Song Ning didn't speak. She took her bag from Zheng Changan, took out a plastic bag from inside, and layer by layer, unwrapped it. Finally, she handed two items to Chief of Staff Xu.
One was her letter of introduction, bearing the official seal of the Anping Public Security Bureau.
The other was the situation report issued by Director Hao, bearing the official seal of the Bijie County Government.
The letter of introduction stated her identity and origin.
The situation report explained the reason for her joining the medical team and repeatedly requested comrades from the Southwest Military Region to help her find her family members as soon as possible.
After reading them, Chief of Staff Xu was silent for a moment, then stood up and returned the two documents to Song Ning with both hands, solemnly assuring her:
"Comrade Song Ning, you have been wronged! We will definitely handle this matter properly!"
Chief of Staff Xu put his hands behind his back, paced a couple of steps in the room, and looked sharply at Chen Yuting, snorting coldly:
"Hmph! Family member?! Chen Yuting! How long are you going to continue this farce! Answer me truthfully! Did you know beforehand that Lu Changqing had a fiancée?"
Chen Yuting's face was filled with panic, "She, she is really Changqing Ge's fiancée? How, how is that possible?"
Chen Yuting looked at Song Ning. Changqing Ge had clearly said that woman was a village girl from the countryside, who probably didn't know many characters, didn't dare to speak loudly, and didn't dare to look up when walking. How could she be this woman with good looks and medical skills standing before her!
She pointed at Song Ning and said, "I don't believe it! If she is Changqing Ge's fiancée, why didn't she say so all along? Didn't she ask for Changqing Ge's name yesterday?"
Song Ning pinched her thigh again and looked up, tears about to fall from her eyes.
"Yesterday, Military Doctor Chen repeatedly stated she was the 'family member' and repeatedly expressed her concern for Company Commander Lu. You two were in love. In that situation, if I had acknowledged him, wouldn't that be... seeking humiliation?"
Saying this, she lowered her head, covered her face, and stopped speaking.
Her acting skills were limited, she could only act like this...
However, it couldn't withstand everyone's imagination. In everyone's eyes, she was already in immense pain!
Chief of Staff Xu said in a deep voice, "Enough! Chen Yuting! Do you still not recognize your mistake? You're still being aggressive! Regardless of whether Comrade Song Ning acknowledges it or not, you and Lu Changqing have serious problems with your personal conduct! The organization will deal with this matter seriously!"
"Chief of Staff Xu! We are in a free love relationship! Changqing Ge and she are in an arranged marriage! There is no emotional foundation! It doesn't count!" Chen Yuting blurted out.
"Nonsense—" Chief of Staff Xu shouted.
He stared at Chen Yuting for a few seconds and called out:
"Wang Ze!"
"Here!"
The guard who had been standing beside Chief of Staff Xu responded.
"Immediately report to the Military Region that Comrade Chen Yuting made a major mistake during the disaster relief mission and does not recognize her error, is shirking responsibility and concealing information, has a terrible attitude, refuses to repent, and along with Comrade Lu Changqing of the Seventh Regiment, violated organizational principles in their personal conduct, severely damaging the image of a soldier, with very bad influence. In view of the above, it is recommended that both be immediately suspended and dealt with seriously afterward!"
"Yes!" Wang Ze received the order, turned around, and walked out.
"No— no— Uncle Xu! I know I was wrong! Please! I beg you, please don't suspend us!"
Only then did Chen Yuting realize the seriousness of the situation and burst into tears.
