After more than an hour of back and forth, the emergency room door finally opened again, and Jiang Yi was wheeled out with an IV needle in his arm.
A doctor followed behind the bed.
Ying Xun impatiently followed along.
After wheeling Jiang Yi back to the ward and getting him settled, the doctor turned around and spoke to Ying Xun, “You’re the patient’s alpha, aren’t you?”
Hearing this, Ying Xun’s brows shot up, and he denied it coldly without a second thought, “No.”
“What do you mean, no? I can smell your pheromones on him.”
This was a top private hospital, and because the hospital was known for keeping things confidential, most of the people who came here for treatment were people of some status, many of them celebrities and entertainers.
Seeing Ying Xun wearing a mask, the doctor had already more or less guessed his identity.
The doctor comforted him gently, “Sir, there’s no need to rush to deny your relationship with the patient. Since you chose this hospital, you already know we absolutely will not leak a patient’s privacy.”
These words did nothing to soften Ying Xun’s expression, but his emotions were hidden under the mask, so the doctor didn’t notice.
The doctor continued carrying out his duties as a physician, instructing him, “The patient does have a high fever with convulsions. Fortunately he was brought in in time, if it had been another ten or so minutes, the situation could have gotten quite dangerous.”
Ying Xun said nothing, his face cold, only nodding politely in response.
“Based on the patient’s blood test results, the high fever is most likely caused by an inflammation flaring up in his body, and then getting caught in the rain on top of that triggered the convulsions. He’ll probably need to be hospitalized for about a week. Tonight we’ll start him on fever-reducing and anti-inflammatory medication, four bottles in total, two small and one large, with one of them being a flush line.”
Ying Xun listened absentmindedly, not taking the doctor’s words to heart at all.
Today, him bringing someone like Jiang Yi to the hospital already counted as an act of great mercy on his part.
As for how long Jiang Yi would need to stay in the hospital or how he’d be treated, none of that had anything to do with him.
After saying all that, Ying Xun still only nodded.
His indifferent attitude, showing no concern at all for the patient’s condition, couldn’t help but make the doctor frown, “Do you know about the wounds on the patient’s wrist?”
“No.”
This time, Ying Xun finally didn’t nod again, but his attitude was no warmer than before.
In the doctor’s mind, an image of Ying Xun instantly took clear shape, probably a “scumbag who doesn’t cherish what he’s got once he has it.”
The doctor felt a faint sense of injustice on Jiang Yi’s behalf, and his gentle expression immediately turned serious, his tone following suit, becoming stern, “As the patient’s alpha, how could you not even know about this?”
Hearing this, Ying Xun frowned again, instinctively wanting to argue back, but after thinking it over, he still said nothing.
He had no need to waste time on something like this.
“We suspect the patient has serious psychological problems. Several of the wounds on his wrist are quite deep, cutting through blood vessels, it’s clearly a suicidal wrist-cutting act. I hope that after the patient is discharged, you can take him to see a psychiatrist.”
A crack finally appeared in Ying Xun’s cold expression.
A few seconds later, his face returned to its usual indifferent, expressionless state, though his tone couldn’t hide the mockery and anger in it, “He really is sick in the head.”
“……”
The doctor was completely at a loss for words. He thought about saying something to condemn him, but then thought of his own professional ethics, and in the end didn’t say it out loud, only coldly gave a couple more instructions before leaving the ward.
“An omega who’s just been marked is more fragile both mentally and physically, especially when sick, they’ll feel very insecure and will urgently need the comfort of their alpha’s pheromones.”
The doctor’s words before leaving lingered in the ward, where only the sound of breathing could be heard, and it couldn’t help but draw a cold laugh from Ying Xun.
Fragile both mentally and physically?
Very insecure?
Wasn’t this exactly what Jiang Yi had brought on himself?
If he didn’t let Jiang Yi properly enjoy this feeling, how could that possibly live up to everything Jiang Yi had schemed to get?
This was still the first person who had dared to scheme against him, the only reason he hadn’t strangled Jiang Yi to death on the spot was thanks to the fact that they lived in a society governed by law.
And now he wanted comfort from him too?
Heh.
Ying Xun’s face carried both coldness and ruthlessness as he stared at that face he despised so much for a moment, anger churning endlessly in his chest.
Suddenly, he raised his foot and kicked the end of the bed hard.
With a “thud,” the person sleeping restlessly on the hospital bed curled up, letting out an uneasy, muffled groan.
He unconsciously shifted closer toward the direction Ying Xun was standing.
Ying Xun, not noticing at all, muttered another low curse, forcibly suppressed his emotions, turned, and lay down on the accompanying bed nearby, closing his eyes to pretend to sleep.
Twenty minutes later, a series of urgent beeps rang out from the IV monitor.
Ying Xun opened his eyes in annoyance, got up, walked to the head of the bed, and pressed the call bell.
Just as he was about to lie back down on the accompanying bed, a sudden pull came from the hem of his coat.
He looked down and saw that the face he despised had, at some point, come to rest against his thigh.
A pair of thin, pale, bony fingers was gripping tightly onto his coat, refusing to let go.
Once he took in what was happening, Ying Xun’s cold, clear eyes suddenly darkened, and his thick black brows furrowed as well.
He stepped back two large steps, trying to pull the hem of his coat free from Jiang Yi’s grip.
But he didn’t expect the other man to hold on so tightly that most of Jiang Yi’s body was pulled off the bed along with it.
“Mm, no, don’t go…”
The low, pleading voice of the uneasy person made Ying Xun’s face darken even further.
No longer caring about his psychological resistance to touching Jiang Yi, he reached out directly to pry Jiang Yi’s fingers loose.
“Let go, don’t be so shameless.”
Jiang Yi, unconscious and driven purely by physical need, seemed to be using every last bit of strength in his body, as if even if Ying Xun broke his fingers, he would still cling to Ying Xun’s coat without letting go.
And as Ying Xun stepped forward to pry his fingers apart, driven by physical need, Jiang Yi unconsciously pressed his face against Ying Xun’s chest, drawing in that small bit of comfort.
Just as the two of them were locked in this struggle, a knock suddenly sounded at the door.
The position was too unsightly and awkward, and Ying Xun suddenly felt there was no longer any need to keep struggling, the coat was already dirty anyway, so he might as well just take it off and give it to Jiang Yi.
In this second contest, Jiang Yi once again came out the total winner, holding onto the coat marked with Ying Xun’s pheromones and sleeping soundly.
When the nurse came in, she found Jiang Yi with half his body hanging off the side of the bed, and the fine cashmere coat was mostly on the floor, except for the part clutched in his hand.
The person on the accompanying bed had his eyes tightly shut, at first glance it looked rather touching, but thinking about it more, there was also something rather strange about it.
The nurse removed the empty bottle, replaced it with a new bag of medicine, scanned the code to log it, then bent down to pick up the coat that had fallen to the floor, carefully covering Jiang Yi with it and tucking the blanket in around him, before quietly stepping out of the ward.
The door was pulled shut, and the ward returned to silence once more.
Ying Xun opened his eyes and glanced coldly at the person on the bed across from him, only to see that person hugging his coat with an utterly satisfied look on his face.
Looking at it, he only felt disgusted.
Two hours later, once all the fluids had finished infusing, without even waiting for the nurse to finish removing Jiang Yi’s IV needle, Ying Xun stood up immediately and, without a moment’s delay, drove out of the hospital.
The next morning, when Jiang Yi woke up, he stared blankly at the pale ceiling for a good while, then turned his head to look around, only belatedly realizing where he was.
His last memory from the night before was the endless heavy rain falling on him, he’d even thought he might freeze to death in it.
He didn’t expect to actually be sent to the hospital.
Jiang Yi blinked wearily and tried to push himself up to sit with both hands on the bed, and only then did he notice the coat clutched in his hand.
The style and the scent were both far too familiar to him.
It was obvious enough who the kind soul was who had brought him to the hospital.
As for why this coat was in his hand, he didn’t need to think hard, he could more or less guess how things had gone last night.
Ying Xun despised him so much, there was no way he would have been willing to leave the coat with him, the only explanation was that he himself had refused to let go of it no matter what.
Heh.
What a disgusting thing to see.
