Every family has breakfast conversations, arguments, emotional damage, and one person trying unsuccessfully to maintain order.

Some families simply happen to command reality while doing it.

The estate carried a completely different atmosphere the following evening.Full novel: The Living Scripture: The World Unmasked – Arc 3 — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Warm laughter drifted across the gardens while music played softly beneath the glow of hanging lights and fire tables scattered around the outdoor entertainment area.

Smoke curled upward from the barbecue beside the pool where Adrian, Victor, and Leah had somehow formed an aggressively competitive cooking alliance that already looked moments away from collapse.

“You are burning the chicken,” Leah informed Victor calmly.

Victor pointed dramatically at Adrian instead.

“He weaponized constructive criticism.”

“I corrected your seasoning,” Adrian replied while turning meat across the grill with insulting confidence.

“There is a difference.”

“The difference currently tastes like smoke,” Leah muttered.

Around them, the rest of the team moved through setup naturally.

Samuel carried trays between tables while Samantha arranged drinks beside Naomi and Olivia.

Caleb somehow convinced Daniel to help him move outdoor couches three separate times for “better social positioning.”

Near the pool, chaos carried a much happier shape.

Jamey surfaced from beneath the water with a grin already forming before immediately grabbing Ethan and Elara together and shoving both beneath the surface.

The twins burst into silent giggles underwater.

The pool answered instantly.

Water exploded violently outward from around them in a massive circular wave that rushed across the surface hard enough to drench nearly everyone nearby before crashing back inward again with enough force to send Jamey stumbling backward through the shallow end.

“There it is,” Alec sighed from one of the loungers.

“I was wondering how long before the children weaponized happiness again.”

Israel sat safely against Seth’s chest near the shallow end while Max floated nearby beneath silver-blue reflections dancing across the water’s surface.

Sarah remained seated at the edge of the pool when the twins unleashed their silent water bomb, leaving her completely drenched beneath the violent spray that crashed across the entire entertainment area.

Water streamed from her hair, sleeves, and face while she blinked through the aftermath in stunned disbelief.

A few seconds later, she quietly scooted several inches closer to Max anyway.

Despite the chaos surrounding her, Sarah’s attention still followed Max constantly.

Every laugh, glance, or reassuring smile pulled another layer of tension from her expression while the fear lingering beneath the surface gradually loosened its hold.

Then the estate gates opened.

Master Dan’s vehicle rolled through the entrance and parked near the house.

A few moments later, Jason appeared down the pathway alongside two young women already taking in the sprawling estate with visible fascination.

Emily moved with bright, open curiosity, her warm expression carrying enough energy to brighten the entire garden.

Beside her walked a taller blonde woman with soft blue doe eyes and calm composure resting across her features like second nature.

Unlike Emily’s openly animated excitement, Grace carried a quieter presence.

Gentle attention seemed to move wherever she looked while the atmosphere along the pathway subtly softened around her steps.

“Perfect timing,” Jamey announced dramatically from the water.

“The food is only moderately dangerous.”

Victor pointed a barbecue tong toward the pool immediately.

“Continue speaking recklessly, and you lose plate privileges.”

Max glanced toward the entrance while pushing wet hair back from her face before finally moving toward the edge of the pool.

Water streamed down her skin beneath the soft garden lights while gold scripture flickered faintly along one shoulder.

Jason whistled immediately.

The reaction proved instant.

A wall of water slammed into him from four separate directions hard enough to soak him completely where he stood.

Seth moved first.

Jamey contributed enthusiastically.

Ethan and Elara attacked with terrifying joy while Alec literally dove into the pool solely to launch another wave directly into Jason’s face before sprinting back out again.

“What is wrong with all of you?” Jason sputtered through dripping hair.

“You whistled at my wife,” Seth replied calmly from the water.

Jason blinked once.

“Yes. Because she is objectively sexy.”

Another wave hit him directly in the chest.

“This family has issues,” he coughed.

“This family has standards,” Alec corrected while sprinting past, carrying a towel.

He reached Max moments later and wrapped it around her shoulders with the exhausted dedication of somebody who had accepted this responsibility years ago.

“You people treat me like I’m under witness protection,” Max muttered.

“You are,” Alec replied immediately.

“From idiots.”

Jason lifted both hands defensively.

“I complimented her.”

“You survived the compliment,” Seth answered.

“Be grateful.”

Meanwhile, Emily laughed so hard she nearly doubled over beside Master Dan while Grace’s softer, elegant laugh followed moments later, warm and effortless beneath the late afternoon sunlight reflecting across the water behind them.

“Oh, I already love this place,” Emily admitted.

Max smiled warmly afterward and crossed toward them while drying her hair with the towel Alec had provided.

“Come sit near the barbecue before Victor declares war on seasoning again.”

“That already happened,” Adrian called from the grill.

“It is ongoing,” Victor corrected.

The comment earned a laugh from Emily as she followed Max toward the seating area.

Grace trailed beside her with the same quiet composure she seemed to carry naturally.

Once everyone settled, Emily tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and offered Max a bright smile.

“I’m Emily. Twenty-three. Born and raised in Ansville. I like music, baking, terrible action movies, and getting excited about things before I’ve properly thought them through.”

Jason nodded immediately.

“That explains a lot.”

“I choose to take that as a compliment.”

Max laughed softly.

“Well, Emily, we have time to figure out who you are personally.” She gestured toward the others gathered around the estate.

“Right now, though, I need to know what you bring to the group.”

“Fair enough.”

Emily straightened slightly.

“My gift is Harmonic Resonance. My aura stabilizes emotional pressure, calms panic, strengthens morale, and helps people stay grounded when things become overwhelming. Master Dan says I stop groups from emotionally imploding.”

“You make that sound far more professional than it usually is,” Jason said.

“That’s because I practiced.”

A few chuckles spread through the group.

Grace spoke before the laughter had fully faded.

“I’m Grace.”

Every eye shifted toward her.

“Layered barriers of spiritual light,” she continued calmly.

“I can shield people, structures, and concentrated areas. My barriers absorb force, stabilize unstable energy, and create spaces where fear struggles to spread.”

Silence followed for a moment.

Victor blinked.

“You stop panic. She builds magical bunkers.”

“Essentially,” Grace agreed.

“Good,” Victor said.

“One of you can save the world. The other can stop Adrian from criticizing my cooking.”

Interest immediately moved through portions of the group afterward.

Max leaned forward slightly.

“Show me.”

Grace smiled faintly before lifting her hand outward toward the open space near the pool.

Thin strands of pale gold and white light appeared instantly between her fingers like woven threads catching sunlight.

The strands expanded outward in smooth interlocking patterns before rising gently around a section of the poolside lounge.

A translucent dome formed moments later.

Warmth spread through the area immediately afterward.

Noise dulled slightly.

Even the atmosphere itself seemed calmer beneath the woven shield surrounding them.

Several people visibly relaxed without realizing it.

Jamey pointed toward her immediately from inside the pool.

“Oh, you are absolutely staying.”

Adrian slowly lowered the barbecue tongs in his hand.

Jamey’s eyes widened.

“Wait.”

The water around him shifted violently as he moved toward the edge of the pool with sudden purpose.

He climbed out fast enough to leave a trail of water across the stone before marching directly toward Adrian, snatching the tongs straight from his hand and shoving them into Andrew’s chest.

“Take over.”

Andrew blinked once while staring down at the weaponized responsibility suddenly forced upon him.

“I have never operated one of these.”

“Then today becomes educational,” Jamey replied.

“Also, do not ruin the food. Victor already violated several international treaties involving the chicken.”

“I heard that,” Victor shouted from the grill.

Jamey ignored him entirely before grabbing Adrian by the wrist and dragging him toward Max and Emily.

Adrian resisted just enough to appear dignified.

“You usually explain your terrible ideas first.”

“I am evolving as a person.”

“That sentence frightened me deeply.”

Jamey finally stopped beside Emily and Max before placing one hand against Adrian’s shoulder and the other against Emily’s.

Max immediately leaned forward in her seat.

“Jamey.”

“Trust the process.”

“That phrase historically leads to property damage.”

Jamey grinned suddenly before tightening his hold against both their shoulders.

“Adrian,” he said, already amplifying the power building beneath his palms, “everyone here is entirely too happy. Fix that.”

Several heads turned.

Victor narrowed his eyes.

“That sounds dangerous.”

“It is,” Jamey agreed.

Adrian sighed.

“I already dislike this.” This chapter is updated first at g.com.

“Do it.”

Silver pressure rolled outward from Adrian in smooth resonant waves.

His voice carried effortlessly through the gathering.

“Remember your failures.”

Nothing happened.

Then Victor froze.

His gaze drifted toward the grill.

Toward the chicken.

His expression collapsed.

“I tried so hard.”

A tear escaped.

“Victor?” Leah asked.

“The seasoning deserved better.”

Within seconds Victor was openly crying beside the barbecue.

“The chicken had so much potential.”

“You burnt it yourself,” Adrian reminded him.

“That somehow makes it worse.”

Andrew stared at him.

Then his own eyes watered.

“I helped turn it.”

Victor looked at him.

Andrew looked back.

Both men immediately embraced.

“The chicken never had a chance.”

“It deserved better than us.”

Nearby, Claire wrapped both arms around Samantha.

“You know what?” she sniffed.

“I hope the baby looks like Elizabeth.”

Samantha blinked.

“Thank you?”

“Imagine inheriting Samuel’s face.”

Across the garden Samuel looked up.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

“I am standing right here.”

Samantha’s composure shattered first.

Claire followed seconds later.

Jamey nodded.

“Excellent. Emily.”

Emily hesitated.

“Are you sure?”

“No.”

Her resonance surged outward anyway.

Warm golden pressure flooded through Adrian’s whisper and spread across the estate.

The effect struck instantly.

Sadness became something larger.

Love resurfaced beside old grief.

Friendship intertwined with relief.

Hope rose through fear while loss lingered beneath all of it.

Every emotion attached to every memory surfaced together.

People dropped into chairs.

Others sat directly on the grass.

Several openly sobbed while comforting one another about problems nobody had cared about thirty seconds earlier.

Victor and Andrew remained locked in mutual grief beside the grill.

“The chicken…” Victor choked.

“The chicken…” Andrew agreed.

Claire clung to Samantha.

Jason was somehow laughing and crying at the same time.

Even Master Dan had gone suspiciously quiet.

Only four people remained standing.

Max, Seth, Ethan, and Elara remained untouched while the emotional tide swept through everyone else gathered around them.

Their divine nature stood apart from the chaos unfolding across the estate.

Max watched Victor apologize directly to the chicken.

Andrew nodded supportively beside him.

Claire was crying over a baby that had not yet been born.

Someone fell off a chair.

Max pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Enough.”

The word cracked across the estate.

Silence followed instantly.

Several seconds passed.

Nobody seemed eager to be the first person to speak.

Caleb finally cleared his throat.

“I just cried over a chicken.”

“You weren’t alone,” Andrew admitted.

Victor pointed toward him.

“Thank you.”

Olivia wiped her face while laughing softly.

“I have no idea why I was crying, but I was suddenly convinced I needed to call everyone I’ve ever cared about.”

Samantha stared openly at Emily afterward.

“Your resonance multiplied through Adrian’s emotional pathways.”

Emily blinked.

“I did what?”

Hannah lowered her drink slowly.

“They harmonized an entire emotional field.”

Jamey looked unbearably pleased with himself.

“I remain a visionary.”

“You remain a problem,” Max replied.

Seth crossed the gardens toward them afterward, silver breath drifting quietly around him while traces of the emotional current still lingered throughout the estate.

His attention shifted toward Sarah first.

She stood a little straighter now.

The constant tension that had followed her since arriving seemed noticeably lighter.

Seth studied her for a moment.

“How do you feel?”

Sarah stared at the ground briefly before looking back up.

“Lighter.”

Her voice cracked slightly.

“Like I finally cried out everything I’ve been trying not to feel.”

Silence settled around the group.

Seth’s expression softened immediately.

Then he turned toward Jamey, Adrian, Emily, Grace and finally Max.

“If they can do that accidentally,” he said, “we should consider using this combination at the Obsidian Forum tomorrow.”

Silence followed.

This time nobody laughed.

Because suddenly the idea sounded very serious indeed.

Jamey frowned first.

“But only the Magistrates and the demon containment teams are supposed to be there.”

Max looked at him with complete disbelief already forming across her face.

“Really?” she asked dryly.

“You genuinely believe information concerning us remains private for longer than ten minutes?”

Jamey opened his mouth.

Closed it again.

Max leaned back into her seat afterward.

“The moment we walk into the Forum with the full twenty-eight, every hidden observer, wandering elder, spiritual fanatic, and emotionally unstable conspiracy theorist within traveling distance is going to appear mysteriously nearby.”

Alec raised one hand from across the garden.

“She speaks truth.”

Adrian sighed into his drink.

“Our lives attract spectators with frightening consistency.”

“And problems,” Victor added.

“Mostly problems,” Hannah agreed quietly.

Seth’s expression remained calm despite the reactions moving through the group.

“Then we prepare for that outcome instead of pretending it will not happen.”

The weight behind his words settled naturally across the team afterward.

One by one, heads nodded around the gardens beneath the glow of firelight and moon reflection.

Tomorrow no longer felt distant.

Morning chaos swept through the estate in full force by the time breakfast began.

Conversation overlapped across the enormous dining hall while plates moved from hand to hand, chairs scraped against marble floors, and several simultaneous arguments battled for dominance over the sound system Emily had apparently taken control of sometime earlier.

Victor insisted Adrian destroyed eggs through arrogance alone.

Adrian argued that seasoning required intelligence.

Caleb attempted to steal bacon directly from Daniel’s plate and nearly lost a hand for the effort.

Meanwhile the twins sat together at the far end of the table quietly sharing fruit while everyone around them behaved like an exhausted traveling circus.

Samuel finally rose from his chair with the heavy patience of a man approaching spiritual exhaustion.

“We leave within the hour,” he announced loudly while filling another plate near the center island.

Nobody reacted.

Olivia laughed at something Emily whispered to her while Max sat beside Seth drinking coffee with the detached expression of somebody watching chaos unfold from a safe emotional distance.

Samuel slowly looked around the room.

Then he slammed his cup against the counter hard enough to echo through the entire dining area.

“We leave within the hour.”

A few people glanced toward him briefly before continuing their conversations anyway.

Samuel closed his eyes.

The floor beneath the table suddenly lifted several inches.

A deep violent tremor rolled through the entire dining hall hard enough to rattle cutlery, shake hanging lights, and silence every voice instantly.

Everyone froze.

Ethan sat quietly at the end of the table with one hand still covering his mouth after a very suspiciously timed cough.

The young boy slowly pointed toward Samuel afterward.

Samuel stared at him for two full seconds before mouthing a deeply sincere thank you.

Ethan smiled proudly beside Elara while the room remained painfully silent.

Samuel looked around the table again.

“We leave within the next hour,” he repeated calmly.

“Anybody still needing clothes, armor, weapons, emotional preparation, dramatic speeches, or spiritual confidence will handle it quickly because we are leaving without you if you are not ready.”

A pause followed.

Then:

“Got it,” the team answered almost together.

Including Max and Seth.

Samuel nodded once with complete satisfaction before returning to his breakfast like a man who had finally reclaimed authority through strategic child-assisted intimidation.

The Obsidian Forum had already begun filling long before Max and Seth arrived.

Word traveled faster than secrecy ever could when it involved the Living Scripture, the Sacred Silver Breath, ancient demons, and a full gathering of the twenty-eight.

By the time the twenty-eight emerged from the Grey Passage onto the Forum grounds, spiritual elders, wandering sect members, observers, Magistrates, and curious fools already crowded the outer halls pretending they happened to be nearby for entirely unrelated reasons.

Nobody believed them.

The massive entrance chambers quieted the moment Max stepped through the main corridor beside Seth.

No dramatic arrival announced them.

The reaction spread anyway.

Heads turned first.

Then conversations died in fragments across the enormous obsidian halls while the full weight of twenty-eight awakened entered together beneath the ancient vaulted ceilings of the Forum.

People moved aside instinctively.

Some out of reverence.

Others from survival instinct alone.

Gold scripture moved quietly across Max’s skin beneath the chamber lights while silver breath flowed around Seth in slow currents that caught attention wherever they passed.

The rest of the team followed them with the quiet confidence born from battle, sacrifice, and impossible victories.

A shared certainty travelled through the group.

Trust.

Strength.

Purpose.

The Forum had gathered powerful individuals from every corner of the world.

Few carried a presence capable of reshaping an entire room simply by entering it.

The twenty-eight did.

Jamey looked deeply pleased by the attention.

“That many people staring at us feels medically concerning,” Caleb whispered quietly.

“It improves once you accept the possibility of public disasters,” Adrian replied smoothly.

“It absolutely does not,” Olivia muttered.

The deeper they moved into the Forum, the larger the following became.

Observers abandoned dignity quickly.

Entire conversations stopped mid-sentence while sect members quietly left their positions just to trail behind the procession moving toward the central chamber.

Nobody wanted to miss what came next.

Especially after the last incident.

The memory of the colossal hand reaching through reality during Jeremy’s trial still haunted the Forum deeply enough that several older Magistrates visibly stiffened the moment Ethan and Elara entered the chamber beside Seth.

The twins noticed immediately.

Elara smiled sweetly.

Three elders looked seconds away from spiritual collapse.

The main Forum finally opened before them in immense descending tiers of black obsidian and ancient silver markings stretching beneath towering ceilings far above.

This time, tables and seating had been arranged directly at the center of the chamber floor beneath the ancient circular sigil carved into the Forum itself.

And people were already filling the surrounding tiers.

More arrived every minute.

The sound inside the chamber shifted strangely as whispers spread upward through the ascending rows like living currents moving through water.

Twenty-eight together.

The phrase moved through the Forum repeatedly in hushed disbelief while more eyes turned toward the gathering below.

Max slowed slightly at the center platform before lifting her gaze across the growing audience surrounding them from every direction.

The Obsidian Forum felt different today.

Watching.

Waiting.

And somewhere beneath the ancient structure, the demons waited too.

Leader Bo already stood beside the central Forum table by the time Max, Seth, and the twenty-eight descended into the chamber below.

His expression tightened visibly the closer they came.

The surrounding tiers continued filling rapidly while whispers rolled upward through the massive obsidian chamber in restless waves.

Elders abandoned composure openly now.

Sect members crowded the walkways overlooking the chamber floor while others remained standing between the ascending rows simply to watch what unfolded next.

Bo watched the approaching group slowly before folding his arms behind his back with visible contempt.

“Well,” he announced loudly enough for large portions of the chamber to hear, “the celebrities finally arrive.”

Several nearby conversations died immediately.

Bo continued anyway, encouraged by the attention turning toward him.

“Tell me something. Does the entire world simply gather whenever the two of you decide to make another dramatic appearance or has this become a full spiritual performance now?”

The whispers started instantly afterward.

Disapproval spread through some sections of the tiers while others murmured reluctant agreement beneath lowered voices.

The sound multiplied rapidly until layered conversations crashed through the chamber from every direction at once.

Too much power.

Too much attention.

The Living Scripture attracts worship.

The Sacred Breath encourages it.

The Forum descended into noise.

Max continued walking calmly through all of it.

Then her eyes shifted toward Jamey.

Jamey straightened immediately with the deeply satisfied expression of somebody whose terrible instincts had finally become useful publicly.

Of course he positioned himself between Adrian and Emily earlier.

Max looked toward Adrian afterward.

Adrian understood instantly.

Silver influence already moved softly through the chamber beneath Emily’s expanding resonance while Jamey amplified both into something immense enough to press against the entire Forum at once.

Adrian inhaled slowly.

“Quiet,” he whispered.

The chamber obeyed instantly.

Thousands of voices vanished together hard enough to make the silence itself feel violent.

Then Adrian spoke again.

“Sit.”

The entire Obsidian Forum moved at once.

Every person throughout the tiers, walkways, aisles, and standing platforms dropped into their seats simultaneously in one colossal unified impact powerful enough to shake the chamber floor beneath them.

The thunderous sound cracked upward through the ascending obsidian rows while tables rattled violently and ancient silver markings carved into the Forum floor pulsed faintly beneath the overwhelming synchronization.

When the echoes finally faded, the silence felt even heavier than before.

Fear spread visibly afterward while people looked around slowly as understanding entered the chamber all at once.

Adrian’s influence reached them before.

Emily’s resonance soothed emotional pressure beautifully.

Together beneath Jamey’s amplification, the effect became something far larger than emotional guidance.

The Forum itself had just obeyed.

Max finally stopped beside the central table before turning her gaze back toward Leader Bo with a soft smile.

Bo’s face tightened immediately.

Then his eyes shifted toward Seth.

A faint smile rested there too.

Calm.

Certain.

Entirely infuriating.

Fresh anger surged across Bo’s expression hard enough to push him forward immediately.

He opened his mouth fully prepared to continue the insult.

Silver pressure erupted outward from Seth in immense unseen waves that flooded the chamber with crushing authority powerful enough to freeze movement across entire sections of the tiers.

At the same moment, Adrian’s voice slipped calmly through the silence.

“You will remain silent until I permit otherwise.”

Bo’s mouth continued moving.

Sound refused to follow.

Shock entered his face immediately afterward while silent words formed uselessly against the oppressive stillness gripping his voice entirely.

Several Magistrates looked genuinely disturbed now.

Others stared openly at Adrian and Emily with growing unease while Jamey stood between them looking moments away from unbearable pride.

Alec leaned slightly toward Claire.

“He is going to become impossible after this.”

“He achieved impossible several disasters ago,” Claire replied softly.

Jamey pointed toward himself proudly anyway.

“History rewards visionaries.”

Max rested her hands lightly atop the central Forum table afterward while the chamber remained completely silent around her.

“Now,” she said gently, “can we resume our meeting?”

Today the Forum witnessed influence.

Tomorrow it faces intention.

The demons still wait beneath the chamber.
