My hands were still bound behind my back.

My body barely had enough strength left to move.

A man grabbed me by the hair and forced my head beneath the cold water.

My lungs burned but I didn’t fight him nor made my throat to scream.

I stayed still and conserved whatever strength I had left.

“Boss, she’s no longer fighting back,” Zuran said.

The pressure hit on my head that remained.

I clenched my fists beneath the water.

My mother had trained me for moments like this.

As an agent, I was taught to stay composed no matter how bad things became.

But training could only prepare me for so much.

Six years ago, something inside me had shattered.

I still remembered what happened to Yannah.

The same brutality I had witnessed back then was the kind the Ciffarelli had inflicted on my mother.

Right in front of me.

My head was suddenly yanked out of the water.

I gasped, barely getting a breath before the man shoved me to the ground.

Cold air struck my soaked clothes.

My body trembled against the floor as the dawn breeze slipped through the room.

“I’ll make sure you rot in hell,” I muttered.

My gaze lifted toward Inferno.

He sat comfortably in his steel chair, watching everything unfold with amusement.

“Says who, you rat?” he sneered.

“You should be thanking me. I extended your lifespan. That poor lady’s father doesn’t care about her at all.”

His expression hardened as he looked down at me.

“Thank my ass,” I muttered.

“WOOOOOO!”

The men around him erupted in laughter and mocking cheers.

Inferno’s amusement disappeared.

He slowly tapped the end of his cane against the floor.

Tap.

Tap.

“Agent Beltran.” His voice dropped.

“This is my last warning. What information did you gather about the Ciffarelli?”

He leaned forward.

“ANSWER ME!” His voice thundered through the room.

I raised my head despite the ache spreading through my body.

“Why don’t you ask him directly?”

A vein stood out on his temple.

Despite his age, his physique was still imposing.

He reached for the gun resting beside him and aimed it straight at me.

“Kill me.” I said as I stared directly down the barrel.

“If you kill me, the information dies with me. Do you really think you can scare me with that?”

Inferno stood and he stepped closer.

Before I could react, the lit end of his cigarette pressed against my skin.

I squeezed my eyes shut.

The pain burned through me.

I refused to give him the satisfaction of hearing me scream.

Again and again.

My patience snapped.

I lifted my leg and kicked him hard in the abdomen.

Inferno stumbled backward.

“Boss!” Zuran rushed forward to steady him.

Bang!

Pain exploded through my shoulder.

I looked down as blood was already spreading across my soaked clothes.

“Let this be your final warning, Beltran,” Inferno said coldly.

“I’ll give you until dawn to think wisely. If you don’t, you won’t have any use to me anymore.”

He turned and walked away.

The door slammed behind him.

I pressed my lips together, trying to keep myself steady.

For several seconds, I managed.

Then the pain became impossible to ignore.

My back throbbed.

My shoulder burned.

My hands were still bound behind me.

“Damn it, Savannah,” I whispered.

Blood trickled down my arm, mixing with the water that still clung to my clothes.

I shivered as the I can feel the coldness of my soaked clothes.

The pain crawled toward my head until every heartbeat seemed to pound against my skull.

A weak chuckle escaped me.

The door suddenly opened.

I didn’t even have the strength to look up.

“What is it now?” I muttered.

I turned my head.

My face began cold and pale as the sight of Zuran stood there.

I scoffed.

“Did he send you to finish me off?” I asked.

“Changed his mind, huh?”

He didn’t answer.

Instead, he crouched behind me and carefully supported my back, helping me against the wall.

My eyes narrowed.

What was he doing?

Then I heard the metallic click of the chain being unlocked.

My confusion deepened.

“Don’t do anything stupid. Shut your mouth,” he ordered.

I opened my mouth to yell but his hand immediately covered it.

“Fuck. Can’t you understand?” he whispered harshly.

“You women are impossible to read. Cooperate if you want to live.”

The moment my hands were free, instinct took over.

I grabbed him by the neck with the strength that have left.

“Do I look stupid to you?” I hissed.

“Why would I trust someone who just wallow me into the water and stood there while I was being tortured?”

Zuran easily caught my arm and pulled it away.

Before I could react, he restrained my wrist above my head with one hand.

Pain shot through my wounded shoulder.

I groaned.

Zuran cursed under his breath.

He reached for my soaked shirt.

I immediately slapped his hand away.

“Stay away from me.”

His jaw tightened.

He looked directly at me, his brows drawn together.

“How am I supposed to treat your wound if you’re going to fight me every second?”

He paused.

“Can I have your permission, Beltran?”

His voice remained low, but there was something different in it this time.

I stared at him suspiciously.

He wasn’t smiling, he wasn’t mocking me but instead he was waiting for me to gave him my word.

I finally stopped resisting.

Zuran carefully removed my soaked shirt so he could reach the gunshot wound. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.

Heat rushed to my face from the embarrassment, and I quickly looked away.

“It’s impossible that he order you to do this?” I asked.

“No.” His answer came immediately.

He opened the small medical kit he had brought with him.

“So behave, or I’ll get caught before I manage to remove this shit from your shoulder.”

He handed me a piece of cloth.

I stared at it then back at him.

He waited as I stared at the cloth he just trying to put into my mouth

“Bite it, Volkov wouldn’t let it slide once he heard something in this room” He warned me.

I finally placed it between my teeth.

The first touch against the wound made my entire body tense.

I gripped the floor.

Zuran worked quickly and serious into my wound.

My breathing became uneven as he tried to remove the bullet.

I dug my fingers into his arm, searching for something to hold onto.

He didn’t react not even a flinch.

“Relax,” he said.

“I’m pulling it out.”

My face flushed at his words.

Wait.

What the hell am I thinking?

I immediately released his arm and clenched my fist against the floor instead.

The pain continued to pulse through my shoulder.

Then finally the pressure disappeared.

Zuran wrapped a clean bandage around the wound.

His palm briefly brushed against my skin as he secured it.

I looked at him.

“Why are you doing this?”

He continued packing his medical supplies.

“Isn’t helping me considered betraying your boss?” He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he pulled off his shirt and handed it to me.

I immediately looked away.

As my face turned hot as I stared at the shirt in his hand.

“You’re soaked,” he said.

“And you’ll get an infection if you leave the wound exposed to dirty water.”

He held the shirt out again.

“Wear it.”

I hesitated before taking it.

“They’ll bring you food later,” he continued.

“Don’t worry. I’m in charge of you while Boss isn’t here.”

He turned toward the door.

Then he walked away.

I stared at his bare back.

For several seconds, I couldn’t move.

What just happened?

My eyes dropped to my hands.

It was free and he hadn’t tied me back up with the chain.

A slow smile tugged at the corner of my lips.

“Should I take advantage of this?”

An idea formed in my head.

I glanced toward the closed door.

A quiet chuckle escaped me.

“Inferno wouldn’t get jealous if I stole one of his men, right?”

My smile widened.

Maybe this wasn’t over yet, not for me.
