Sensing that something was special about the little snake, Mu Yining hesitated over whether to keep it. If this snake possessed extraordinary abilities, it would certainly be a great asset after the apocalypse. However, it had only just been born; taking it away like this felt somewhat improper.

The more Mu Yining thought about it, the more annoyed she became. Just then, the sword spirit, who had been asleep for a long time, suddenly woke up.

“Hmph. Descendant of the Mu family, I didn’t expect you to have such good luck to actually pick up a divine beast. Hurry up and tame it!” A tsundere, childish voice sounded once again, leaving Mu Yining utterly speechlessly.Full novel: The Max-Level Expert Overthrew the Apocalypse — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“What divine beast? Do you think we’re filming a TV drama? At most, it’s just a mutated snake. And listen here, brat, stop calling me ‘descendant of the Mu family.’ My name is Mu Yining.”

“It’s an honor that young master is even speaking to you! A mere mortal, and you dare try to command me? Hmph! I am not a brat! I am a spirit—a spirit, do you understand? A sword spirit!” The sword spirit pouted, completely defiant.

“Still just a nameless little kid. Go back to sleep and leave me alone.” Mu Yining wasn’t about to waste her breath arguing with a child.

“You… young master couldn’t care less about you anyway, you foolish mortal…” The sword spirit babbled on for a long time, but seeing that Mu Yining was ignoring it, it huffed indignantly and went back to sleep.

The little snake felt a wave of energy fluctuate. It raised its head and immediately spat fire toward Mu Yining. A tiny red flame surged toward her with scorching heat. Mu Yining whipped her head around—luckily, her instincts were sharp, or there was no telling what might have happened.

The flame struck the ground, instantly creating a small pit that sizzled with high heat from the blast.

Mu Yining looked at the little snake with distaste. It was powerful, sure, but its mouth was far too reckless. If she kept it around, who knew if it might accidentally burn her to ashes one day?

Just as Mu Yining was about to shake the little snake off, it seemed to sense that it was about to be abandoned. It immediately dropped its head and rubbed against the back of Mu Yining’s hand. Feeling that acting cute wasn’t enough, it coiled tightly around her hand.

Watching the little snake’s shameless antics, the corner of Mu Yining’s mouth twitched, and she turned to leave.

“So, were you just showing off how cool you are to me earlier?” Mu Yining muttered to the little snake.

The little creature seemed to understand her words. It raised its head and looked at Mu Yining innocently with its tiny, red eyes.

The next second, a red object came flying into the spatial domain—*clack*—landing right on Alan’s head…

Starting today, Alan might no longer enjoy Mu Yining’s favor all to himself. Life as a dog was truly tough.

Mu Yining had gained another treasure!

The dog bared its teeth at the little snake. It knew Mu Yining had brought it here, but it didn’t understand what this ugly little thing was supposed to be.

The little snake ignored the dog, entirely baffled by its master’s way of welcoming it—why did she throw it into a place like this? It slithered into the grass on its own and vanished from sight.

Exiting the park, Mu Yining was still frowning tightly. She didn’t know where the little snake had come from, and she wondered if it was really fine to take it away like this. But just moments ago, an intuition had driven her to take it without hesitation. She hoped her instincts were right.

Irritated, Mu Yining drove onto the highway in the middle of the night, heading toward Province G.

With the music playing inside the car, Mu Yining drove at high speed, speeding alone down the pitch-black road. She no longer had any family, and her friends were merely casual acquaintances who greeted each other in passing. After the apocalypse, human hearts would become unpredictable; people would grow selfish and cold. Who would still have the capacity to care about others? Mu Yining had long since grown accustomed to this kind of life.

Three hours later, she crossed the border into Province G. By now, Mu Yining was physically and mentally exhausted. She parked the car in an open lot in the suburbs, turned off the engine, and entered her spatial domain. After a simple dinner, she fell fast asleep into dreamland.
