Mu Yining was certain that he had already been infected with the virus; from the looks of it, it wouldn’t be long before the toxin broke out and he mutated.

She carefully checked the other duty rooms, but there was no one around. Walking over to the small convenience store on the left, she saw a woman slumped over behind the cashier counter as well. Mu Yining stood in place, listening closely to feel whether she was still breathing, when a blood-curdling scream suddenly echoed from the direction of the restroom.

This terrified, helpless sound was all too familiar to Mu Yining. She stepped forward quickly, kicked the door open, and was met with a floor drenched in blood. A man in a business suit was crawling on the ground with his back turned to her.Full novel: The Max-Level Expert Overthrew the Apocalypse — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Hearing the noise, his head turned back sluggishly. He was still chewing on fresh flesh and blood, a piece of meat clutched in his hand, while the white shirt beneath his suit jacket was completely stained with gore.

Mu Yining swiftly drew the Azure Spirit Sword, took two steps forward, and flicked her right wrist lightly. A head cleanly separated from its body. Attacking any other part of a zombie was useless; the most direct method was to destroy their brain.

This was the first zombie Mu Yining had killed since her rebirth, and it was also the first time the Azure Spirit Sword had drawn blood since its seal was broken. Cold indifference settled in the corners of her eyes. The Azure Spirit Sword seemed thrilled, emitting a low hum before settling back into silence.

Only then did she notice the employee beneath the dead man in the suit. Wearing a dark blue uniform, his throat had already been torn open. Tears slipped down from the corners of his eyes, his face frozen in utter disbelief, but he could no longer utter a single word.

Mu Yining watched as he gradually lost consciousness, plunged her blade into his head, turned to leave, and casually shut the restroom door behind her.

The two employees in the main hall had also slowly straightened up. Seeing Alan crouched in the corner, they shuffled directly toward him, swinging their stiff arms.

Alan bared his teeth to the side, ready to pounce at any moment.

Stepping back outside, Mu Yining made quick work of the two. She dragged their bodies into the staff breakroom and covered them with a piece of cloth. Perhaps mutating in their sleep brought less pain. The apocalypse was simply like this: survival of the fittest.

Dragging Alan over to her, she trained him to recognize the smell of zombies. Mu Yining patiently explained to him that he must never bite these foul-smelling corpses, or else there would be no meat for him to eat in the future.

Understanding only half of it, the dog let out two barks toward the two corpses on the ground.

Mu Yining collected gasoline at top speed, even moving the two tanker trucks in the backyard into her space. Everything—including oil drums and fuel tanks—was swept into her space without leaving a single item behind.

After filling up her three vehicles, she realized that she still had far too few cars. Just as she was feeling troubled over this, a distant scream snapped her back to reality.

That’s right—with zombies everywhere now, who would still care about cars?

She drove onto a main thoroughfare. By this time, the streets were already in complete chaos. Mu Yining got out of the car quickly and only stored it away once she was thirty meters clear of it.

Walking forward on foot, she remembered that this street used to be very prosperous, meaning she could probably scavenge almost anything she wanted here.

However, the sight before her filled Mu Yining with deep irritation. Screams echoed continuously through the crowd. Once human fear was unleashed, all reason vanished. Seeing a zombie approaching, people didn’t dodge or defend themselves; instead, they instinctively pulled the person next to them in front of themselves to seek protection.

There were also those who ran while crying and screaming, unaware that such moving prey only attracted zombies even more.

A police car was parked right in the middle of the road, its siren sounding increasingly ear-splitting in this moment. The vehicle, which was supposed to be a solemn and inviolable blue and white, was now swarming with zombies drawn by the alarm, completely unrecognizable from its original appearance.
