“Mianmian’s Second Guoguo is going to jump? No, no, I have to save him!” Mianmian raced toward the rooftop in a panic.
Gu Xu had told her that Qin Yuchuan suffered from severe depression and that suicide attempts were frequent.
But recently, she had clearly heard Big Guoguo say that Second Guoguo’s condition had improved.
So why, out of the blue, was he threatening to jump?
Mianmian pushed through the crowd and saw Qin Yuchuan standing on the edge of the rooftop. Her little heart pounded wildly.
“Second Guoguo… no!” she cried. Qin Yuchuan heard the familiar voice, but his expression remained blank as he turned around, revealing his face to her.
Exhausted, hollow-eyed, and with an unkempt beard, he still had undeniable good looks beneath it all.
Qin Yuchuan ignored Mianmian. He spread his arms, ready to leap at any moment.
Gu Xu squeezed forward. Seeing Qin Yuchuan teetering on the edge, his heart leapt into his throat.
“Yuchuan, think of your family! Think of your little sister… she can’t lose you! No one in the Qin family can lose you!”
Frantically, Gu Xu sent a message, hoping Yunchuan would come immediately. Otherwise…
“They don’t care about me. As for her… a coward afraid of me… with Big Brother watching over her, she has nothing to worry about. My life should go with the wind…”
He tilted his head to the sky, eyes half-closed.
[This person is starved for love. He clearly cares for his family but is too afraid to say it.]
[His depression started because he was abandoned in the countryside as a child. When he was brought back, he became insecure, which caused his psychological issues.]
The voices came from the two potted plants on the rooftop. Mianmian remembered that the original owner had indeed been afraid of Second Guoguo and didn’t get close to him.
Second Guoguo had come from the countryside, unfamiliar with life in the city. His family neglected him, his sister feared him, and over time, his mental state deteriorated.
In her memory, Second Guoguo had been in the city for ten years, while she was only three and a half.
Mianmian took a step forward and shouted, “Second Guoguo, I care about you! I can’t bear to lose you!”
Right now, the most important thing was to coax Second Guoguo down.
She had finally regained her family and wasn’t going to lose a single member.
Her sobbing drew Qin Yuchuan’s attention.
The little one was really crying—for him.
He muttered under his breath, “Little liar…”
“I’m not a little liar! Second Guoguo, I don’t want to lose you!”
Qin Yuchuan still ignored her.
Mianmian glanced around. As Qin Yuchuan shifted slightly, she suddenly ran up another high step.
“Mianmian, what are you doing? Get down!”
Gu Xu’s soul nearly left his body.
One person wasn’t enough—now another was at risk.
“Second Guoguo, if you jump, I’ll jump with you. We’ll go together as siblings, and at least we’ll have company in the Yellow Springs.”
Mianmian spoke solemnly, staring at Qin Yuchuan with a serious expression. The crowd watching shivered in fear.
This was even more dangerous.
Qin Yuchuan squinted, “Get down. Why are you joining in?”
“I’ll die with Second Guoguo.”
Mianmian mimicked Qin Yuchuan, tilting her head back and spreading her arms. She tiptoed as if preparing to leap.
Unbeknownst to her, the scene terrified everyone present.
Now it wasn’t just one person threatening to jump—there was a little baby, too. The commotion had already alerted the hospital director.
He rushed over with the police, and upon seeing a large adult and a tiny child in identical poses, his legs went weak.
It’s… it’s over…
Mianmian’s small body swayed in the wind. Actually, she was very scared—she didn’t dare look down.
“Qin Yuchuan! Qin Mianmian! What are you doing?!”
A roar came from behind. Qin Yunchuan appeared, his face dark, hair disheveled from rushing.
“I want to die alone. Take her away. Stop causing trouble!”
“I won’t leave! I’ll die with Second Guoguo!”
Both were stubborn. Qin Yunchuan didn’t know how many extra years he would lose dealing with this mischievous little brother and sister.
Qin Yunchuan clenched his fists and stared sharply at Qin Yuchuan.
“Qin Yuchuan, are you really going to watch your little sister jump to her death?”
He stared at his brother’s back, gambling on his reaction.
The wind whistled past, everyone’s nerves were taut. Mianmian, standing for so long, felt dizzy. She glimpsed the ground below—twenty floors down—and knew she would be shattered if she fell.
Her little face turned pale, and she grew even more lightheaded.
“No, Mianmian…” Gu Xu’s urgent shout reached her as her tiny body leaned outward, and the crowd gasped in horror.
The director collapsed in disbelief.
Mianmian thought she was about to die—but suddenly, she landed in a strong, protective embrace. Carefully, she opened her eyes and clung to Qin Yuchuan in relief.
“Second Guoguo…”
Qin Yuchuan’s heart pounded. Just a moment’s delay, and Mianmian would have fallen. He couldn’t calm down even now.
Qin Yunchuan ran over and took Mianmian from Qin Yuchuan’s arms. He gave her a gentle slap on the bottom.
“Qin Mianmian, no more next times.”
Mianmian hugged him, feeling wronged.
Then she burst into tears.
“Waaah… Big Guoguo, I almost died!”
Her fear hit her all at once. Even Qin Yunchuan couldn’t scold her now.
Qin Yunchuan comforted her while doctors and nurses attended to Qin Yuchuan.
Qin Yuchuan was taken away, glancing back at Mianmian in silence.
Mianmian lay in Qin Yunchuan’s arms, crying herself slowly into soft sobs.
At least Second Guoguo had been saved.
Qin Yunchuan held her to check for injuries—aside from the shock, she was fine.
“Big Guoguo, I want to see Second Guoguo.”
“No, your Second Brother is receiving treatment. Wait a bit longer.”
They needed him to be emotionally stable first. Mianmian replied with a quiet “oh.”
Qin Yunchuan left the room. Gu Xu quietly gave Mianmian a thumbs-up.
“Little Mianmian… you’re brave. That was the twentieth floor! And the way you said you’d die with him—so dramatic and heroic.”
Mianmian suddenly felt embarrassed. She fiddled with her fingers and lowered her head, not meeting Gu Xu’s gaze.
This was a habit she developed from multiple outings with the clan elders, encountering enemies, and staying alert.
She flopped onto the bed and soon fell asleep. Gu Xu tucked her in.
He quietly left and ran into Qin Yunchuan returning.
“How’s Yuchuan?”
“Not well. His self-harm is getting worse.”
In addition to attempting suicide, he had started hurting himself. Qin Yunchuan’s brows were deeply furrowed, showing increasing worry and guilt.
He leaned wearily against the wall.
“All these years, I haven’t cared enough about Yuchuan. I feel guilty. If it weren’t for me, he wouldn’t have been sent to the countryside!”
