Chapter 3: Do you deserve it?

The Moon Goddess Chose Me as the Luna of Four Alphas

"I, Adrian Beaumont, reject Liliana Forst as my Luna," said Adrian Beaumont in a firm voice.

"I, Alaric Beaumont, reject Liliana Forst as my Luna," said Alaric Beaumont in a voice just as firm.

Liliana stared in disbelief at the two Alphas she had served all this time. She took a step back, and a mouthful of fresh blood spurted from her mouth.

Valerie looked at Liliana with a look of disgust, before being pulled into Adrian’s embrace.

"Don’t be afraid, I’m here," Adrian said soothingly.

Alaric stepped forward, blocking Valerie’s view of Liliana.

"Disgusting!" Alaric shouted, immediately kicking Liliana’s body out of their sight.

The kick sent Liliana’s body flying several meters backward.

Her body had been broken ever since two years ago, when she saved Valerie from a bear attack. Not to mention the rejection by two Alphas at once, compounded by her physical condition which had never received proper care because she had to work hard as a servant in the Beaumont family’s residence.

While at work, Liliana was bullied by Valerie’s people even by Valerie herself.

"Hahaha..." a low laugh escaped Liliana’s lips.

"Why? Why are you rejecting me? Why are you treating me like this?" she asked, her voice full of indignation.

Adrian frowned at her laughter. "Do you really think you’re worthy of being our Luna, Liliana? You’re too arrogant."

Liliana looked up at Adrian. "Aren’t I the Luna chosen by the Moon Goddess to be your fated mate? Isn’t your family the most obedient to the Moon Goddess’s commands?"

"We’ve already been obedient to the Moon Goddess. We’ve also been obedient by accepting you as our Luna for the past two years isn’t that enough proof of our obedience?"

"What?" Liliana stared at Adrian and Alaric with a look of bewilderment and disbelief.

Alaric sneered. "Adrian and I have known that you’re the Luna chosen by the Moon Goddess since two years ago, right at the time of our coming-of-age ceremony."

Adrian tightened his arms around Valerie’s waist, as if afraid she’d be shocked by their confession.

"I, Adrian Beaumont, choose Valerie Beaumont, our adopted sister, as my luna."

Alaric stepped back for a moment, then knelt before Valerie. He took her hand and kissed it gently.

"I, Alaric Beaumont, choose Valerie Beaumont, our adopted sister, as my luna."

The crowd of guests stirred at their declaration.

In truth, it’s not impossible for a Luna to have two Alphas, and vice versa. However, such a situation is usually the absolute will of the Moon Goddess, not the personal desire of a werewolf.

If it happens due to a one-sided rejection, the rejected Luna will feel excruciating pain as if being tortured by thousands of needles as a consequence of being deemed to have failed to maintain the soul bond with her Alpha partner.

Valerie was stunned. This was her coming-of-age day, just like Liliana’s had been.

"You two..." she murmured in disbelief.

"Why? Why did you reject me?" Liliana cut in with a hoarse voice.

Adrian narrowed his eyes as he looked at Liliana, who appeared increasingly pitiful.

"We’ve let you hold the title of Luna for the past two years, allowed you to live in this residence and serve us, the leaders of the pack. That’s enough, Liliana. From this moment on, we have no connection whatsoever. Alaric and I are releasing you."

Alaric smiled cynically and rose from his seat.

"Only Valerie is worthy of being our luna. You? You’re not worthy at all. Now leave. All this time, we’ve let you stay here just so Valerie would have a playmate. Now Valerie’s bored, and we’ll find her a new playmate."

Liliana tried to stand up, looking at the three of them one by one, before finally fixing Valerie with a gaze full of despair. "Valerie... I’m your older sister. How could you do this to me? After everything that’s happened, is this how you treat me?"

Valerie frowned in displeasure. "Sister? I’ve never had a sister like you. Even though I don’t remember my past, I’m sure we aren’t related by blood at all. Stop talking nonsense!"

Liliana tried to step closer. "You have something in common with me. You can check for yourself."

Thord, the Beta who had been specifically assigned to protect Valerie, stepped forward and kicked Liliana hard in the stomach before she could get any closer.

Liliana’s body slammed into a tree trunk not far from where she stood. Once again, fresh blood spurted from her mouth.

"How dare a lowly servant like you claim to be Miss Valerie’s sister? Have you lost your mind?"

"Liliana, it’s true we were born on the same day," Valerie said coldly, "but that’s the only thing we have in common. I’ve never felt any blood bond between us. Look alike? Don’t be ridiculous can’t you even see your own face?"

Adrian smiled gently, then pulled Valerie back into his embrace, as if unwilling to part from her even for a second.

"Stop staring at that ugly face. You’re the most beautiful, Valerie. Even if Liliana’s face weren’t scarred, I’m sure she wouldn’t hold a candle to even your little finger."

Valerie looked up at Adrian, then smiled broadly, overjoyed.

"Hahahahahaha!" Liliana’s desperate laughter rang out loudly once more, shattering the silence in the courtyard.

She touched her own cheek. It was true her face was badly injured. She’d sustained the wound while trying to save Valerie from a bear back then. She never expected that the injury she’d sustained while saving Valerie would become the very reason her younger sister had forgotten her and the reason her soulmate had rejected her.

"Adrian, Alaric... I can’t believe you dare to defy the will of the Moon Goddess. I am the luna the Moon Goddess has chosen for you! How could you possibly reject me?" Liliana asked, still unable to accept the reality.

"Do you really think a lowly servant who can’t even summon her own wolf is worthy of being our mate?" Alaric retorted sharply.

"Go away, and never show your face to us again. The Beaumont pack rejects those without a wolf, like you," Adrian added coldly.

"Lies! You’re all lying! I can’t believe it... Valerie, you wouldn’t steal my Alpha partners, would you? You, my little sister!"

Valerie stared at Liliana in confusion for a moment, before looking up at Adrian and Alaric in turn.

"You guys... are you really serious? You’re rejecting Liliana as your partner and choosing me to be Luna’s companion?" she asked to make sure.

Alaric and Adrian exchanged glances before smiling with confidence.

"Do you doubt us, Valerie?" Adrian asked.

Alaric gave a faint smile. "Or... do you want us to prove it right now?"
