“You must be dreaming.” The young man flicked his wrist dismissively.
Then, as if nothing had happened, he broke into a grin. “I just want to swap clothes with you.”
“Ahhh!!”
After Ji Fengjian fainted dead away, Lin Huai reached down and pulled open his collar.
In the next instant, his wrist was seized mid motion by Chu Tianshu.
“…Wear this instead.” The corners of Chu Tianshu’s mouth twitched as he dug into the bag he carried with him and pulled out a clean set of spare clothes.
Half an hour later.
Dressed in the new outfit, Lin Huai left the alley alongside Chu Tianshu. Left behind on the cold, damp ground was Ji Fengjian, sprawled unconscious, his school uniform now forcibly layered with a set of tattered women’s clothing.
“This scene is a bit too… artistic, don’t you think?” Chu Tianshu commented. “A male student passes out drunk in an alley after staying out all night, only to be found dressed in ragged women’s clothes. Is this the decay of morality or the distortion of human nature?”
“Serves him right for calling me a pervert,” Lin Huai raised an eyebrow. “If he insists on that label, I might as well live up to it.”
Chu Tianshu: “…That inexplicable sense of pride of yours.”
The two of them walked down the silent street. It was already one in the morning.
With Gu Beichen eliminated, Liangchuan Town had returned to its usual calm. It was at this moment that Lin Huai suddenly remembered a matter of life and death,
“Where are you planning to stay tonight?” he turned to Chu Tianshu. “It’s one in the morning. The school gates are already closed. Do you want to…”
“Sure.” Chu Tianshu casually draped an arm over Lin Huai’s shoulder. “I’ll accept your invitation and stay at your place.”
Lin Huai: …
He narrowed his eyes. “You…”
“It’s fine,” Chu Tianshu said quickly. “I don’t mind sharing a bed with you, wearing the same pajamas, using the same pillow, covering ourselves with the same blanket…”
Lin Huai: …
“We’re both men, don’t be so stingy.” Chu Tianshu pinched his cheek. “Aren’t you wearing my jacket right now?”
Lin Huai: …
“For some reason, this situation feels a little strange.” Standing on the balcony, Lin Huai stretched out a hand toward Chu Tianshu, who was perched in a tree. “Grab on. Come up.”
With his help, Chu Tianshu leapt onto the balcony.
After making sure his parents hadn’t been disturbed, Lin Huai brought him into his room.
He gestured for Chu Tianshu to sit on the bed while he opened the wardrobe and began rummaging through it. “This set of pajamas should fit you. You can use this spare pillow…”
He turned around. “Why is your face so red? Was climbing a tree really that exhausting?”
“Well…” Chu Tianshu scratched his head. “Just thinking about wearing your clothes and using your things… it feels kind of… exciting.”
Lin Huai: …
He shot him a look of utter disdain and mouthed silently, “Keep your voice down. Don’t let my parents hear you.”
The moment those words left his lips, Chu Tianshu’s face turned even redder.
He awkwardly scratched his cheek, looking visibly uncomfortable all over. Lin Huai said, “Get down here, I’ll make the bed… wait, damn it! You, ”
Only then did he finally realize the reason for Chu Tianshu’s flushed face and his own face immediately began to burn as well. “Why is your brain filled with nothing but dirty thoughts?!”
“Heh, heh.” Chu Tianshu let out another bright, carefree laugh. “It’s mainly because this whole conversation… feels exactly like something out of a doujin plot.”
“High school lovers sneaking around in their room at night behind their parents’ backs?” Lin Huai narrowed his eyes. “Wake up, we’re both men… although, come to think of it, that doesn’t really change anything.”
The one point two meter bed was, frankly, far too small. It wasn’t that Lin Huai had never slept beside Chu Tianshu before but there had always been some kind of buffer, Ye Xian between them, separate beds or one on the bed and one on the floor. Sleeping pressed this closely together was a first.
“Can you stop moving already…” Lin Huai found himself wedged between the wall and Chu Tianshu’s body, thoroughly uncomfortable. “This feels really weird…”
The young man lying beside him fell silent for a moment before replying, “I haven’t moved at all. You’re the one who keeps moving.”
“Damn it.”
When Chu Tianshu spoke, his breath brushed directly against Lin Huai’s neck. A shiver ran through him, his body tingling as irritation flared. He turned abruptly. “Can you stop breathing on me, ”
And then, suddenly, they were face to face.
Earlier, when Chu Tianshu had been facing his back, Lin Huai hadn’t been fully aware of just how awkward the situation was but now, having turned around, they were lying directly opposite each other. The atmosphere instantly turned ambiguous.
Lin Huai: …
“You…” he stammered, unexpectedly tongue tied. “I…”
After a brief silence, he decided it would be better to return to his original position.
In the cramped space, Lin Huai struggled, twisting and turning in an effort to roll over again. Chu Tianshu, meanwhile, remained as still as a statue.
Fifteen minutes later.
As Lin Huai, exhausted from the earlier fight, finally drifted off into sleep, Chu Tianshu at last began the arduous process of turning over.
“Damn,” he cursed inwardly. “This is basically one of the top ten forms of torture.”
Clenching his legs together, relying on his much prided self control to maintain an outward appearance of calm restraint, Chu Tianshu lay stiffly like a sculpture. With his back pressed against the soft warmth of the other’s body, he stared at the pitch black sky outside the window and did not sleep a single moment that night.
Before “Tomie’s” parents woke up, Chu Tianshu climbed down the tree and left Lin Huai’s room.
Compared to sweetness, that difficult night had felt far more like torment. He yawned listlessly, suddenly struck by the urgent need to find a place to stay and perhaps even consider selling second hand cars.
As he lifted his gaze toward the street corner, a house partially hidden beneath the shade of trees caught his attention.
“Saeki?”
“Side quest has been issued.”
The system’s voice rang out in Chu Tianshu’s mind.
“Side Quest 1: Want a coconut… no, a Kayako?”
“Liangchuan Town is a peaceful and beautiful place. Within this unremarkable town, aside from the mysterious and beautiful girl Tomie, there also lurks a mysterious and terrifying villa, as well as a strange videotape… They are filled with malice and resentment toward the world and are thus known as the ‘Big Three of Vengeful Spirits’…”
