Shen Que didn’t know how to begin, stammering as he asked about his grandmother’s health.

Sheng Xuanzhu stood with his back to the moonlight, his expression unclear, but his voice carried a cold, mocking tone. “So afraid I’ll kill your grandmother?”

“No,” Shen Que replied anxiously. “I’m just… I’m just worried about Grandma. She’s old and sick, so I want to take care of her…”Full novel: The Obedient Stand-in is Raised by the Deceased Husband — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Sheng Xuanzhu’s thin lips pressed together.

Shen Que quietly swallowed, trying to suppress the ache in his chest as he lowered his head to hold back tears. “Mr. Xuan, I don’t know why you insist on having me, but Grandma is innocent. Please… don’t make things difficult for her.”

Shen Que’s eyes were slightly red, his cheeks still flushed, making it impossible for Sheng Xuanzhu to look away.

Seeing Shen Que finally willing to yield, Sheng Xuanzhu was in a good mood. He took out a pre-prepared agreement from the drawer and handed it to him.

Shen Que opened the agreement.

In the future, Shen Que must address Mr. Xuan as “Mr. Xuan” in all settings.

He must reside in the accommodation arranged by Mr. Xuan. Regardless of Mr. Xuan’s demands, Shen Que must comply and fulfill them under any circumstances.

During his time with Mr. Xuan, he is not allowed to intentionally release his own pheromones.

Throughout the transaction, Shen Que has no right to terminate the agreement on his own, nor is he allowed to become pregnant or bear children without Mr. Xuan’s consent.

There were many more clauses like these.

The black-and-white text made Shen Que’s palms sweat.

He lacked the courage to refuse this agreement.

He feared that rejecting the man before him would send his grandmother back to the operating room, and he dreaded being sold off again by his agency to some greasy, lecherous producer.

Sheng Xuanzhu lit a cigarette. “As long as you behave and stay by my side, you won’t have to worry about the doctors, expenses for your grandmother’s treatment, or your career in the entertainment industry.”

“Why me?”

Sheng Xuanzhu glanced at him indifferently, sensing that the small omega before him seemed on the verge of fainting from nervousness just to ask this question.

“Because you are Sheng Xuanzhu’s omega.”

Shen Que hadn’t expected him to bring up that dead man. His sleep-swollen eyes darkened to the point of despair. “You want revenge on him?”

Sheng Xuanzhu stared at him, remaining silent for a long time.

“It seems Mr. Xuan doesn’t realize that I was nothing more than a disposable substitute for Sheng Xuanzhu. Having me won’t make him care even a bit in hell,” Shen Que said with a resigned, bitter smile. “Even so, do you still insist on having me?”

Sheng Xuanzhu had never imagined that, in Shen Que’s heart, he deserved to be in hell. No wonder Shen Que showed no grief over his death.

The eerie glint in the alpha’s eyes was answer enough. Shen Que felt a chill run through his body, tears welling in his eyes. “Fine. No one wants to let me go.”

Trembling, he bit his finger hard, waiting for the bright red blood to soak his fingerprint before pressing it onto the spot where Shen Que was meant to sign.

Shen Que had thought that with Sheng Xuanzhu’s death, all his nightmares would end. Now, he realized he had never truly escaped Sheng Xuanzhu’s abyss. He stared blankly at the agreement in his hands, which had no end date.

“Can I go see Grandma now?” Shen Que asked.

Watching Shen Que suck on his finger like a small animal licking its wounds, Sheng Xuanzhu relented. “Tomorrow morning, I’ll send someone to take you to the hospital.”

Shen Que didn’t want to wait any longer. Struggling to his feet, he said, “I can go myself… Mmm.”

Before her feet could touch the ground, a sharp pain shot through her slender waist as she was pulled into the strong arms of the alpha and forced onto the bed.

“Be good. My patience is limited.”
