Kael couldn't breathe.

The woman stood beyond the Throne.

Silver eyes.

Black hair.

The same gentle expression he remembered from childhood.

The same voice.

But the words—

“I am not your mother.”

They echoed through him.

Liora stepped closer.

“Kael…”

He didn't answer.

His eyes remained fixed on the woman.

“Then who are you?”

The woman smiled sadly.

“My name is Elyra.”

Aren immediately stepped forward.

“Elyra…”

She looked at him.

“You remember me.”

Aren's expression hardened.

“I remember what you did.”

Kael turned toward him.

“You know her?”

Aren nodded.

“She was there before we were.”

Liora's eyes narrowed.

“Before us?”

Elyra looked at the three children.

“Before Authority.”

She looked at Kael.

“Before Choice.”

Then at Aren.

“Before Limit.”

The air became impossibly heavy.

Kael's fingers tightened around his sword.

“What are you?”

Elyra didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she looked toward the empty Throne.

“I am the Witness.”

Kael frowned.

“The Witness?”

“The one who watched the first universe begin.”

She paused.

“And watched it die.”

Kael's heart skipped.

“You said you caused my mother's death.”

“I did.”

“Why?”

Elyra looked directly into his eyes.

“Because your mother asked me to.”

Silence.

Kael froze.

“No.”

“She knew what you were becoming.”

“My mother didn't know anything about this.”

“She knew enough.”

Elyra stepped forward.

The Throne behind her began glowing.

Images appeared in the air.

Kael saw a young woman.

Elena.

But she wasn't in Asteria.

She stood beneath an endless black sky.

In front of her were three children.

Kael.

Liora.

Aren.

All three were younger.

Much younger.

Elena was crying.

Young Kael held her hand.

“Don't cry, Mom.”

Elena smiled through her tears.

“I have to go.”

Young Liora stepped forward.

“Where?”

Elena looked at her.

“Somewhere you cannot follow.”

Aren frowned.

“Why?”

Elena knelt.

“Because one day…”

Her eyes moved toward Kael.

“…he will have to choose between becoming everything and remaining himself.”

Young Kael looked confused.

“I'm not going anywhere.”

Elena touched his face.

“I know.”

Then she whispered:

“But someone will make you.”

The vision shattered.

Kael staggered backward.

“That wasn't real.”

“It was.”

“No.”

He looked at Elyra.

“My mother died when I was six.”

Elyra nodded.

“Yes.”

“She was murdered.”

“Yes.”

“By who?”

Elyra's eyes became cold.

“By you.”

Kael stopped moving.

Liora immediately stepped between them.

“Don't.”

Elyra looked at her.

“I am not accusing him.”

“Then explain.”

Elyra sighed.

“Your mother wasn't killed by Kael's hands.”

She pointed toward his chest.

“She was killed by his Authority.”

Kael's heart sank.

A memory surfaced.

His sixth birthday.

His mother holding him.

The house burning.

A strange black light.

Her final words.

Live.

Kael had always believed it was an attack.

Now—

he remembered.

The light had come from him.

His own power had awakened for the first time.

He had been afraid.

His Authority had responded.

Reality had changed.

And Elena had stood between him and the explosion.

She had taken the full cost.

Kael fell to one knee.

“No…”

Liora grabbed his shoulder.

“Kael, look at me.”

He couldn't.

His breathing became uneven.

“I killed her.”

“No.”

“I killed my mother.”

“You were six.”

“I still did it.”

Aren stepped beside him.

“No.”

Kael looked at him.

Aren's eyes were firm.

“You didn't kill her.”

Kael shook his head.

“She died because of me.”

Aren nodded.

“Yes.”

Kael looked confused.

“That doesn't mean you killed her.”

Aren placed a hand on Kael's shoulder.

“You were a child who didn't understand your power.”

He looked toward Elyra.

“She knew exactly what she was doing.”

Elyra lowered her gaze.

“She chose to protect him.”

Kael whispered:

“Why?”

“Because she was your mother.”

The answer hurt more than anything else.

Kael closed his eyes.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then—

the empty Throne began shaking.

BOOM.

A crack appeared across its surface.

Elyra looked upward.

“He's coming.”

Kael stood.

“Who?”

Elyra's face changed.

Fear.

Real fear.

“The one who existed before the First God.”

Aren immediately raised his hand.

“The First God?”

“No.”

Elyra shook her head.

“Even the First God was afraid of him.”

The crack widened.

Liora's silver eyes began glowing.

“What is his name?”

Elyra whispered:

“We never gave him one.”

Kael raised his sword.

“Then I'll give him one.”

Elyra looked at him.

Kael's eyes hardened.

“Enemy.”

The Throne exploded.

BOOOOOOM!

A wave of darkness swept across the universe.

Kael raised his sword.

Aren activated Limit.

Liora activated Choice.

The three powers combined—

and the darkness stopped.

But something walked through it.

A man.

Tall.

Pale.

Completely ordinary.

No armor.

No weapon.

No aura.

Nothing.

He looked like a human.

That frightened Kael more than any monster ever had.

The man looked at the three of them.

Then smiled.

“So…”

His eyes moved toward Kael.

“The Authority has returned.”

Toward Liora.

“The First Choice.”

Then Aren.

“And the Limit.”

He sighed.

“After all this time.”

Kael pointed his sword at him.

“Who are you?”

The man smiled.

“I told you.”

“I have no name.”

Kael narrowed his eyes.

“Then why are you here?”

The man's smile disappeared.

“To correct a mistake.”

“What mistake?”

He looked at Liora.

“Her.”

Liora stepped forward.

“What about me?”

“You were never supposed to exist.”

Kael moved instantly.

His sword crossed the distance between them.

CLANG!

The stranger blocked it with one finger.

Kael's eyes widened.

The man pushed.

Kael flew backward.

He crossed several universes before stopping.

Liora and Aren stared.

Kael slowly stood.

His sword was cracked.

Not broken.

Cracked.

For the first time since awakening Absolute Authority—

someone had physically damaged his weapon without using Authority.

Kael smiled.

“Interesting.”

The man tilted his head.

“You're enjoying this?”

“Finally.”

Kael raised his sword.

“Someone I can't understand.”

The man smiled.

“That's because you're looking at me incorrectly.”

Kael frowned.

“I am not your enemy.”

The man extended his hand.

The universe behind Kael disappeared.

Not destroyed.

Not erased.

Simply—

removed from the equation.

Kael's eyes widened.

The man spoke softly.

“I am the one who decides whether a possibility is allowed to become real.”

Liora's silver eyes flashed.

“That's my power.”

“No.”

The man looked at her.

“Your power is choosing.”

He looked at himself.

“Mine is deciding whether your choice matters.”

Aren stepped forward.

“Then you're…”

The man smiled.

“Permission.”

Silence.

Kael understood.

Authority.

Choice.

Limit.

And now—

Permission.

A fourth principle.

One that could decide whether the other three were allowed to exist.

Kael looked at Aren.

“You said there were three.”

“There were.”

Liora stared at the stranger.

“Then where did he come from?”

The man smiled.

“I didn't come from anywhere.”

He looked toward the Throne.

“I was always here.”

Then he pointed toward Kael.

“You three were created.”

Kael froze.

“Created?”

“Yes.”

“By whom?”

The man looked at Elyra.

She closed her eyes.

Kael's expression changed.

“Elyra.”

She whispered:

“I was there.”

The man continued.

“You were not the beginning.”

Kael's grip tightened.

“You were the first experiment.”

Liora's eyes widened.

Aren's face went pale.

The man spoke one final sentence.

“And your mother…”

He looked directly at Kael.

“…was the one who created you.”

Kael stopped breathing.

The world disappeared around him.

His sword slipped slightly from his hand.

“That's impossible.”

The man smiled.

“Then ask Elena.”

Kael looked toward Elyra.

“Where is my mother?”

Elyra didn't answer.

Kael stepped forward.

“Where is Elena?”

Still silence.

His voice became louder.

“WHERE IS MY MOTHER?”

The universe trembled.

Absolute Authority erupted from him.

But before it could spread—

Aren grabbed his wrist.

“Kael.”

Kael turned.

Aren shook his head.

“Don't.”

Kael's eyes burned.

“I need to know.”

“I know.”

“Then let me go.”

“No.”

Kael stared at his brother.

Aren tightened his grip.

“Because this is exactly what they want.”

Kael froze.

Aren looked toward the nameless man.

“He wants you angry.”

The man's smile disappeared.

Aren continued.

“He wants you to use Absolute Authority.”

Liora stepped beside them.

“And if Kael does?”

Aren looked at the stranger.

“He gets what he came for.”

Kael's expression hardened.

“What?”

The stranger finally smiled again.

“Your heart.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

“My heart?”

The man nodded.

“Not the physical one.”

He pointed toward Kael's chest.

“The thing your mother separated from your Authority.”

Silence.

Elyra whispered:

“Kael…”

The stranger opened his hand.

“Give me your heart.”

The universe began collapsing around them.

“And I will return your mother.”

Kael stared at him.

Liora grabbed his hand.

“Don't.”

Aren stood on his other side.

“Remember our promise.”

Kael looked at them.

Three people.

One family.

One impossible choice.

Then—

from somewhere beyond the collapsing universe—

a woman's voice whispered:

“Kael…”

His eyes widened.

He knew that voice.

His mother's voice.

“Don't save me.”

Kael's face went completely still.

Then Elena spoke again.

“Save yourself.”

The stranger's smile vanished.

And for the first time—

Permission looked afraid.
