Gu Qingze hadn’t been all that interested in the person at first, but after what the doctor said, he found himself wanting to see what the man looked like.
Driver Chen had handled everything outside, so Gu Qingze hadn’t looked closely at the newcomer’s appearance yet.
The moment he stepped inside, however, his gaze locked onto a pair of pale violet eyes. Those eyes were filled with helplessness and panic, causing Gu Qingze’s footsteps to instinctively lighten.
Blue hair and purple eyes—they didn’t look dyed at all. Such striking features truly made him look entirely out of place here.
Despite these unusual colors, the man sitting on the bed did not lose his natural appeal; instead, they lent him an even greater sense of ethereal, delicate beauty.
On the surface, Gu Qingze walked over with absolute indifference, but inwardly, his mind was already racing through the plot of some cheesy web novel.
Nobody knew that the ruthless Gu Qingze—the largest shareholder of the Gu Group and the most feared man in Yuncheng—secretly loved reading novels. He loved all kinds of web fiction, especially melodramatic ones.
Of course, he wasn’t a fan of CEO romance tropes because reading them always made him cringe so hard he felt like digging a magical castle out with his toes.
“How are you feeling?” Gu Qingze walked up to the bed, pulled over a nearby chair, and sat down. As he spoke, his gaze swept toward the doctor standing off to the side.
The doctor replied in a detached tone, “This gentleman will be fine now that he has woken up. He just needs a few days of quiet recovery here at the hospital.”
Hearing this, Gu Qingze nodded and raised a hand to signal the medical staff to leave.
The person on the bed had wrapped himself tightly in the blanket, leaving only his head exposed, yet the panic in his eyes remained impossible to hide.
Realizing that only he and this bug were left in the room, the man felt even more at a loss.
Seeing the man on the bed practically trying to shrink his head inside the blanket, Gu Qingze gave a light cough.
To his surprise, the blanket-bundle actually shivered at those two coughs.
Gu Qingze: “…”
Never mind. His charm was apparently so overwhelming that people could be frightened of him simply through a blanket. His fault entirely.
Gu Qingze softened his voice, trying his best to sound gentle.
“Hello. I found you passed out on my private driveway tonight, so I had you brought here. How are you feeling now? Where are your parents?”
That last sentence was the main point—Gu Qingze wanted to send him back.
“No, no… Who, who are you?”
Gu Qingze raised an eyebrow slightly. The man had a rather pleasant voice, but why was he so terrified of him? He figured he looked quite upright and respectable.
“I am Gu Qingze, CEO of the Gu Group.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Qingze noticed a look of sheer confusion flash across the man’s eyes.
The CEO smiled. See? Even when I tell him my identity, he has no idea who I am. Wait, why doesn’t he know?
In Yuncheng, whose reputation was bigger than his? But Gu Qingze quickly stopped stressing over it—after all, he was a low-key, behind-the-scenes president.
Yes, that must be it.
“Name, Gu Qingze… I, then who am I?”
As soon as those words left the man’s lips, Gu Qingze’s usually calm and composed expression cracked slightly.
Amnesia? He actually managed to run into a cliché plot like that?
Quiet, the CEO is thinking.
With an expressionless face, Gu Qingze pressed the call button. Moments later, two doctors and several nurses rushed into the room.
The moment the man on the bed saw so many people coming in, he immediately wrapped himself back up in the blanket. Gu Qingze stood up, pointed at the person on the bed, and said with an indifferent tone:
“Check his head and see if he’s suffering from amnesia.”
At his command, the medical staff immediately sprang into action, but before they could even begin, they hit a snag.
“Mr. Gu, this gentleman refuses to come out and cooperate with the examination.”
Seeing this, Gu Qingze stepped forward and gave the blanket a pull, but it didn’t budge. He stood in place for a moment in thought, then instructed, “Doctor Liu, stay. Everyone else, step outside.”
“Don’t you want to know who you are? Won’t you come out?” His tone was as gentle as a spring breeze.
Gu Qingze swore that this was the first time in his life he had ever been this gentle with anyone.
The blanket stirred. First, a hand wrapped in gauze reached out from inside, its fingertips cautiously grabbing a corner of Gu Qingze’s jacket.
Gu Qingze looked down without stopping him, wanting to see what this person was planning to do.
With his jacket hem carefully clutched—as if the man had confirmed that the outside environment was finally safe—he slowly poked his head out. When he lifted his gaze, his eyes locked with Gu Qingze’s.
Gu Qingze held his gaze for a moment and let out a soft chuckle. “What? Not scared of me anymore?”
Hearing this, the blue-haired man lightly pressed his lips together and shook his head. “Not scared of you.” He remembered that this man had saved him.
Gu Qingze frowned slightly. Is his brain broken? No, I still need to get it checked.
“Doctor Liu, examine him.”
Doctor Liu directly unlocked a small side door inside the room, revealing a variety of medical equipment. It was a setup specifically installed in this room—the standard luxury treatment of a VIP ward.
Seeing this, Gu Qingze softened his voice further: “Will you go run a checkup for me, please?”
The blue-haired man hesitated for a second, then nodded, obediently following Gu Qingze toward the equipment.
As for why he was following Gu Qingze so closely? Well, because his clothes were still clutched tightly in the man’s fist, held so securely that he couldn’t pull away.
Watching the man undergo an MRI scan, Gu Qingze looked down at his wrinkled jacket and fell into a brief silence.
The outfit he used to look his absolute best…
Was ruined.
It was the only one of its kind in the entire world, and the designer had already passed away.
Silence is Cambridge tonight.
Suddenly, Cambridge emitted an alarm inside the room.
“Beep—beep beep—”
The indoor lights began to flicker erratically, turning on and off. The operating MRI machine started giving off a suspicious red glow, and with a sudden buzz, it died!
“Bang!” Another loud crash echoed.
Gu Qingze swept his gaze over and fell silent.
That massive piece of equipment had cracked, fractures spreading outward from the rim of the cylinder.
Gu Qingze felt like he was about to crack open, too.
Just what kind of creature did he pick up and bring home?
The blue-haired man crawled out from the machine, his face pale and lingering terror evident in his eyes. His gaze drifted, and the moment he spotted Gu Qingze, he rushed straight toward him. However, before he even reached him, he felt his strength give out completely, his vision darkened, and he collapsed straight down toward the floor in front of Gu Qingze.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Gu Qingze stepped forward and caught him.
The flickering lights in the room went out entirely the exact second the blue-haired man fainted.
The room plunged into absolute silence.
In the pitch blackness, Gu Qingze and Doctor Liu stared at each other in the faint light, each reading the exact same word in the other’s eyes: What the hell?
At that point, Gu Qingze was entirely certain: he had brought home an absolute monster of a problem!
Gu Qingze rubbed the bridge of his nose, sorted through the chaotic thoughts in his head, and scooped the man up horizontally in his arms, carrying him outside.
After placing the man back on the bed, he spoke to Doctor Liu in a deep voice, “Skip the scan for now. I’ll have a few specialists brought in to examine him later. For now, just treat his external injuries.”
Gu Qingze sat on a nearby chair, quietly watching the person on the bed. The inner glint of a capitalist began to flicker in his eyes—those expensive machines were all money! He was going to have to work to pay that back.
However, that capitalist glimmer had barely lasted through the night when, the next morning, the man dealt him a head-on critical blow as soon as he woke up.
“The Lord…”
Before he could even finish the sentence, the man suddenly sprang up from the bed, dropped straight to his knees on the floor, and knelt before him with a speed that left Gu Qingze completely stunned, unable to react in time.
“I am sorry, my Lord.”
