Shao Wenxing was shocked, freezing for two seconds. “Carry you? Young master here has never even carried his own mother!”
Hearing this, Sang Li looked a little sad. After hesitating for a moment, he said in a reluctant, quiet voice, “Then… then I can be your grandma, too. Just think of it as helping an elderly person.”
Shao Wenxing: “…”
If anyone else had said this in any other setting, he probably would have lost his temper right on the spot.
However, Sang Li looked far too aggrieved and pitiful.
Even beneath the harsh, mercilessly pale fluorescent lights of the vegetable market, as he lifted that breathtakingly delicate face, the fragile specks of light dancing in the depths of his eyes, looking over so earnestly, innocent and harmless.
Yet beneath it all, there was a hidden venom.
Shao Wenxing gave a malicious grin and laughed, “Is this how you seduced my buddy? Does Jiang Xiucheng really fall for this routine of yours?”
Sang Li’s eyes went perfectly round. “Huh?”
“Too bad I don’t buy it. Are you coming or not? If not, I’m leaving.”
Shao Wenxing turned around and took a long stride forward, but he had barely taken a single step when he heard the person behind him burst into a loud wail.
Sang Li’s tears were like a portable, ready-to-use tool. He cried exceptionally prettily, weeping and sniffling as he called out loudly to Shao Wenxing, “But it really, really hurts! My ankle is completely swollen!”
The pumpkin hat on top of his head was gone, and the sunglasses he had been wearing were lost somewhere during his fall earlier.
His delicate face was as white as polished jade, and while the tears hadn’t entirely washed away the dirt on his skin, they only made him look all the more like a dust-covered pearl, shining brightly amidst the noisy market crowd.
More and more curious gazes were cast their way, and Shao Wenxing acutely caught the flash of a camera lens.
Yet Sang Li turned a blind eye to all of it. He was crying so hard he was trembling slightly, looking as though he had suffered the greatest injustice in the world. “Wuwu, wuwu. You’re just bullying me because my husband isn’t around!”
Shao Wenxing: “…”
In all his life, Shao Wenxing had never met someone so fragile, so shameless, and so utterly unreasonable. His forward-moving steps were tethered in place by the crying, until he finally surrendered and rolled back over. “Get on.”
Sang Li sniffled, hiccuping. “You need to go lower. You better squat down.”
“Should I kneel down and present you with a ring while I’m at it?”
Shao Wenxing was beyond annoyed. “Are you getting on or not?!”
Sang Li didn’t dare make any more demands, and like an aggrieved little cat, he crawled up onto his back.
Shao Wenxing had truly never carried anyone before. His sole experience came from romance plots he had seen on film sets while visiting various ex-girlfriends, but once applied to reality, he found they were completely useless.
Moreover, the posture was painfully awkward.
Sang Li’s light, warm breath puffed against the edge of his ear, acting like a tiny brush scratching step by step against his heart.
After walking a few paces, right as their legs crossed through the middle of their pants, Shao Wenxing suddenly came to a halt.
Yet Sang Li lacked all situational awareness. Foolishly draped over his shoulder, he tried hard to wrap his arms around Shao Wenxing’s neck for support, negotiating very cautiously, “Can you hold my leg? I feel like I’m going to fall off.”
“Shut up! Or I’ll throw you down!”
Shao Wenxing’s complexion shifted entirely.
Sang Li: “Oh.”
Sang Li didn’t dare speak anymore.
After a moment, the breathing on his shoulder grew lighter and shallower, and then his left shoulder dipped slightly.
Shao Wenxing instinctively turned his head to look. Yet at that exact moment, his slightly dry lips grazed right across the side of the person’s cheek on his shoulder.
An extremely soft and sweet texture.
Shao Wenxing paused. The very first thought that flashed through his mind was: Thank goodness Sang Li fell asleep.
He won’t know.
It’s all just a misunderstanding.
I am a straight man.
With an unsettled expression, Shao Wenxing’s steps turned chaotic. Outside, the driver pulled open the car door. “Young Master, shall I help you carry him into the car?”
“Never mind, I’ll do it myself.”
Sang Li didn’t wake up. He had been terrified from morning until now, and with a tear-streaked, messed-up little face, he fell into a deep sleep.
Shao Wenxing got into the car and sat beside him. After a moment of thought, he reached out and fastened the seatbelt for him.
The car started moving.
The driver glanced in the rearview mirror. “Young Master, Director Jiang’s bodyguards are following behind us.”
“I know. Jiang Xiucheng said he always travels with bodyguards.”
Shao Wenxing scrolled through his phone, unable to articulate why he felt so restless.
The driver continued, “Oh, right, Young Master, your chief assistant mentioned she saw a post on Douban related to you, and she’s already forwarded it.”
“Related to me?”
Shao Wenxing opened the link sent by his assistant.
It was a brand-new Douban post.

1L: To save you the read, a certain new Little Sweet Potato streamer yesterday suspectedly couldn’t help showing off bags and shoes while flaunting her husband. The items in the photo are worth nearly six hundred million, almost all rare leather goods. Afterward, she got brutally mocked and triggered in the comments, claiming she isn’t a spoiled trophy wife relying on her husband and that she’ll go buy groceries to prove herself.
2L: What new meme is buying groceries to prove yourself?
3L: Replying to Brother Two, it’s not a new meme. It’s just the normal thought process of the trophy wife community.
4L: Lmao, my four-year-old son can buy groceries too.

72L: Though I say that, didn’t Shao Wenxing’s exes all use to be female celebrities? I remember he was straight.
73L: Such a pretty streamer living the good life, if it were me I’d take it too!
The driver asked, “Young Master, the traffic isn’t exceptionally high just yet. Does the assistant’s side mean we should delete the post in time?”
Shao Wenxing didn’t answer.
The person sleeping beside him seemed deeply uncomfortable under the constraint of the seatbelt. Like a thin little worm, he wriggled and squirmed his way out, tilting his body so that his entire weight collapsed onto Shao Wenxing’s lap. Finding a spot right in the middle, he rested his head against it with complete satisfaction.
“…”
Shao Wenxing looked at his phone screen. “Forget it, whatever. Just leave it be.”
“Understood.”
Jiang Xiucheng’s phone call came in right at that moment. “Ah-Wen?”
“Xiucheng.”
Jiang Xiucheng asked, “Did you pick up Lili? I couldn’t get through on his phone.”
Shao Wenxing lowered his gaze to look down. “Picked him up. Made quite a mess of himself, I put him in the back seat and he’s asleep.”
“Cover him with a thin blanket. All-cashmere, he’s allergic to other materials.”
Jiang Xiucheng seemed to let out a sigh of relief, a hint of a smile in his tone. “Ah-Wen, you’re always the one whose work puts my mind most at ease.”
Shao Wenxing averted his gaze, the greenery outside the window flashing past in a blur.
He spoke up, “Yeah. After all, I’m purely straight, so I’ve really got no interest in his type.”
