Wu Menglong forced a bitter smile.

“Aunt, please don’t be angry.”

The man who saved Wu Xueyao is the same one who came to my company to collect a debt today.”

“I don’t want to hear your excuses.

What is he, invincible?”

“Not invincible, no.

But I heard from Ah Fang that he’s some kind of master at the Transform Force Stage.”

The woman on the other end of the line was clearly taken aback.

Her tone grew much more solemn.

“No wonder.

What’s his name?

Do you know?”

“His name is Lin Yu.

He’s from Dingsheng Group.”

“Lin Yu…

I see.

You’re off the hook for grabbing Wu Xueyao.

Call your men back.”

In the alley, Lin Yu glanced at the square-faced man and his crew before walking over to Wu Xueyao.

“Let’s go.”

Wu Xueyao nodded emphatically, a new sparkle in her eyes as she gazed at Lin Yu.

As they walked, Lin Yu found himself curiously studying Wu Xueyao.

“What are you looking at?

Do I have something growing on my head?” Wu Xueyao said, flushing, feeling uncomfortable under his gaze.

“You have a whole green prairie on your head,” Lin Yu said with a laugh.

Wu Xueyao shot him a glare.

“Tch!

You scumbag.

Thinking about cheating on me already?”

Lin Yu was speechless.

“You’re really buying into this whole ‘us as a couple’ thing, aren’t you?

I was just acting for my sister’s sake.”

Wu Xueyao’s temper flared.

She gritted her teeth and snapped, “What, am *I* not good enough for you?

I hope a clueless blockhead like you stays single forever!”

Lin Yu chuckled.

“And I wonder who was the one who announced she was my girlfriend in front of Dong Liya and Xie Mingcheng.”

“You!

I hate you!” Wu Xueyao felt like she was going to die from anger at this clueless man.

Seeing that she was genuinely angry, Lin Yu cleared his throat.

“What’s the deal between you and Wu Menglong?

And who’s the mastermind behind your kidnapping?”

Wu Xueyao looked down, her lips pressed into a thin line.

“I have nothing to do with him…”

“By the way, how do you know Wu Menglong?”

Since Wu Xueyao clearly didn’t want to talk about it, Lin Yu decided not to press the issue.

“I went to the Wu Corporation to collect a debt today.

They owe our Dingsheng Group over ten million.”

“Did you get the money?”

“You bet I did.

If he hadn’t paid up, I would’ve smashed his head in.”

“Hmph.

You’re so full of yourself.”

Wu Xueyao was left speechless.

‘Are all men this cocky?’

After a moment, she said worriedly, “Wu Menglong may only be from a branch of the Wu family, but he has powerful backing.”

“It’s best if you don’t get on his bad side.”

Lin Yu nodded.

“Didn’t you just say you didn’t know him?”

Wu Xueyao huffed and shot him a look that clearly said, ‘I’m ignoring you now.’

He Xiaoqi was anxiously waiting for Lin Yu to get back, terrified he wouldn’t be able to find Wu Xueyao.

But when she heard the sound of the two of them bickering outside the door, a smile finally spread across her face.

“Brother, Sister-in-law, you’re back!”

“Xiaoqi, I’m sorry for making you worry.” Once inside, Wu Xueyao rushed to take He Xiaoqi’s hand, her heart aching at the sight of the younger girl’s tear-streaked face.

“I’m so sorry.”

“Sister-in-law, as long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters.

I was so worried my brother wouldn’t find you,” He Xiaoqi said, a smile breaking through her tears.

“You two catch up.

I’m heading out for a bit.” With that, Lin Yu left the house.

‘After what happened today, they definitely can’t stay here anymore.’

He decided to go buy a new apartment.

Jingdu Huacheng was a high-end residential complex in Guyang City.

Its residents were all either rich or influential.

As he stepped into the sales office, a saleswoman approached him.

But when she saw his very ordinary clothes, her attitude became cold and dismissive.

“Sir, are you looking to buy or to rent?”

“We don’t offer rentals here.”

“Besides, our properties are very expensive.

The cheapest ones start at one and a half million.”

Her attitude annoyed Lin Yu.

“And if I said I’m here to buy,” he asked coolly, “would you believe me?”

The saleswoman gave a mocking smile.

“With your salary, sir, I’m afraid you’d have to work for a few hundred years to afford a place here.”

“So unprofessional,” Lin Yu muttered, ignoring the saleswoman and turning his attention to the architectural model of the complex.

“Hey!

What’s your problem?

If you can’t afford it, don’t stand around wasting our time,” the saleswoman said sharply.

Just then, another, sweeter-looking saleswoman came over.

She approached Lin Yu and asked politely, “Sir, what kind of floor plan are you interested in?”

Seeing Zhuang Xuan being so attentive to Lin Yu, the first saleswoman snorted in contempt and made a sarcastic remark.

“Fresh college grads.

So naive.

Can’t even read people.”

Zhuang Xuan frowned.

“Sister Yang, you shouldn’t say that.

Everyone who comes into the sales office is a potential client.”

“Hmph.

Well, you go right ahead and serve your ‘client’ then.”

“Sir, I’m so sorry about that,” Zhuang Xuan said apologetically once the other woman had walked away.

“It’s fine.

I’m looking for a unit with good natural light, good ventilation, on a lower floor.

Preferably one that’s move-in ready.”

“What about this unit on the third floor?

It’s not too high up, has great ventilation and light, and it’s move-in ready,” Zhuang Xuan explained patiently.

“Fine.

I’ll take it,” Lin Yu said with a nod.

Zhuang Xuan immediately went to prepare the contract and brought it over to Lin Yu once it was ready.

“Sir, will you be paying in full or financing?”

Lin Yu glanced at the purchase price—four million—and took out his bank card without a second thought.

Yang Li, who had been watching, sneered.

‘There’s probably no money on that card.

Just keep up the act.’

But to her astonishment, she watched as Lin Yu swiped the card and transferred the full four million to the company’s account.

She was utterly dumbfounded.

“He…

he really bought it?” An overwhelming wave of regret washed over her.

A four-million-dollar property, and he’d bought it without a moment’s hesitation.

‘The commission alone would have been a huge amount.’

After buying the apartment, Lin Yu went straight home, packed their things, and brought his sister and Wu Xueyao to the new residential complex.

“Brother, this apartment is huge!

The rent must be so expensive, right?

Where did you get all this money?” He Xiaoqi exclaimed as Wu Xueyao pushed her in her wheelchair for a tour around the room.

She was ecstatic.

They were finally living in a big, new home.

“Xiaoqi, this is our new home now.

I just borrowed the money for rent from a colleague for the time being.”

Seeing his sister so happy made him smile, too.

Wu Xueyao leaned in and whispered to Lin Yu, “The rent for a place like this must be at least seven or eight thousand a month, right?”

Lin Yu just smiled.

“It doesn’t matter.

As long as my sister is happy, that’s all that counts.”

“You’re so good to Xiaoqi,” Wu Xueyao said, a hint of envy in her voice.

After dinner, the three of them retired to their separate rooms to rest.

The next day at work was uneventful.

Just as Lin Yu was about to leave after his shift, Chen Luo stopped him.

“It’s Manager Lu’s birthday today.

Nobody leave after work; we’re all going to his birthday party.”

“And I assume you all knew about this ahead of time?

You’ve got your gifts ready, right?

We can’t let Group Six be outdone by the other teams.”
