At the hospital entrance
“What’s going on?”
“No idea. She’s been standing up there and won’t come down no matter how much people call her.”
“Has anyone called the police?”
“Yes, someone already did.”
“Oh my, it’s so high, that’s terrifying.”
“Exactly, what could make her want to do this?”
As soon as Yun Shu arrived on the first floor, she saw a crowd gathered outside, pointing at the rooftop and talking all at once.
She walked out the main door and looked up. A woman in a white dress was standing on the edge of the rooftop railing. The wind blew her hair and skirt, making her look like she could fall at any moment.
Yun Shu was startled. Was someone trying to jump?
Not long after, the sound of fire trucks and ambulances came from the hospital entrance. The crowd quickly moved aside to let them in.
“Meow~ Master, what’s happening?”
“I don’t know. It seems like someone can’t take it anymore and wants to jump.”
“Oh dear, that’s so dangerous.”
“I heard this girl…” someone nearby began explaining what had happened.
Yun Shu held the system in her arms and moved through the crowd to the building opposite.
Firefighters were methodically setting up a safety air cushion below. Yun Shu took the elevator straight to the top floor, where several people were already trying to persuade the woman.
The police and firefighters didn’t dare get too close. Every time they stepped forward, the woman moved another step outward.
“Miss, if there’s anything, let’s talk downstairs,” a police officer said gently.
“Yes, miss, think about your parents. You’re still young. Whatever the problem is, come down and we’ll help you solve it.”
The woman kept shaking her head, her eyes empty, unmoved by their words.
The atmosphere grew tense. No one dared approach recklessly—if they angered her, she might let go and jump.
The woman took another step outward. Everyone present felt their hearts leap into their throats.
Below, the firefighters adjusted the position of the air cushion as she moved.
Suddenly, her foot slipped. Her body swayed, and the crowd below gasped. Fortunately, she quickly regained her balance.
Yun Shu stood at the doorway holding the system. A police officer saw her and quickly told her to go downstairs—it was too dangerous.
“Officer, I can save that sister,” Yun Shu said firmly. The officer froze for a moment.
“Can you let me try to talk to her?”
The officer thought for a moment. “Alright, but don’t get too close. Make sure you stay safe.”
Yun Shu nodded with a smile.
Holding the system, she slowly walked forward and stopped just before getting too close.
She looked at the woman. Her face was pale, streaked with tears, her body thin and frail. Despite her gauntness, it was clear she had once been very beautiful.
Her eyes were filled with sorrow, as if she were longing for someone.
Her hair was messy from the wind, and her white dress was wrinkled.
“Sister,” Yun Shu called softly.
At the word “sister,” the woman immediately turned to look at her. She stared quietly, then slowly smiled.
“Zhaozhao… is that you? Did you come to see your sister?”
“Yes, sister, I came to see you. Let’s go home, okay?”
“No, I’m not going back. Everyone there—they’re all devils. They caused Zhaozhao’s death. I don’t want to see them.”
“Alright, alright, we won’t go back there. Let’s go to our own home, okay?”
“Our own home?”
“Yes. Don’t you remember? You bought a high-rise apartment by the river. You said that would be our home.”
“Hehe… that’s right, we have our own home.”
“Sister, come on, give me your hand. I’ll take you home, okay?”
The woman looked at Yun Shu’s outstretched hand and slowly stepped forward, reaching out her own hand—then suddenly pulled it back.
“No… you’re not Zhaozhao. Zhaozhao is already dead.”
“Sister, I’m not dead. I’m still alive, don’t you remember?”
“Look, this is a kitten I picked up. Isn’t it cute?”
Yun Shu lifted the system in her hands. The woman’s gaze fell on the fluffy, round, white kitten.
“Meow~ meow~ meow~” the system cooperated, letting out soft sounds.
A faint smile appeared on the woman’s face. She shifted her gaze back to Yun Shu.
“It really is you, Zhaozhao? Hehe… hehe…”
The woman was no longer in her right mind, giggling as her body trembled.
“Yes, sister, it’s really me. Give me your hand, okay?”
Yun Shu reached out again. This time, the woman slowly extended her hand and placed it in Yun Shu’s.
The police and firefighters nearby held their breath, not daring to make a sound.
Yun Shu grasped her hand and signaled to the firefighters not far away. They rushed forward and quickly pulled the woman back from the railing.
“Let go of me! Let go!” the woman struggled violently on the ground.
“Doctor, quickly, give her a sedative!” a police officer shouted.
The woman was pinned down by firefighters, still thrashing and screaming.
A doctor in a white coat ran over with a syringe and injected a sedative into her arm.
Gradually, she stopped struggling. Her eyes grew unfocused as the firefighters lifted her up and carried her toward the elevator.
Yun Shu stood quietly to the side, watching, her thoughts unclear.
After the woman was taken away, the leading officer walked up to her and saluted.
“Miss, thank you for today. Thank you for your bravery in helping us save a life.”
Yun Shu looked at the officer, who appeared to be in his thirties or forties, and smiled. “No need to thank me. Saving people is what we should do. I heard about her situation downstairs, so I came up pretending to be her younger sister, hoping it might help. I didn’t expect it actually would.”
“I didn’t expect you to be so clever and brave,” the officer said, glancing at her hospital gown.
“You’re hospitalized here?”
“Yes, officer, I’m a patient here.”
Seeing her frail body and pale lips, the officer said, “Come on, let’s go downstairs. It’s windy and cold here.”
“Ding, favorability +1”
“…+1”
Yun Shu’s mind kept ringing with notifications, making her head ache.
She lifted the system closer and whispered, “System, can you turn this sound off? The constant dinging is giving me a headache.”
“Meow~ Yes, Master.”
After that, the notifications stopped, and her world became quiet again.
On the way downstairs, Yun Shu asked a doctor which ward the woman who tried to jump was in.
The doctor told her: Neurology Department, 5th floor, Room 108.
