“Damn it! Who was it? Get out here! How dare you hit me—I’ll make sure you regret it! Don’t you know who Brother Qiang is?”

The man calling himself Brother Qiang swayed as he stood, still cursing loudly. Everyone around wore complicated expressions.

Shi Muchuan ignored the shouting man and continued emergency treatment while calling Yun Shu’s name, but the girl lying on the ground showed no response at all.

One of Brother Qiang’s lackeys quickly came over to support him. “Brother Qiang, it was that pretty boy who hit you,” he said, pointing at Shi Muchuan.

Shi Muchuan was completely focused on saving Yun Shu. Suddenly, someone grabbed him by the collar and pulled him up.

He shot a sharp glance over—his gaze like a blade.

Brother Qiang shuddered under that look and instinctively let go of his collar.

“What are you doing? What are you doing?” Qin Kai rushed over and blocked Brother Qiang.

Shi Muchuan immediately crouched down again, picked Yun Shu up in one swift motion, and headed toward the door.

At that moment, the ambulance and police car arrived outside the restaurant at the same time. Doctors stepped out of the ambulance carrying a stretcher.

Shi Muchuan walked past them and directly carried Yun Shu into the ambulance.

Seeing this, the doctors quickly loaded the stretcher and got into the vehicle as well.

They immediately put an oxygen mask on Yun Shu. The ambulance sped off like the wind—sirens blaring, police clearing the way as they rushed to the hospital.

Inside the ambulance, the doctors worked against time to save her.

Shi Muchuan looked at Yun Shu, who showed no response, his eyes filled with worry and urgency.

He kept calling her name softly, as if trying to wake her through sheer will.

His heart felt tightly clenched the entire way, images of her before the incident flashing repeatedly in his mind.

Soon, the ambulance arrived at the hospital.

Yun Shu was rushed straight into the emergency room.

Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Machines beeped continuously.

On the bed, Yun Shu’s face was as pale as paper, her lips completely colorless.

Shi Muchuan quickly and calmly gave instructions: “Prepare the defibrillator—200 joules.”

The nurses moved swiftly. One pushed the defibrillator to the bedside, while another applied conductive gel to the paddles.

The paddles were placed on Yun Shu’s chest.

Thump!

The monitor line showed slight movement.

“Continue.”

Thump!

“Epinephrine, 1 milligram, intravenous injection!” Shi Muchuan said, his brows tightly furrowed, his tone urgent yet steady.

A nurse immediately drew the medication and injected it precisely into Yun Shu’s vein.

Another doctor continued chest compressions.

One, two, three…

No one knew how much time passed…

Finally… the waveform on the monitor gradually stabilized.

The doctors and nurses present all let out a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat from their foreheads.

Shi Muchuan looked at the girl on the bed and also exhaled—he had managed to save her again.

After instructing the nurses to transfer Yun Shu to a ward, Shi Muchuan walked out of the emergency room.

Qin Kai was sitting on a bench across the hallway. Seeing him, he quickly stood up.

“How is she? Is the girl okay?”

“She’s fine. We brought her back.”

A police officer in uniform walked over, showed his ID, and said,

“Hello, I’m the captain of the Yunhai City First Traffic Police Brigade. Doctor Shi, we’ll need both of you to come to the station and give a statement.”

“Alright.” Shi Muchuan glanced once toward the emergency room before following the officer.

Shi Muchuan and Qin Kai arrived at the police station. As soon as they sat down in the interrogation room, Brother Qiang and his men were brought in as well.

The moment Brother Qiang saw Shi Muchuan, he jumped up and shouted, “It was him who hit me! Officer, you must punish him severely!”

Shi Muchuan gave him a cold glance and said nothing.

The officer began asking about the incident. Shi Muchuan explained everything in detail.

“That’s nonsense! He’s slandering me. Do you have any evidence?” Brother Qiang leaned back in his chair, acting completely unbothered.

“Evidence? I’ve got plenty,” Qin Kai said, taking out his phone. After a few taps, he played the restaurant’s surveillance footage.

In the video, Brother Qiang’s actions were clearly visible, and his words could be heard distinctly.

Watching the footage, especially Yun Shu’s frightened and desperate expression, Shi Muchuan’s face grew colder and colder. No wonder her heart condition had been triggered.

Even the police officers glanced at him, feeling that his aura was more imposing than theirs.

Once the footage was shown, Brother Qiang and his men’s expressions changed drastically.

He still tried to argue, but the officer said sternly, “The evidence is clear, and you still want to deny it? Not only did you harass her, but you also caused the girl to suffer a cardiac episode. This is serious.”

Hearing this, Brother Qiang lost much of his earlier arrogance, but still maintained a defiant attitude.

Shi Muchuan frowned as he looked at him—this man must have some local influence. Did he have backing?

After finishing the statements and leaving the interrogation room, Shi Muchuan made an extra phone call.

“Hello, help me take care of something…”

After hanging up, Qin Kai looked at Shi Muchuan, whose expression was cold as ice, and cautiously asked:

“Brother Chuan, do you know that girl?”

“She’s my former patient.”

“Just a patient?” Qin Kai clearly didn’t believe it. If she were just a patient, why was he so angry? He had even mobilized resources.

“Then what else?” Shi Muchuan replied casually as he walked toward the roadside.

“Heh, Brother Chuan, I was just asking.” Qin Kai quickly caught up and walked beside him.

“I’m saying, Brother Chuan, how long are you planning to stay in this place?”

Shi Muchuan said nothing. He raised his hand to hail a taxi, got in first, and looked at Qin Kai still standing outside.

“Are you coming or not?”

“Coming, coming…”

The taxi driver asked where they were headed.

Shi Muchuan gave his address, and the car sped off into the night.

Qin Kai sat beside him, secretly observing. Shi Muchuan’s brows were still tightly furrowed, with lingering worry in his eyes.

Unable to hold back, Qin Kai spoke again, “Brother Chuan, is that girl really just an ordinary patient? The way you reacted while saving her—it didn’t look like it.”

Shi Muchuan shot him a glance. “You’re talking too much. When did you become so nosy?”

Qin Kai shrank back and didn’t dare ask further.

Soon, the taxi arrived at Shi Muchuan’s residence.

He paid and got out. Qin Kai followed.

“You staying here tonight?” Shi Muchuan asked.

Qin Kai nodded. “Sure, I’ll keep you company.”

The two entered the house. Shi Muchuan went straight to the study, turned on the computer, and began reviewing Yun Shu’s medical records.

Qin Kai sat on the living room sofa, watching TV while waiting.

After a while, Shi Muchuan came out of the study, sat beside Qin Kai, and fell into deep thought.
