Hearing the commotion inside, Mo Qianhan quickly turned and strode into the inner chamber, with Bai Ruoshui hurrying after him.

Chu Fengge glanced inside, then looked back at the guards behind her.

The Prince's Manor guards, hearing Nanny Zhang's cries, had probably guessed that the Imperial Concubine's condition was dire, and they all knelt on the ground in silent mourning.Full novel: The Prince Regent’s Cast-Off Consort — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Taking advantage of this moment, Chu Fengge conjured her medicine chest out of the Divine Doctor's spatial dimension.

Then, carrying the medicine chest, she walked into the inner chamber as well.

The moment Chu Fengge stepped inside, she heard Imperial Physician Li report to Mo Qianhan: "Your Highness, the Imperial Concubine… has passed away!"

As soon as Physician Li finished speaking, everyone knelt down.

Bai Ruoshui knelt her way over to Consort Qi, grasping her hand, and cried out heartbrokenly: "Auntie, Auntie, open your eyes and look at me. It's Ruoshui. When I came to the manor this morning, weren't you still fine? Why has it come to this? Physician, please save my auntie again—she can still be saved!"

The physician named Li Liang happened to glance at Chu Fengge standing by the corner of the door, and said: "Her Ladyship was perfectly fine before. Today, extreme rage attacked her heart, causing her illness to strike with such violence that no medicine could cure her."

Mo Qianhan whipped his head around and glared coldly at Chu Fengge: "Who allowed you to come in? Get out!"

"I can bring the Imperial Concubine back."

Chu Fengge knew very well that if Consort Qi died at this moment, her own days in the Prince Regent's Manor would only become harder.

Someone in the room was eager to find a scapegoat.

"If you were afraid I'd kill Consort Qi with my treatment before, could things possibly be any worse than now? Why not let me try?"

"Get out. I don't want to see you."

Mo Qianhan didn't trust her at all—he even found her so repulsive that her mere presence in this room defiled the courtyard where Consort Qi lived.

But Chu Fengge did not back down. Staying here today meant death, and stepping out meant death too. She would rather be run through by Mo Qianhan's sword right here than die a pointless death.

"The physician has declared that Consort Qi has passed away, yet I promise Your Highness that I can bring her back. But because of your prejudice against me, you would rather believe the Imperial Concubine is dead than give Consort Qi another chance at life. Then the one who killed her is no one else—it is you, Your Highness."

Chu Fengge confronted him without a trace of fear.

Mo Qianhan swiftly raised his hand, about to seize Chu Fengge by the throat.

Yet Chu Fengge neither dodged nor evaded—she even tilted her head up slightly, revealing her neck, still marked with scars.

Seeing Chu Fengge act this way, Mo Qianhan's hand froze.

He held himself back, again and again, before he finally refrained from strangling her.

"Fine. Since you're seeking death, I'll give you a chance. If you can bring the Imperial Concubine back from the dead, there will be a place for you in this Prince Regent's Manor from now on. But if she does not wake, you will bear the crime of murdering the Imperial Concubine. Even if I beat you to death with a rod, no one in the world will say I was wrong."

As his words fell, Mo Qianhan flung his sleeve fiercely, turned, and sat down on the soft couch, ordering: "Nanny Zhang, clear out all the idle people. Make a space for Chu Fengge."

"Your Highness, Auntie suffered greatly when she passed. Ruoshui doesn't want anyone else to disturb Auntie's body. Your Highness," Bai Ruoshui said in a soft, delicate voice.

"Ruoshui, step back first. Someone, help the Cousin up."

Hongling hurried forward, shooting Bai Ruoshui a meaningful look.

That gaze was telling Bai Ruoshui: just let her try. If she fails to save Consort Qi, the Prince will have every justification to kill her—and in the future, won't the position of Princess Consort of the Regent fall right into the Cousin's lap?

Recalling what Mo Qianhan had just said, Bai Ruoshui said nothing more.

As for the Imperial Physicians standing nearby, they all felt the Princess Consort of the Regent was overestimating herself.

Li Liang in particular had never taken Chu Fengge seriously at all.

To him, Chu Fengge was nothing but a fool—arrogant after learning medicine for a mere year.

She could just wait to be buried alongside Consort Qi!
