CH 6: Irresistible seductiveness

THE PUREBLOOD'S HEARTBEAT

After Lynette Carter and Lila Quinn parted ways at the entrance of the bar. Both women staggered in a drunken stupor, leaning on each other moment earlier, yet somehow still retaining a sliver of awareness.

Lila Quinn headed back to the hotel she was currently staying in. But not before sharing her address and urging Lynette to call her if anything at all happened.

Lynette did not return to her family house at Mapleline Residence, considering her drunken state. She knew, that going back home now in this state would only burden her family with needless worries.

She returned to her small apartment at Brighton Street.

Dizzy, so dizzy…

Shaking her head, Lynette wobbled through the doorway of her apartment, her blurred vision forcing her to rely solely on instincts and the familiar layout to find her way to the bedroom.

Upon reaching her room, she collapsed onto the bed and slipped into a profound sleep, embracing it like a long-awaited salvation.

…

Early in the morning, bright and beautiful sunlight shone into the room through the gap from the white curtains, casting a divine and peaceful halo over the interior of the room and onto the lady on the bed.

Birdsong floated through the window; soft, melodious and bright, as if the little creatures were announcing dawn itself with a cheerful, ‘Arise and shine, everyone. ’

On the bed, the girl's brow tightened in discomfort, her expression twisted as though she were trapped in a terrifying nightmare.

Her hair spilled over her shoulder like a soft veil, adding a quiet, irresistible seductiveness to the way she slept.

With a painful moan, Lynette's long eyelashes fluttered softly before she slowly opened her eyes.

What followed was…

“ Hissss” damn!

A vicious throbbing headache hammered her skull like a broken drum.

The hangover was killing her.

Whoever claimed alcohol was ‘fun’ clearly wanted others to suffer.

If she ever met such a person, she would kowtow to him… and then give him a piece of her mind.

“ Shit! it hurts like hell

Her head was pounding like a disco hall. “ She would never go near anything alcoholic again. Never.”

Lynette stared at the ceiling, while pressing her fingers to her temple, to try soothe the throbbing pain.

Instinctively, out of habit, she picked up her phone scrolling through her call log. She tapped Alex's number, about to call him but then she paused, coming to terms with the fact that they had broken up.

Lynette clenched her fists tightly, nails almost sinking into her flesh, when she remembered his betrayal last night and how she will wake at the first light of dawn, always longing to be the first to hear from him .

Hahhh…

It still hurts

She had thought it wouldn't hurt anymore… but it still did. It still lingered, gnawing at her heart.

Staring at her phone, Lynette's gaze lingered on Alex's contact details. Uncertainty flickered through her eyes, before resolutely blacklisting him every where, cutting him off her life for good.

Lynette's heart sank as she recognized the truth: throughout their two-years relationship, she had always been the one to push it forward, to mend it, and to keep it going.

“ Hahh… I guess, I was foolish and naive indeed.”
